  1. First off, the service here the other night was unbelievable.  The waiter was not overbearing, he was not slow, he was kind, friendly, etc.  I can not say how good the service was.

Appetizers we went with an order of the garlic bread, and mozzarella and tomato.  Both appetizers were extremely good.  The garlic bread is oily and garlicky, so clearly a good combo.  The balsamic on the mozz was good too.

For dinner, I had the spaghetti and meatballs.  I was a little upset the meatballs seemed to have too much 'filler' in them, but the spaghetti and sauce was good.  I'd have liked a little more beef/meat.

Their delivery system is pretty cool in theory, and if i lived closer, would try it out.

  2. YUMMMMMMMM. I wasn't sure what to expect because it had so many well-rated reviews and my expectations were a bit high. I am so happy that all the praises are justified. I came here for a roommate dinner and it was the perfect set up for catching up with friends. The wait staff was super friendly, very attentive in refilling our water and ensuring we were having a good time. They have wine and beer which was exactly what we were looking for. As for the food, it was delicious.

My roommate and I started with the pizza bread and meatball trio. Both were hits for me. I would go back just to eat the appetizers. The pizza bread was so good and huge in portions. Six thick cut pieces of heaven. The bread was crisp and crunchy on the outside but super fluffy, airy and soft on the inside. It was strong to hold the tomato sauce and melted mozzarella well. Add some parmesan cheese and red hot chili flakes and it became glorious. Loved every bite. The meatball trio were three large balls of awesome meat. The meat itself was seasoned very well and the tomato sauce was creamy with great hits of basil and olive oil. Both were plenty to share between two people.

I was already kind of full by the time the pasta came but of course I devoured that as well. We shared the Spaghetti and white clam sauce and again, another top notch dish. There was plenty to share between two people. The spaghetti was cooked perfectly al dente and the white wine sauce was seasoned beautifully and tasted almost buttery with the spaghetti. There were also plenty of clams in the dish. Like a delicious surplus of it which is great because it balanced well with the pasta and made every bite worth it.

Overall, a delicious meal. Given the quality and execution of the dishes, I would highly recommend it for a good casual dinner with a date or friends. Man that pizza bread was just addicting. Also the prices don't break the bank which is even better!

  3. All I have I say is, it's probably the best pasta and garlic bread I've had in NY, I don't have an Italian grandmother but if I did I bet her food would taste like this, instead I just have an UES 6train commuting BF who walked by this place enough to suggest we try it.

Brand new on the UES, this place is super nice inside, even though their gimmick is that you take the home cooking togo, I wouldn't mind dining in as its so nice!

The people behind the counter were over and above friendly! They had lobster bisque samples and then even gave us a meatball sample while we decided what to order. That's right, a full meatball served to us while we decided… The customer service was some of the best I've ever had.

As for the food, I'm not a huuuuge Italian food fan (gasp!), but maybe I'm now a convert. We ordered the penne a la vodka with chicken and garlic bread. The fact that the small is said to be for 1-2 people is hilarious… Maybe 1-2 body building humongo men who spend their weekends weightlifting dump trucks.

Also, PS, they said they beat Bobby flay in a meatball throw down, and who doesn't love celebrating flays defeat??

  4. Very good for take-out. The restaurant area is small, but nice, good for a meet up with a friend, or a quick dinner. The pastas and desserts are great. Love the Spaghetti & Meatballs, simple but delicious and decent portions. Really the best meatballs I've ever had (sorry MB Shop). The price is right if you get a pot of pasta for 2 to go. Many places around the area have their entrees at $15 or more and are not as good. A small pot feeds two hungry people very well, and chances they'll be leftovers. The personal red pot is perfect for storing it (bring it back with your next order to "reuse" & you get a $4 discount). I hope these guys stick around, we plan to order and visit them a bit.

