The tea here is the best out of all the dimsum places nearby. I always order the crysthamthem and it was full of flavor.
I feel bad for the lady in the front podium guarding all the waiting customers, number tickets and called out the numbers. She was bombarding with people.
The food is good, however, my problem is that not all carts will go to your table or down the aisle. Your experience here depends on where you are seated for dimsum. I wanted to try certain dishes but weren't able to and tried others instead. The food is better than the other places but it they were faster than the customers wouldn't wait too long in the front.
Decided to come here with some friends after our usual dim sum spot had a 2 hour wait time. So we walked down the street requested a table for 6 with a 10 minute wait before sitting down and this place was packed also.
The selections for dim sum are similar to our usual spot and prices are similar. The only thing I dislike was that they cook their beef tripe differently but everything else was good.
Maybe it was my incessant babbling about how good Vancouver dim sum was, but mom decided for her belated Mother's Day meal, she wanted dim sum. I suggested East Harbor after reading Yelp reviews but mom does not hear the beat of Yelp's drum but her only her own. And the dim sum here? A disappointment compared to other NY dim sum places and no comparison to any of the great stuff I had on a recent trip to Vancouver.
We had:
Shrimp Dumplings: big but okay. I ate one plate for myself only because I had nothing much else to eat.
Custard Buns-mom liked this dish. A bit too much grainy filling, a bit on the sweet side and a tad too much. Another okay dish.
Sesame Balls-more like fried mocha. Light and crispy. One of the better ones, though mom and Pickiest sis said it wasn't the real fried sesame balls, the ones with the thicker skin. Not, but way easier to get frozen mocha and fry it!
Coconut Pudding-half coconut, half taro. Not great but not bad, not enough coconut flavor. Pretty.
Tripe-Oldest sis and mom said okay but left half the bowl uneaten, though oldest sis is picky about the cuts of tripe she likes.
Cruller wrapped rice rolls-surprisingly the crueler was crispy. Not my fave dim sum dish but here they did it well. That dish went the quickest next after the coconut pudding.
Shrimp Rice Rolls-two small shrimp per roll. Shrimp was off in taste. I was too dazed from the blistering hot spring day to make a complaint about being served bad shrimp. Yuck all the way. Sis tried it and didn't touch the shrimp. Seriously? Spoiled shrimp?
Tofu Skin Rolls-well, mom ate one and left two on the plate. She frowned too when I asked her if it was good.
This place is huge, with a good crowd on a Friday morning. The white tablecloths sharply contrast with the gold fabric draped seats and the red walls decorated with gold phoenixes and dragons. Not a décor I'd call elegant, but certainly colorful and bold. The place needs to paint the dirty, scratched wall by the exit sign(as if furniture had been moved and the wall was damaged) and add some doors to some of the stalls in the ladies room. Would I come here again? I think I will wait for a return trip to Vancouver.
Meh. A huge dim sum joint that sometimes feel like it could become a possible fire hazard. My family likes to come here on Sundays because the wait seems to be a bit shorter compared to other dim sum places. However, still expect to wait at least 30 minutes (unless you know the waiters here).
The pros about this place? Spacious seatings. Well, it's not exactly spacious but definitely roomier than other dim sum parlors. The con? The noise. With more people in a room, the louder it gets. Sometimes I feel like I have to yell so the other side of my table can hear me.
The food here is just alright. They have the usual dim sum, nothing special about this place. If you're looking for quality dim sum, this is probably not your place. If your party values comfort and space while enjoying their meal, then new spring garden is not so bad. Would I come back here? I do but if I had a choice, I would choose to get dim sum elsewhere.

One of the 4-ish (arguable of course) major Chinese restaurants in the area. Food is decent (standard NYC Cantonese) but not much more, though still one of the go-tos in the area. Free exposed parking lot right across the street – drive up to the little booth and hand your keys over, but have a small tip ready when coming back to pick up the car. An fyi – a few times I've had some quarters go missing while parked here. Weekdays are a little cheaper than weekends. If coming for dim sum, know that weekend primetime (10.30-12.30) will probably be a 30-60 minute wait in a typical week. For dinner, could be worth calling ahead because they do host big events (eg. wedding receptions, association dinners, etc.) here during which most if not all of the dining area will be booked out. Not frequently but this has happened to me a couple of times.
