  1. The Quick: Completely overpriced, elegant, and delicious Chinese food. The infamous noodles are a treat, but could be found at most hole in the wall spots near by. Worth a visit for restaurant week.

    The Details: The spot is trendy and gorgeous, filled with attractive well dressed clientele.  Both times I've went I've seen someone semi famous, and have witnessed the chefs putting on a show for the literal 'hand pulled' noodles.

    The atmosphere and service was very impressive, and the portions were good for restaurant week. The food was delicious (served family style) but nothing extraordinary for the price tag.

    The Damage: $$$$ go for restaurant week and spend $38 + tip/tax to experience the glamour that is Mr. Chow

  3. Must try during restaurant week!!! Very nice ambiance. Amazing food. Service could be a little better, but restaurant week is a busy time, so I thought it was ok for the crowded place. If you can, choose to sit outside. Def a must try at some point, but very expensive!

  4. I like the drinks, but if you ask me it's just overpriced Chinese food.  I don't like Chinese food, but I've had better.  The service is good, but I'm not feeling the food.

  5. Endearing staff.  An embarrassment to Chinese fine dining.

    2015 RESTAURANT WEEK MENU — only applies to 2+ persons.

    SHRIMP FRIED RICE ($7.50) — where did the shrimp go?  Awfully pale shrimp huh?

    SPARE RIBS ($18.50) — dry and flavor is missing.  Supposed to be eaten with chili that would not come out of the oil/vinegar container.

    GARLIC LOBSTER ($50) — overcooked.  Not much taste to it either.  You get 10 pieces, that's $5 each.  Mostly shell and bones, limited lobster meat.

    WATER — Badoit sparkling water is $10.  Bottled still water by Fiji Water (Sam's Club in bulk).

    VENUE — run-down.  Overhead lighting needs 2 new bulbs.  Needs a new door main door due to bottom wear and tear with time and usage.

    FOOD CONTAINER — needs to be polished.

    SERVICE — horrid.  One would ask you for drinks without a drinks list menu.  Fine dining in plastic laminated menu.

  6. I finally came to Mr. Chow's for restaurant week on a Sunday night with a group of friends. The service and decor here is one of a kind. You definitely feel like royalty.

    We decided to order EVERYTHING off the menu! For the apps,the prawns with walnuts were so delicious along with the Mr. Chow noodles. I loved the Beijing Chicken which was very tasty. Oh, and I love how they let you wash your hands and towel off after eating appetizers!

    The dessert was sorbet and ice cream, which was the only thing that was normal.

    Perfect spot for a date or intimate group dinner!

  7. I will say this. I love the Chowster! In LA, the London is fun and New Year's Eve we went to the TriBeCa location. Why you ask? Because my 14 year old daughter heard it was a cool spot! She knew??? Ok, we really went because she always wanted to go and Dad loves it. But, we went to the early seating and it was still $80 per person and that's steep, however it is the Chowman. And it was good.

    Apps included my favorite squab lettuce wraps, chicken satay and the crab balls. (The reason for 4 stars-the single worst item ever) and dinner included lobster and those incredible noodles. A must order!!! The green shrimp is also unique and good.

    The champagne cart is expensive and oh so decadent. We stayed middle ground there and were very happy campers.

    Service is fantastic and this space is so pretty and open. It is a place that you truly could wear a tux and no one would blink. I love that nowadays. God bless Mr. Chow! Class baby!

  8. We ended up at Mr. Chow in Tribeca last Friday night at the suggestion of a friend-of-a-friend.  The decor is impressive, but the food does not live up to the price tag.

    We ordered:
    –Mr Chow noodles, vegetarian: admittedly, these were really good, and I kind of wish I had ordered them as my dinner.  The texture of the noodles was great, and the sauce was very tasty.  The texture of the vegetarian version was unidentifiable but not bad– it may have had tofu but I'm honestly not sure.
    –squab with lettuce: good lettuce wraps, and the best portion size of everything we've ordered.  I will admit to being a bit confused about this– it's on the menu as squab, but our server called it chicken, so I don't know what it is for sure or what we ended up with.
    –firey beef: crispier than I expected from the description, but with a satisfying spicy sauce.  Not fantastic enough to be worth $42 for the portion size.
    –velvet chicken: interesting sauce, but I didn't really care for the texture of the chicken.  And again, not worth the price.
    –fried rice: not particularly fried, but not a bad flavor.
    –drinks: my husband and I had a nice enough riesling, and I believe my stepmother-in-law liked the red wine she ended up with.

    This was a classy location and definitely not a bad meal, but it didn't live up to the hype I now know it has.    I've had better Chinese food for much, much cheaper.  There's so many lovely options in Manhattan– I'm sure there's better alternatives to Mr Chow.
