Papa Poule

“I honestly enjoyed it even more than Maman, which is the trendy little French bakery owned by the same dude.”

“Just so you know what to expect, this place is minuscule….a charming French shoebox with an exposed kitchen that only offers take-out or delivery.”

“Everything was amazing and their chimichurri was the best I have ever tasted.”

  1. At first I thought how good can rotisserie chicken be? Then I came here and the chicken was divine. It was very moist and the meat was tender. The seasonings were also spot on. One of my top choices for a quick and tasty bite to eat

  2. This tiny and quaint spot opened up near my work not too long ago. It's very easy to walk past because it is so small, however what will stop you in your tracks is the amazing aroma that wafts from this tiny little storefront. I think that's what first intrigued me into trying this restaurant. I followed my nose to Papa Poule and I ordered my first lunch special and have been hooked ever since. I really love the chicken sandwich and the lunch specials also include a side and home made oreo.

The food here is fresh, and the staff is super personable. The only thing is that this is more of a cafe and there isn't any seating. There is a bench outside, but that's only good for during warm weather. I really enjoy the chicken sandwich, which you can get with or without the lunch special. The sides are decent although I'm usually quite full after the sandwich or rotisserie chicken… but I also don't have a huge appetite during lunch.

Overall I really enjoy the food here, very fresh and great tasting, especially if you are looking for good chicken!

  3. Came here with two colleagues to pick up lunch from this new "hot spot". Apparently the owner(s) have a cafe around the corner as well. The place is the size of a phonebooth, but people are extremely friendly and dont mind squishing in or reading you the dessert menu if you're last in line.

The food is fresh – super fresh. Everything looks great and smells delicious. They display their sweets in a little glass case – we picked up a chicken caesar salad and a caramel, brownie, cream layered thing. The dessert came in a mason jar (I saved mine to reuse for jams once I make my own this summer) and the salad came in a biodegradable container, which I love.

The team behind the counter obviously took a ton of pride in their craft – they talked us through options and sent us on our way with a huge bag of items (and a huge bill). It's normal NYC prices – my portion came to $20 for one salad and two desserts. Not my normal splurge, but the salad was worth it. The desserts were a bit bland – seemed to be lacking something.. maybe a little sea salt or fresh fruit? Either way – Id come back for that juicy chicken and dijon dressing any day.

  4. Well, I am not really sure why this place doesn't have more reviews because it is amazing. I honestly enjoyed it even more than Maman, which is the trendy little French bakery owned by the same dude.

This place is all about to-go rotisserie chicken along with a side or two and a sauce, and it is honestly some of the better rotisserie chicken I have had in NYC. The chicken here is heavy on the herbs and it is extremely moist. This is the only protein they serve and they truly do it well.

When it comes to to-go rotisserie chicken it is pretty hard to do better. The only place you can find comparable rotisserie chicken is in more pricey, sit-down restaurants such as Rotisserie Georgette.

The brussel sprouts here are the way I happen to like them: not oily or buttery at all and with a nice covering of onions. If you want something more decadent rather than healthy you might want to go with the potatoes.

As for sauce, I got the house made BBQ and it was legit.

Next time I come I think I am going to go to Sweet Green a few blocks up, get a salad, and then come here and put this stuff on top.
