  1. Great addition to the Jersey City arts district (the heights). Love the vibe of the place, the guys are really laid back and makes some of the greatest tasting coffees I have ever had. I usually like my coffee with milk and sugar but with their cold brew, I could drink it straight. It was that good. Their mocha is delicious as well, not too sweet. These guys really know their coffee and how to make the perfect cup. Not much sitting room but they do have some outdoor seating. And since its located across from the park, you can certainly sip on your coffee and look at the amazing view of the city. I think more and more people are discovering Mod Cup so the lines have been longer and longer each time I go. But it's definitely worth the wait.

  2. We went here for a quick stop to get an afternoon pick me up. This place is a quaint coffee shop located in the midst of residential area. They have very limited seating space.

I was going to try their Nitro coffee, however the nitro system was working right and so I tried their cold brew. I normally use counter culture beans at home and only goes to coffee shop who used counter culture beans.

I didn't get chance to take a look at what kind of beans they use, but the cold brew was super awesome, it tasted like chocolate, fruity, and complex. Very impressed! Will certainly be back to try the other drinks in the near future.

  3. great coffee shop / café.  they have individual drip coffee cups or previously brewed coffee as well as the standard coffees.  great place to stop by to grab a cup of joe to go or a sit down breakfast.  can become really busy though

  4. Terrific coffee, and if you're up for a tutorial about proper brewing techniques, coffee origin, and type of beans you're at the right place.  You can feel the passion that goes into brewing every cup.  Not cheap, but well crafted artisanal products usually aren't.  Holding me back from giving it 5 stars are, perhaps, two things out of their control-to wit, the dearth of parking and the almost studio cast of wannabe hipsters who frequent the place.

  5. I had heard about this coffee shop from a friend so when I was in the neighborhood for an open house I stopped in after my appointment. I didn't realize how small the space was until I was inside with 5 other people plus my party of 3. Things were a weeee bit tight but no sense in worrying because Milo, the barista, was able to take command of the room and make the 4 other tasks he was simultaneously performing look like cake.

Whats so special about this place? They brew their drip coffees TO ORDER; hence the crowds and lines. They had 4 different blends: Costa Rica, Kenya, Ethiopia & Bali. I can't say with certainty that these options are always available but in any event, this is what they had. I'm not a hugeee fan of drip coffee so I opted for an espresso with almond milk (AKA a latte) and it was phenomenal. A perfectly dark and aromatic roast… yum yum yum. I took a sip of someone else's drip (the Costa Rica) and it had such an intriguing flavor, honestly unlike any other I've ever had. They also had a few croissants and pastries from Choc-O-Pain, which is equally as amazing so that was another plus.

If I don't get the opportunity to live near Modcup, I will make it a point to stop by for a coffee on a weekend afternoon. This is the type of place that makes me want to sit outside (with beautiful NYC I might add!) forever with a bottomless brew. Now, if only my bank account wasn't in issue…

  6. Cup of mocha is $5, but ask any coffeephile and they will say that a cup of brew here is superior to a cup of brew anywhere else.

And if that cup of mocha takes ten minutes to make, it damn well should be!

Points for not being downtown…I will always give a business extra props for spicing up The Heights or Greenville.

When you step foot in here, you may agree that J.C is the 6th Borough. The place feels very "Brooklyn" like and the decor is nice. It's very small though, so keep that in mind if you're looking for a place to chill and write Citizen Kane 2.

    P.S: J.C Is not the 6th borough.

  7. If a Starbucks were to eat the members of the White Stripes, your high school chess club, and your favorite local bar for dinner, the next morning it would poop out Mod Cup. I entered seeking a respite in the form of an infused beverage and a quiet place to send an email. Its Lilliputian interior, a mix of rustic and modern touches bathed in light from a floor to ceiling window and bedecked in memorabilia of the rock stars of the modern age, provides just a handful of thoughtfully placed seats to hunker down and savor a delicate libation. The seats were all full. My plan was to take my iced chai almond elixir with a side of danger (don't drink if allergic to bees – you might die) to go. As I waited, a man asked me a question. We started chatting. His name was Chester. The barista put on a record (yes vinyl!). The sounds of Tom Petty floated through the air. I got my drink, took a sip, it was spicy and delicious. Another customer jumped into the conversation. His name was Joel. I waited for a polite break in the conversation to make my exit, then two others joined the discussion. It was spirited. We were interrupting one another and laughing. I was so confused. Aren't coffee shops where one goes to sit in a room with strangers and ignore them while enjoying an overpriced beverage and free wifi? Isn't eye contact and noise highly discouraged? This place breaks the paradigm. Don't come here if you actually have emails to send. But if you want a delicious caffeinated refreshment and good company, there is no better spot. Mod Cup proves that even if you enjoy coffee, you don't have to live like a refugee.

  8. My BF was talking about this place for so long, my friends loved it and went there every day of their trip. I had to give it a try. I was a little skeptical as I don't drink coffee, but I enjoyed my stay and can't wait to go back to Modcup Coffee.

People who work there create the amazing atmosphere of cool place where you just want to hang out. Small interior with music touch makes this spot unique and fun. Not so many tables but they have chairs outside or you can just take your beverage to the park across the street.

My BF made fast decision as it wasn't his first visit there. As I confessed that I'm not coffee lover, I was happy to find out that they offer interesting selection of tea. Guy who was there that day explained me how the tea is made (from coffee seeds) and let me smell those seeds. It was very good ice tea!

Modcup is very cool place with SUPER nice stuff! I just want to be a part of it.
