  1. One of my favorite besties took me here on a dinner date and introduced to me the world of Peacefood Cafe. I was a little hesitant at first cause vegan is not my thing. Usually what that means to me is lots of gluten and soy which was not the case here. They actually have a book that lists all the ingredients and what allergens are in each dish.

Prior to coming here, I scoured the menu to figure out what I wanted to order. (I do this a lot now that I'm gluten free due to my allergy.) I went with the Peacefood Bowl as per recommendation. I loved the ginger scallion oil which reminds me of the oil that comes with the roasted chicken from the Chinese markets (homesickness here!). The vegetable tamale was amazing and I wish I had ordered 10 more of these bad boys! The cashew cheese and brazilian nut chai were a let down. As others have mentioned, the chai is very watered down.

For dessert, we shared a grasshopper cookie sandwich which was okay. The cocao mousse pie, now that was definitely worth it and so super rich. So glad I had somebody to share that with.

I have to admit it's pretty pricey but it was a special treat to pig out w my love.

  2. Very mediocre yet overpriced Vegan food. I had this place bookmarked for so long and really wanted to like it but it was such a disappointment! The good reviews must be from people who have never had really good vegan food like Quintessence in East Village or Cafe Gratitude in Los Angeles which are both amazing! Those 2 are pricey but worth the $$$. Even more affordable options like vlife, cinnamon snail, and beyond sushi are better in terms of taste / quality AND provide a better value.

The raw vegan lasagna tasted as though it wasn't made with the freshest ingredients. Couldn't manage more than 2 bites. Probably would not eat it again if you paid me. 0/5

The raw sushi was ok. Nothing special but not awful. A bit bland if you've tried flavorful options like beyond sushi but at least it was a good portion size. 2/5

Japanese Pumpkin sandwich that everyone raved about was gross in my opinion. I couldn't even manage more than a bite. The bread was cold and tasted stale. The stuff inside the sandwich was oddly and unusually SWEET. I have had Japanese pumpkin before and am usually a big fan of everything with it but not the case here! Another thing I probably wouldn't eat if you paid me. 0/5

Chickpea fries were actually pretty good but overpriced for the small portion…I believe it was around $9/$9.50. Tastes like something you can get a the frozen food section of trader joe's. 4/5 for taste. 1/5 for poor value / portion size.

To top it all off? Awful service. We had to ask for water 3 times before they brought us any…I rarely consider spending money on food a "waste" but in this case, I seriously can't believe we wasted over $60 on this meal

  3. Love the food at Peacefood! It's some of the best vegetarian food I've ever had.

I recommend having the "chickpea fries" for $9.50, an award winning recipe with a hint of indian spices, served with house dipping sauce. I also love the vegetable tempura, $10, served with minced daikon, ginger & soy sauce.

Sometimes they have specials like the vegetable pot pie. I love love love the veggie pot pie! It was so creamy and delicious. It's filling but doesn't make you feel sick after you eat it.

The strawberry cheesecake is delicious. I'd recommend having that for dessert. It's $6.50.

They have a nice selection of hot teas. $3 for a cup with free hot water refills.

If you live or are visiting New York, I'd recommend visiting this restaurant. Great food. Lovely staff.

  4. Everything that we ordered was delicious. The service here is friendly and patient as we could not decide on what to order. We got an order of the dumplings, the potato pizza, the tempeh panini, a burger and the raw key lime pie. Everything was flavorful and we were stuffed at the end of the meal. The juices looked great as well but I opted for the ginger-ade which is ginger and lemonade. Take a look at the dessert display case to see the desserts.

  5. I'm not vegan but I like that the place was casual and had interesting dishes and it was actually pretty good overall.  The pasta sauce was delish and I liked the cauliflower in my meal.  Service is definitely slow, per the person I went with but if you have time to linger and want to eat healthier fare, you can't go wrong here.

  6. Every time I come here something goes wrong..
Today I got the brazil nut chai w soy milk and the 4 vegetable plate with kabocha, eggplant, brussel sprouts and bok choy. The greens were cooked well and the eggplant and kabocha were both tasty although a bit undercooked and too crunchy. But whatever, the food exceeded my expectations, given my bad experience from prior visits. The service was horrendous. I sat alone on a two-top and when my food came it was placed at the far end of my table. Nobody ever came to check on me which is ok. But at the end of the meal the blonde girl put the check on my table first and then asked if I wanted any dessert as if she already knew I would say no. I would have got a cookie or brownie or whatever but after that I decided not to. So I took out my card and it took her about half an hour to come back and ring me up. With no "thank you" or anything she left the check for me to sign.
I actually chatted with a guy working here and tonight happened to be his first night. I asked him how the evening was going and he said "lots of water refill." I think that's exactly the case with the service I got today. Water refills and nothing else. It's been a long while since I last left a minimal tip..

  7. I returned on a weekend morning for breakfast and found the ambience to be much more relaxing than dinner. The tofu scramble is as good as ever, and the coffee with soy milk is excellent. Delicious, healthy breakfast at fair prices (for the UWS, anyway)!

Update 6/2016: Zucchini pizza and pumpkin sandwich are excellent, though I still recommend the fluffy quinoa salad if it's your first visit.

  8. I'm not a vegan, and found this place to be wonderful. I ordered the vegan pot pie on the recommendation of my girlfriend, and it was delicious. Not sure how they pulled off the cream inside the pot pie, but it was consistent with any pot pie I've had before, and the filling was plentiful.  Chocolate cookie was also excellent.  Nice ambiance (very casual) — there's a counter, but we had the table right by the front window, and we got great service as well.
