  1. came here on a Wednesday at 2pm for my mom's and hubby's birthday.  only 2 other tables and us.  by the time we finish eating, just us left.

so they don't close during the switch from lunch to dinner which is why we came here.  trying to get to U-yee but they closed for 2 hours

I've been eating here since before they renovated. I wish they kind of left it the way it looked when you can see the chefs cooking. Bamboo look and all.

Food has pretty much stayed the same, here and there a little more spice to it, some a little salty.. I always get the staples. roti canai for the app House fried rice with chicken, Malaysian pork chop and pad Tai… extras spring rolls and the calamari… all served family style..enough for 4 adults and a toddler.

Only thing that kind of killed it was the many flies lurking by our table booth, killed about 5 and 3 were still lurking.. maybe no booth by the window next time and the lack of AC, it was 100 degrees outside.. sweating while eating.

loved the Thai ice tea with Boba balls yummy

Staff was quick and very friendly:)

  2. I came here for a big family dinner – almost 15 people total. With such a large group, you could imagine it being very difficult for them to accommodate us. However, we all really enjoyed the food and the atmosphere. The interior is sleek with orange and espresso walls and plenty of uplighting. There were several large groups, and it seemed like the place to be with your family, extended family, best friends, that really cool girl you sat behind in physics class. You get my drift…

Anyway, we waited about 15-20 minutes while the previous group left and to have the table cleaned. Others in my group had been here before so ordering wasn't an issue. I'm not a picky eater so I was happy to have them take the reigns.

My top dishes were the roti canai (best I've eaten yet), the crispy honey squid, the sarang burung, and the soft shell crab. Special honors to the beef rendang and the whole fried red snapper. Also, be sure to order the coconut rice. Why go plain when there's coconut rice? Since real estate on the table was limited, the dishes couldn't be served all at once. Therefore, we had to finish dishes before being able to accommodate another. This is the nature of eating with a big group I suppose.

I wish I could say that I had dessert but there simply wasn't room. However, I heard the fresh coconut water was delicious. It's so fresh that you can scrape some of the coconut from inside the fruit!

My only complaint is that the bathroom was as cold as an ice locker. Maybe this is done to prevent people from lingering in there. Either way, I don't care. This restaurant was great and the food was excellent!

  3. Yummy yum yum..

Can not get enough of their chicken lettuce wraps and their penang tofu. The tofu is cooked to delicious perfection, with their sauce full of flavor! Lettuce wraps are the perfect any only way to start the meal… also the sauce that comes with it is amazinggg!!

The place is quiet big so very accommodating for larger groups if you need. They also take reservations which is a definitely plus. The parking lot isn't huge but some what fit.

They do get quiet busy during peak hours so if you're planning on going around lunch or dinner reservations are definitely recommended.

The only reason I wouldn't give this place 5 stars is due to their service… took a while to get seated and have the waiter to come over and take our order, even when it wasn't too busy. Other than that no complaints. Definite must try spot!

  4. Always drive past this restaurant and never tried it but now I can say I did. While I was some what impressed with the food, I was not impressed with the overall dine in service. We were seated quickly however ended up with a wobbly table. It gets annoying trying to eat your food and worry about it topping over. It took them a while to even get our drinks so we just placed our order when the server finally came.

We ordered the tofu in lobster sauce, shrimp pad Thai, chicken fried rice, and Shrimp drunken noddles. The food was edible with not much complainants, although I have tasted better else where it was still okay. They charge extra for rice for this dishes which I didn't like. Main dishes should come with a serving, but I understand about the noddles. In about 15 minutes the food came out and had to ask for spoons and chopsticks as well. They did not even ask us if we needed anything else. It was like here's your food eat, pay, and then go. My experience at most Asian restaurants is that you have to ask them, they will not ask you. Overall, food was okay but the service could use improvement.

  5. The restaurant really redecorated itself, it looks very trendy. Unfortunately, I do not know if the food quality and quantity was prioritized. I used to come here to Penang frequently when I was younger with my parents.

We usually ordered the roti canai as the appetizers, it really didn't change much. Usually for the entrees, I regularly ordered 3 dishes: Beef Rendang, Water spinach(kang kung) in belacan sauce, and Penang Tofu. The food was decent and the flavors were similar to what I ate in the past, but I feel the portion dropped. The Beef Rendang was a little tough and salty, but it was still edible. For dessert, I ordered chendol, which was a big disappointment. The chendol had all of it parts, but most of the ice melted before I could take a spoonful of it.

  6. Love their tofu in lobster sauce dish.  The tofu is fried on the outside and the dish is mixed with snow peas, carrots and mushrooms.  Their shrimp drunken noodles and shrimp pad Thai noodles are average.  It's not as spicy as I would like it to be.  I've had tasted better noodles at other Thai restaurants.  No dishes comes with white rice.  You'd pay additional for rice as it is considered as a side dish.  They do have jasmine white rice, coconut rice, brown rice.  The price range from $1 to $2 each.

Food was okay overall.  The service was different.  First, upon arrival, the workers were busy chatting to each other and didn't even noticed we were waiting to be serviced.  Finally, the cashier saw us and walked us over to a table.  When we sat down, we then noticed the table is wobbling.  It was so annoying but we tried not to let it ruin our lunch.  Finally, we placed our order and then the waiting began.  It took about 15 minutes later and our 1st dish came.  As appetizer, we tried the roti canai.  It was okay.

The dishes came out individually and guess what?  No one came to see how we are doing or if we need anything.  We had to flag the waiter down for spoons and chopsticks.

  7. Pad Thai was still pretty packed at almost 10 on a Saturday night. The wait for two people was about 10 minutes, which isn't bad. But I guess at that time, I was expecting no wait.

The satay tofu was super dry. It almost tasted like cardboard. It was as if they fried it once, didn't think that was enough, so fried it five more times after that. Thankfully, their noodles were a tad better. I had the drunken man noodles, which weren't too spicy, so it was perfect for me. I got it with chicken, which was dry. But I haven't found a Thai place yet that makes the chicken well.

They also have a fresh coconut. It's a little pricey at $6 because there isn't much juice in it. But if you like eating the coconut meat too, then it might be worth it.

The service was kind of slow. They ran out of the Hainanese chicken. When they came over to tell us, they asked if we wanted to order something else instead, but didn't even give us a menu to look at…

I'm not sure how many Thai options there are in this area but I'm sure there has to be a better one.

  8. I have been coming here for years, even prior to the remodeling, which gave the restaurant its current more fancy look. Can't go wrong with the roti canai. I used to always get the curry mee. I've had the pad thai, Penang tofu, char kway teow, drunken noodles… The food is pretty much consistently good.
