  1. Wow what a serendipity. Wandered into this rustic restaurant during my lunch break. It was quite empty at noon but definitely started to pick up around 1pm. My server was wonderful and even gave me an additional glass of my cocktail order because he over poured. No extra charge.

Prices are steep as a lunch option ranging from $12-$20 and cocktails $14 standard rate. But I was extremely pleased with my Quinoa Hash ($16) which was a large enough portion and tasty enough to be worth the price! A runny egg tops the quinoa hash which has a crispy charred layer on the outside. The hash was flavored well and such a great combination with the soft runny egg and tomato hummus on the side. Also included in this dish are pieces of Chorizo along with a fresh and tangy market salad.

  2. No wait on a Sunday afternoon? I'll take it!

Was in the area one recent morning in desperate need of brunch and I really didn't want to wait two and a half hours to get it. Navy delivered pretty well. We were seated immediately and ordered quickly: veggie pancake with smoked salmon and poached eggs for me, avocado toast with poached egg for my friend.

The food was AMAZING. The only downside? It took a solid hour to be cooked/delivered to the table, and the place wasn't even that busy when we ordered. We asked a waiter about 45 minutes in and he was decent at updating us, but overall I was pretty annoyed. This was diminished by how delicious the food was, however – I've never tasted a better veggie pancake, and it came with a slew of interesting additions: smoked salmon, some kind of pickled veggie and this amazing poppyseed sauce.

They have some interesting menu items – mussel toast, egg and quinoa bowls to name a few. And to be fair, I'd much rather wait for my food seated, coffee in hand, than to be saddled with an hour-plus wait for a table. Other than the wait, I loved Navy and will definitely be back.

  3. Had a great meal at this small and atmospheric restaurant.  All the food was good to excellent, with the standout being the most delicious crudo as a starter.  The wine list was solid – we thoroughly enjoyed an Albarino from Rias Baixas which complemented the food well and was reasonably priced by NYC standards.  My two slightly negative observations was that the food came too quickly – we were out of there in less than 90 minutes – and the GF options were limited because quite a few of the dishes had bread or toast: a simple solution would be to keep some decent GF bread in the freezer.

  4. I love everything about this cute neighbourhood café. The place is extremely pretty which means a lot these days. I think it is important to think design into every aspect which Navy does.

I ate a brilliant lunch here. The quinoa crisp ($16) is probably some of the best stuff I have eaten for a long time. Seriously amazing. It is served with a poached egg, chorizo sausage, creole mayo and market greens; this day a simple kale salad with the most perfect dressing. The dish was so in balance with every taste.

The service was absolutely perfect too. Relaxed and friendly yet professional and attentive. I could not ask for more.

Do yourself a favor; stop by Navy very soon. The place is beautiful, the food is stunningly delicious and the service perfect. Finally you will experience the most relaxed and cozy atmosphere. Go, go, go….

  5. My, how second impressions can differ from firsts. I was all set to give Navy an unfavorable review, but after having the deliciously deliteful quinoa crisp entrée at lunch the other day (the first time), I've completely fallen in like with this dainty, jazzy and purely lovable time warp restaurant and my newly restored ability to pick good places on the fly.

Perhaps it's because the long winter dreariness has been taken over by sunshine that I couldn't stop smiling. I felt that my foodie magic returned as soon as I read the getting-ready-for-summer-friendly dish on Navy's vegetarian-friendly but sparse lunch menu. And when it came to our table, it was a lot prettier than I'd imagined. Never been served quinoa like that!

A pretty mahogany brown square of delicious, wholesome and fun-to-eat crispiness with a soft, runny egg sitting on top and flavorful whitefish on the side. Well versed in texture, flavor and originality, this dish could easily be rated five-star worthy, even with the just ok side "salad".

But the wine wasn't great twice! I went back the other day (my third time) and ordered–along with my quinoa crisp for a second taste because I couldn't stop thinking about it–a drunken bellini but got an almost sober mimosa in a tinker bell juice glass. So needless to say I'll be ordering iced tea for my next two hour lunch at my favorite color named, speak-easy-ish, teeny tiny and now usually jam-packed eatery.

  6. Service was good.  Food was decent. I wish they had the uni toast that I came here for.

    Food:
    Scallop ceviche – delicious
Rock shrimp – OK; we were expecting the shrimp to be bigger
Gnocchi – good; on the heavier side

  7. Mega disappointment.  The vibe is generally cool here but tonight a place that's been under hear for losing their chef acted very snooty when they weren't full. Example 1 – A coat I put on a bar seat for a minute to organize something – was told 'we have some guys coming in for that seat so move your stuff.' Btw no one came in entire hour we were there for those seats. Example 2 – we asked for bread with a ricotta dish. They apparently don't do bread but may have some. Yes they found some wonder bread like substance. Example 3- a ramps special had almost 12 ingredients that made absolutely no sense together with no flavor and greens impossible to sort out how to properly eat. Overall the air was off putting and for no reason. I want to love navy. But we went to Charlie bird for dinner after dinner at navy.

  8. tried to go to raoul's but instead stumbled upon this place. great soundtrack and ambiance. word up: no liquor so dont think youre coming here and getting that appletini youve had a hankerin' for. had the octopus and it was dope. thank u to the awesome bartender who dealt w our obnoxious group. sorry it was amateur hour when we came to your lovely restaurant.