On Christmas Day, I came here for Dim Sum with family and it was a complete madhouse! We arrived at about 12pm, although our party had been waiting since 11:30am-ish. There were many parties waiting for a table from the outside, inside and everywhere around the restaurant. Even though the restaurant is very big, the entire place was packed to capacity. I remember seeing on the wall that the restaurant's capacity was 518 persons, but it seemed evident that they were way over that number.
The restaurant employs the typical Dim Sum system of seating where it's first-come, first-serve. They call out numbers on a microphone and if you're lucky enough to get called run to your table ASAP! The reason being, in our case, there was another party also standing at our table and ready to take it. After 5 minutes of back and forth bickering, we basically got the table and they got the one next to ours. It was an unfortunate situation, but due to overcrowding situations like this will arise often.
Anyhow, we finally sat and went to work on ordering our dim sum. From what we ordered and what I saw on all of the carts that passed by, this restaurant has a large selection of dim sum. I saw all of the typical and atypical dishes that I see at the most popular restaurants in Chinatown — there was Siu Mai, Chicken Feet, Shrimp Dumplings, Pan Fried Turnip Cake, Spring Rolls, Shrimp Noodle Rolls, Beef Noodle Rolls, Sponge Cake, Coconut Jello, Egg Tarts, Buns and, of course, they also had their off cart menu of noodles (Pan Fried, Lo Mein, Chow Fun). The quality of all of the dim sum dishes were good, except for the Siu Mai. Typically, Siu Mai has some pork in it, but this restaurant makes it all shrimp. For some it be what they want, but for others, like me, it's not what I'm used to.
The service here was a bit spotty from time to time. Rudeness is expected at many Chinese restaurants, but at times, it seemed a bit more excessive here, such as when they gave us our tea, they sort of just dropped it on the table. Also, when we ordered nestea, they dumped the cans on our table and threw the straws. Of course, this type of service won't ruin the restaurant in any way since most of these restaurants are like this, but it's something to definitely note if it's repeated.
This restaurant was so unappetizing. Came here for a wedding and of course I assume everything is mostly seafood – but seriously didn't think all the seafood would come out first and then the nonseafood ones come along with the dessert. That's fine because I'm used to that in Chinese banquets, but omgosh this was totally inappropriate where they serve the fish (that people eat) next to a glass of live gold fish on the platter as well. This was completely shocking and I was sick to my stomach on how they use these live fishes just as simple visual decorations and then flush them away. Why was this even a thought ??? Disgusting and real animal cruelty … Not only was the food non flavorful the staff there were beyond rude. The thing I hate the most at banquet is that they fill your plates from the main dishes like we can't serve ourselves. The guy was serving me seafood and then spilled the soy sauce based sauce over my dress and barely looked at me while he whispered an "apology". I was dressed for a wedding banquet and you ruin my dress – all you have to say is a whispered sorry? Ridiculous. I was lucky that my napkin covered most of the spill – but it still stained my dress. Walked away appalled and starving.
My family and I go here when we don't want to trek to or wait for East Harbor. Typical Chinese places for dim sum that is super packed on the weekends. Ways to bypass the wait? Go early or make friends with the staff!
Location wise, it's pretty decent for bus, subway or cars. They do offer a small valet parking space, which is nice for those who live far away because you can park your car, get dim sum, and then stop by the Chinese supermarket for cheap but fresh groceries.
Food wise, I would say it's average, with all the offerings you could want in dim sum. Depending on where you are seated, you might have to be more proactive to get dishes you want, as often the dim sum ladies would be ambushed by people whenever the pipping hot fresh dishes come out. I personally feel that that's part of the traditional dim sum experience I grew up with.
Service is ok. You'll be taken care of, but not necessarily thoroughly. Price is pretty good compared to neighboring restaurants. The only downside is that this place is huge, so noise level and crowdedness can be an issue if that's not your cup of tea.
