  1. The service here is really great! Every one is very friendly and makes sure you are taken care of the minute you sit down. They have a great wine list, my fiancé and I always go with the Ruffino Chianti Classico. It is one of our faves!

If you come here, you need to order the Lobster Fra Diavolo! It is the specialty of the house and it is for two people, but even is the other person is being annoying and wants something else, order it for yourself and take the left overs home!

  2. Came here for a business dinner after a great recommendation. I do not think that the experience was awful but given the excellent recommendation I was expecting more. We started with a table side Caesar salad which was tasty. For $22 though I think it has to be pretty darn incredible and our portion was very small. We ordered spaghetti carbonara and a chicken dish that was on special. I only ate the carbonara which was just swimming in sauce and had pretty large chunks of onion in it. It was also so hot when it came out that it singed my tongue and made for an uncomfortable rest of the meal. The taste of the sauce was nice though and I did eat a big portion of it. We ordered the ricotta cheesecake which I thought was bland and had a strange cake like texture. We also ordered an ice cream dish that I can't remember what it was called but it had a chocolate shell around it.

What stood out most to be was just how slow this place was. For a Monday night at about 730, it took forever. We were only one of maybe three patrons in there and it took nearly two hours. We were clearly done with the entire meal, declined coffee and the table was completely cleared and we could just not get a check. It also seemed weird given their traditional decor that they would have several tvs with the football games on. Since there are so many restaurants in the city and this just did not make any lasting impressions I think I'll give another one a try next time.

  3. Four of us went there during very bad weather but were glad we made it there. It was restaurant week with a prix fixe menu for $38.00. We all loved our meal. They brought some bread and 4 green peppers for us to enjoy prior to appetizers. The appetizers were very good including the beef carpaccio and mozzarella with red peppers We all had the veal scallopini which was excellent. For dessert, I had the cheesecake which was really wonderful. The waitress was excellent, having memorized all the specials (there were a lot) and was very helpful in making our choices. It was an excellent meal and would gladly go again

  4. After searching the UES for a place to eat coming up dry due to the NYC marathon (many establishments already booked) we decided to go to Nino's. The crowd fit right into the ambiance including the piano/cabaret singer from the sixties.

The salads were good and the bread was especially remarkable. It took four requests to finally get a second small basket of this truly remarkable bread. The veal and scallop entrees and broccoli rabb  were very good. However the Branzino's herb was definitely off. Apparently instead of using parsley the table side preparer used either a rubbed sage or thyme. Regardless of which the fish didn't taste quite right.

Given the price ($42) of the  Branzino I should have said something. If there is a next time I will.

Nino's had some good points and some bad. Hence the rating of 3 stars.

  5. Old school Italian NYC tablecloth joint (I'm glad there are still a few left in the city)
Here's a place with homemade pastas, Italian wines as well as specials!? Why isn't the place packed during the afternoon?

I came in and the place was empty. I sat down a ordered a big glass of Italian wine. There is a nice wine list offered and ,my server was very helpful when I asked about the different regional Italian wines.

I ordered a price fixe lunch, amazing!

Fresh Mozzarella breaded and sautéed in anchovy sauce: Fresh homemade cheese, home run in my book.
Braised Lamb shank with roasted potatoes in Barolo sauce. It was a little heavy for lunch, very rustic and stick to your ribs lunch.
Tiramisu, the star of the show. Dessert that was made like my grandmomma used to make. Amazing

I highly recommend trying Nino's restaurant if your in the area.

  6. Nino isn't everywhere, or is he??

Well, Nino was definitely there last night! A friend and I went for dinner on a quiet Wednesday night and had a great time at Nino's Restaurant!

The bartender was absolutely lovely! Super friendly, he made a point to learn everyone's name. Nino was also lovely, he took a picture with me and my friend (I know, we are cheesy). The rest of the staff was equally as lovely.

    We had (Living Social):

Lobster Tail & Filet Mignon – delicious

Tiramisu – extremely good and I don't love tiramisu

The wine was fantastic and the restaurant is super clean. I will definitely be coming back with my family to sample more of Nino's food!

  7. If I were rating Nino's based only the food, it'd be 5 stars, easy. In one word, the food? Phe-NOM-enal. (See what I did there? 🙂

The appetizer special of tomatoes with dried meat, cheese, and beets was delightful. The duck risotto was creamy and luscious and AMAZING. The seafood pasta special was, hands down, the best pasta I'd ever tasted in my life. The pasta was perfect, the sauce was perfect, and the seafood was perfect. It's a shame this isn't a regular menu item! But, hey, if the dishes I tried are any indication of the rest of the menu, there really isn't anything to worry about.

It almost pains me to do this, but I have to deduct a star because of the ambiance and service. The decor is a bit cheesy, the music is inconsistent, and the runners who bring the food and clear the plates seemed grumpy and rude. That said, our two main waiters, were friendly and helpful.

All in all, I will definitely be back to Nino's to try the rest of their menu!

  8. A favorite old school Italian restaurant upper east. The service is impeccable, friendly and attentive. The atmosphere is more formal yet is warm, inviting  and comfortable — perfect for a celebration, family outing or date.  The decor Is lovely. They have a pianist / singer who adds to the ambiance Wednesday thru Saturday's, and when I was there on my birthday they even sang happy birthday to me and played other songs requested for me… The tables are spaced so that you're not on top of each other and the atmosphere is so warm and in inviting we didn't want to leave.  Food was outstanding;  the beef carpaccio, seafood salad and seafood pasta dish I ordered were fantastic, and the fruit tower was beautifully presented as were the entree dishes . When there on my birthday they accommodated a request to personalize my delicious chocolate desert plate with a message. Birthday, other dinners  and last week with a friend made for such a wonderful experience and I would highly recommend for an old school upscale Italian dining experience .
