  1. **Review #250 (Wish it was an amazing meal…!)

Very disappointed with our latest visit to Mithaas this past weekend – once the go to place for chaat and quick bites. They've added too many tables with barely any place to move, the service is strictly below average… too many people and the staff is not able to cope. But what was most worrisome is the level of hygiene – most of the plates, silverware and water jugs were cruddy and dirty and simply not acceptable.

The food was strictly okay – their mainstay chaat is no longer the same – not the freshest or tastiest. We ordered a bunch of stuff and everything was brought out in a haphazard manner. The appetizers (chaat) came out last and they completely forgot the sev puri we ordered and brought it out towards the end of the meal. The servers would just walk by and dump the food on the table and walk away. Everyone seemed too stressed and harassed.

–Aaloo tikki – there was barely any tikki in this one – just chole (chickpeas). At least it was warm.
–Sev Puri – Ice cold. The chutneys, potatoes and all the condiments were really icy cold, killing the taste of the dish. Everything is supposed to be served at room temperature folks. It was totally flavorless.
–Sarson ka saag and makki roti – this is a Punjabi staple and was the saving the grace of the meal. This dish was done pretty well and had a nice kick to it. The roti was fresh. If you like this, suggest doing take out.
–Malai kofta and roomali roti – the kofta was too sweet and the roti was pre-made and reheated.

Our guest who was looking forward to authentic chaat was disappointed. Not sure if the management has changed, but hope they can improve the quality of the food and service and bring it back to what it once was. Won't be returning anytime soon.

  2. Good selection of sweets.. We tried the rasmalai and ladoo and both were great.. Vada pao was good.

  3. Good food, love the falooda drink, small place.

  4. The jersey city location of Mithaas is tiny with not a ton of seating. However the food selection and sweets collection is excellent (though, again, not as expansive as what the Edison location offers). The sweets are sugary, buttery, moist, and exactly what Indian desserts should be like!
The food displays make me salivate and would entice anyone to order what is on display! The menu offers tasty Indian snacks, North Indian fare, and delicious indo-Chinese. It is conveniently located in jersey city's journal square area – dubbed little India! Parking can be found on side
Streets that border the main road with shops.

  5. Though I am a huge of of this place but every time we go there I leave a little disappointed, and wifey would say, "I told you it's overrated".
Still, I suggest you go and try this place. They serve chaats very close to indian style. Everything that u will try there will be above average.

  6. I've been at Mithaas a few times, and have always enjoyed the food there. I grew up eating Indian food (though nothing that similar to what they have here), mostly at home but also in restaurants, and in terms of more casual Indian food, this place is definitely consistently good. They have a huge menu serving everything from chaat to fusion items like veggie burgers and masala fries to North Indian curries (paneer, aloo gobhi, etc) to Indo-Chinese to south Indian specialties (dosas, idlis, vadas, etc).

Normally I would be very skeptical of a place with so many options, but all the food I've tried has been tasty. My favorites come from the chaat menu and they were accommodating with my requests to "make it mild and without cilantro" (smh at myself). I've eaten there and gotten food to go and I would recommend both. It's a nice place to eat- clean and a decent amount of seats. They also have mithai for purchase; I haven't tried it but it looks good. I have also visited their North Brunswick and Edison locations and I think the food here was better.

  7. A clean restaurant with good lighting and friendly staff. Went there with a friend for an early dinner.I had the paneer katti roll & a thandai and my friend had a masala dosa & a mango lassi. The waiting time for the food was very short. The katti roll was amazingly yummy and the masala dosa too was well appreciated.I also had a to-go order of veg hakka noodles for the hubby. It was a little too bland for either of our liking.Overall, I found the quality of the food and service great.

  8. Mithas is Indian fast food. You order at the counter, they give you a number and after a bit someone comes and serves you good and also clean up after you. This is a no frills attached completely vegetarian restaurant.

Another unique feature about Mithas is that it's an Indian dessert / sweet store. So you also pick up some yummy Indian desserts while you eat. I haven't tried too many things, just the regular boxes during Diwali and it's always nice. I don't think it's made fresh on location but it's not bad.

They offer almost all Indian food, Gujarati, Punjabi, maharatrian and South Indian so there is a lot to choose from. My favorites that I have tried so far are Makki roti (corn) and sarson ka saag (mustard leaf), dhoklas, chole batura, bhel puri and malpoa rabri. There are loads of things I haven't tried yet. The service has always been very pleasant every time I have been there and they also deliver almost everywhere in jersey city. All good.