*I take off at least 1.5 stars for the Cacio e Pepe, it was HORRIBLE! INEDIBLE! If we hadn't done takeout I would have sent it back. All Pepe, no Cacio. I got sick from just a small portion. Dishes that overload on one particular spice is a sign of bad cooking. Get a new recipe for this one. Take a visit to Cacio e Pepe on 2nd Ave for how it should be made.

  5. I liked this place and the concept. You get a nice pot to keep and reuse (when you'll get a $4credit off the next order).  We had the spaghetti with meatballs which was good, not the most flavorful dish but I enjoyed it.  We'll try the pesto on our next visit.  The garlic bread was fine, a bit too greasy though.  In sum, really 3.5 stars here.

  6. This place is wonderful. Pricey but the food definitely hits the spot. I think pics of those cute pots just had me dying to try this place out so when my son and I picked up hubbs from his job nearby, we were stoked to stop by for an early supper.

They're open from noon to night but close from 3-5 so, when we arrived around 5, we were the only ones there. The dining area is small so I can only imagine how packed they get during busy nights. From what I overheard, they offer dine-in, delivery and take out so, you're not limited to waiting forever for a table if/when they are busy during a visit.

We sat at a corner table and the server was very sweet. She saw me shivering and offered to turn off the AC since it was directed straight at us.

They have menu items but also specials. For starters, we got the "Million Dollar" Potato Chip. It's decadent but pricey, at $20. Three housemade potato chips topped with housemade Crème Fraiche and Caviar. They tasted great but I'm sure I could recreate at home for the same price but produce about twenty of those sexy little things. We opted for a second appetizer; deciding on one of the specials mains as a half portion. We went with the Ricotta Ravioli served in a "blizzard" of Truffles. They were very tasty but I wished there were more. I guess that's what I get for ordering a half portion.

For our mains, we went with Grandma Maroni's Meatballs w/Spaghetti which was OK. I only say this because I forgot to confirm the meat types in the meatballs and before I took a bite, I found out that it contains a mixture of beef and pork. I wish they stated that on the menu but TBH, if it's Italian and is "Grandma's"  recipe, it most likely has some pork in it. The spaghetti was good as was the sauce.

We had two other mains; the Rigatoni Cognac Pomodoro was served with a Ricott Basil Fondue that was super creamy, and the Chicken Milanese was like a bruschetta with chicken instead of crostini. The food was really good. The service was really good. We caught the place before they got busy so, the staff was super attentive and my fave word, accommodating.

We ended our meal with some Tiramisu that I'm sure was housemade but probably came straight out of the fridge. I could have we lived without it, IMO, but my son polished it off and we all enjoyed our food.

The place is kitschy. It's cute. I would probably dine here again if I was in the neighborhood and stopped by. The prices are up there and we ended out meal at about $42/pp without any real take home and not including tip. Food for thought.

  7. Cute little restaurant. There were three of us and service was super fast! We shared the spaghetti and meatballs, the linguine with clam sauce, and the chicken milanese. Everything tasted great and the pasta was perfectly al dente. Simple menu, adorable red pots, reasonable prices, and great classic rock decor. I see a successful future for you Maroni.

  8. After the first time visiting this lovely spot, we had to go back to try another kind of hot pot. This time, we bought small pot of Spaghetti & White Clam Sauce. Unlike the meatballs, this one does not have option to opt out the spaghetti. We were ensured by the staff "don't worry, it comes with a lot of clams!" so we went with it. We also bought Classic Garlic Bread with the pot as well.

We could smell the wonderful aroma the entire way home, and we were soooo excited to try this dish! As soon as we got home, we opened this pot of delights. It was overflowing with lots and lots of clams, just as the staff told us. They also had spaghetti really packed underneath.

After having a huge platefull, happy and full, and still had half the pot (if not more) of spaghetti and clams left. We happily finished the entire pot in the next couple of days. It was delicious from the beginning to the end. And just as before, the staff there was super nice and polite. I really love it when I could see and feel that our business is fully appreciated. Will definitely going back for more! Read my full review of this restaurant and food on my blog, foodlovergirl.
