  1. Le Bateau Ivre is a romantic, tiny and cozy wine bar in East Midtown. Authentically French with exceptionally warm service.

Come for the atmosphere, fantastic wine and French Onion Soup.

  2. Great little wine bar next to my hotel. Very small venue but apparently popular as my dinner Wednesday early evening was packed. I had a cheeseburger and fries $18 and a couple glasses of red which set me back $48 but it was worth it. Wine was really good. Service was solid and I would return.

  3. Had a wonderful late night dinner here. It was a cool summer night in NY to sit out and bask in the whispering breeze with a nice bottle of wine.

It was my first time ever having escargot, and it was really wonderful. Like a meaty mushroom. And it was soaked in oil, garlic and herb, which was so good that we were dipping our bread and fries in it.

Along with the charcuterie platter, it was so blissful to sit, chat and eat leisurely. Vibrations were on point.

Also the service here was so polite and friendly, which really put this experience over the top. When things come together like this – food, service, vibes – not only does it make me feel really happy, but it also make say, yes, let's go for dessert. Let's get that 10 year port. Please recommend a desert wine.

And when the check comes, the price doesn't matter because the experience trumps it.

They have the winning combination here. I'm very, very impressed.

  4. T. and I had lunch by the window at 'Le bateau ivre'. The latter means 'The drunken ship' in French.

We were promptly seated. The service was friendly and efficient.

The decor had a French bistro feel. The restaurant and restrooms were clean.
    The noise level was fine.

The steak frites and the bass dish were good. The size portion was fair.
Our favorite place to enjoy a steak frites in a casual French bistro setting is 'Cafe d'Alsace' on the Upper East Side. We love their affordable pre-fix menu.

  5. Came back one year later and another great evening! This restaurant does not dissapoint. 5 stars across the board. Great service, drinks and food!!! I am in love with the Escargot!

  6. We came here for brunch with friends on the weekend.  Please note, reservations are definitely recommended.  This is a "sit for awhile and chat with friends, and have a dessert coffee after dinner" type of restaurant, so tables were not changing fast at all.  It is a fairly small space too, best for small groups.

The food was alright – I ordered a croque madame.  It was ok – a little burnt on the bottom corners, and wasn't piping hot, so it didn't wow me.  The brunch menu did come with a cocktail, and my bellini was good.

The atmosphere is they key to this restaurant – they had a live band playing jazz.  At first I thought "wow that's a really great quality CD theyr'e playing, maybe just good speakers…?!?"  then I realized that there was a guy with a bass and a drum set and people were playing.  It was amazing.

We didn't want to leave so we ordered dessert.  I got the red wine poached pear and shared it with my fiance – it was gorgeous and delicious!!!

The main water did mess up one of our orders and served our friend something she was not able to eat.  (switched omlettes with someone else?)  Otherwise, service was acceptable.

    I think it's a solid 3.5 stars.

  7. The perfect place to share a glass of wine on a beautiful Sunday afternoon.  Live musical trio playing lovely tunes. Friendly service, informative with good wine suggestions.  Their wine list is huge so the guidance was very much appreciated!  We didn't try any food so this review is just for the wine (and Belinis), the atmosphere and the service.

  8. Came here for my birthday with family and we were treated like royalty. The mussels were incredible, as was the duck breast and escargot. Great wine selection and a close walk to the theatre. Highly recommend!
