Lederhosen

“Started with a delicious warm pretzel, then the pork shank which was MASSIVE – definitely big enough for 2.”

“In the back is larger room with painted murals on the wall and picnic tables, sort of like an indoor beer garden.”

“It doesn't have the character of Zum Schneider, but is every bit as good as the trendier Loreley, and certainly more German.”

  1. Bar is front; four tops in the back.  German beer on tap.  Place was almost empty Saturday early afternoon.  Sports playing on a small flat-screen

I had the goulash soup which was acceptable plus a German lager. Not very impressed but I may go back for more of the menu.  Prices seem reasonable.  Bartender was friendly.

  2. I should have gotten the clue when all of the other restaurants and bars on the street were packed and Lederhosen only had five people inside beside the bartender/server. Unfortunately, I did not.

This was the "wurst" German food, make that WORST FOOD (if I dare call it that), I have eaten in a long, long time. The bartender warned me that the beer was sour, but so were the potato soup ($3), the schnitzel sandwich ($8), and the Jägerschnitzel ($19).

I have traveled extensively in Germany and Eastern Europe where schnitzel is a staple and have never tasted anything as disgusting as the Jägerschnitzel I was just barely was able to keep down tonight. On top of that, the accompanying fried potatoes were burnt to a crisp.

When I mentioned all of this to the server/bartender, we did not get as much as a "sorry" or an offer to make things right, only an unintelligible wisecrack from the obviously inebriated proprietor on the way out.

The only saving grace was the soft pretzel ($3) and mustard which was cheap and not bad, being the sole thing keeping this greasy spoon from ending up with a single bomb and a spot on my WALL OF SHAME.

  3. I was in the area waiting for someone who is chronically late and needed a place to pop in for a beer. I wanted a low key bar in a two block radius and trusted that anything German would not be pretentious or annoying. I was right!

The bar was empty when I walked in, with German pop music playing in the background. The front has a sort of community center feel; there's a room off the bar with blinds, a bookcase, and a chess board. I picture talks taking place in that room between older regulars who have been drinking here for many, many years. In the back is larger room with painted murals on the wall and picnic tables, sort of like an indoor beer garden.

I can't for the life of me remember the names of the beers I and my latecomer friend ordered, but the female bartender was so kind and showed us the proper way to pour hefeweizens so you release the yeast from the bottom of the bottles. There were two other men at the bar by the time we left on a Friday around 6, both of which were reading and keeping to themselves. I think this place was really charming.

  4. a german restaurant ran by Germans! finally. They serve really good German beer here, and the food is also very authentic. The service is fantastic. (I also came on a quiet Sunday night.)  Uli swears a lot and she's the awesomest. We chatted a little bit in German and found out that she's actually German. That's when you know things are legit. The food sent me back to my summer in Germany. German food is in general underrated. This place is awesome place to try! Will come back!

  5. Cool German bar that reminded me of my time in Berlin.

The front of the bar is narrow, and there's a pretty big seating area in the back, but they wouldn't let us sit back there without ordering dinner. It was like a quarter full by the time we left.

Anyway, we sat down and had two rounds of delicious German brews. Also had a pretzel (only $3!) and the large wurst party platter (you get to choose two types). The food was pretty good, and I appreciated that they gave you three types of mustards with the wurst (which also came with slices of baguette).

Service was a bit slow as it seemed like there was only one waitress taking orders at the bar and throughout the place.

In any case, I'd probably come back.

  6. I adore this German bar, especially the outdoor feel at the back where there are picnic benchemulleds and walls painted with scenes from the German countryside, which certain helps add to the casual and relaxing charm of this place. I enjoyed the wine that I had and am excited to give the rest of their warm alcoholic offerings a try,  especially as the weather get colder!

  7. This place was incredibly cute and charming.
If you are looking for quality sausage and beer this is the place to go.
I had the kielbasa and a mass octoberfest. That means 17oz!

So good! And the service is absolutely lovely. Definitely a cool spot to frequent.

  8. I wouldn't say this is the best German restaurant I ever been to.  Was lucky enough to come during happy hour, woo hoo $5 beers!   Ordered the sauerbraten which was missing something in the gravy.  Cloves?  Ginger snaps?  It was just missing something.  The meat was fall apart tender though.  The goulash, on the other hand, took me back to our trip to Budapest.  Thick, spicy and the meat was very tender.  I would come back for the goulash.  The setting is like a beer garden so it's communal seating and forget conversation when it gets busy.  Service is very fast and friendly.  They have wifi too!  Price are better here than most German places in the city.  Not a great place, but good enough to want to return.
