  1. Po is a solid 4 star Yelp restaurant. It's the type of place that when you don't want to go try a new place in the area you can always count on them to deliver quality, tasty food for a reasonable Manhattan price.

I recently went with my family here (we've been many times, but before I started to Yelp) and I enjoyed my dinner as always. I started off with white bean bruschetta which they already give you to start off with complimentary but I ordered more because it was so delicious. After that, my main entree was the cavatelli with broccoli which, if I'm not mistaken, I've gotten every time I've gone there because they make it so well. It's made with breadcrumbs so it tastes buttery and delicious. Both of the people I was with got the porcini crusted cod I believe which I thought was pretty good. Not the best fish you'll ever have but solid nonetheless.

With all the good things Po does it could use some change. The place across the street was packed on a Sunday night while po was mostly empty and there could be a few reasons why: the decor isn't exactly the best. It's not ugly but maybe they could use some sort of focal point to bring the ambience together; it's all sort of bland decoration wise. And of course the most important thing: they never change their menu. I went to po once and then returned the NEXT YEAR and remembered every single thing on that menu because it was the same. People will stop going if it's always the same! Even though they have specials it's good for a restaurant to at least change some dishes every season on their actual menu.

Regardless of these things po is still a solid place to go and I would recommend it to anyone!

  2. Solid meal from beginning to end. The pasta vongole was so rich and flavorful.. Every dish was just perfectly prepared… Definitely not your run of the mill italian restaurant..

  3. Great restaurant week menu! Split food with my husband, and so we got to try 6 things! Started with the soppressate and the sea bass ravioli. The soppressate really just tasted like regular salami. I didn't detect any sweetness or spiciness, but it was still good. The sea bass ravioli was in such a rich, hearty tomato sauce. It was so fresh and yummy.  We had the fettuccine with pork ragu and skate. The fettuccine portion was very generous. The lemon caper sauce in the skate dish was delish! For dessert we shared the bread pudding and the ricotta gelato with pear and amaretto saronno .  The bread pudding was too soft and had too many currents for my liking. The ricotta gelato was awesome.  It was sweet and creamy and had a tart bite to it. Loved the ambiance of this place.  It's small, simple, and very village -like. Great place to come when you want to actually hear the people you're with.

  4. Po is a charming Italian restaurant in the West Village. I came here for a dinner over restaurant week. I was not overly excited by the restaurant week choices, so I opted for some a la carte items while other people with me went restaurant week.

The wine selection is great, and we had a few bottles of an awesome Rose. The waiter was very friendly and attentive and gave us some great recommendations.

Overrall, we all left content, but I was not blown away by everything. I went with the beet salad (to share) to start and it was actually somewhat bland and then for my entree chose the guinea hen. The bed of pasta it was over did not do it for me at all, again somewhat bland and un-inventive, but the hen itself was very tasty, cooked perfectly, came out hot and had a mix of a sweet taste in with the charred flavoring and worked for me so that was a nice addition after my salad was nothing special.

Other group choices were the black fettuccine, the skate, cod and ravioli. I didn't get into too much detail with them because we were enjoying the evening and all the wine, but everyone left without saying this was an amazing meal, we need to come back, etc.

Also, the white bean bruschetta at the start of the meal was great, it's a small starter that I recommend trying, as the bread is delicious and the beans are packed with flavor.

  5. We enjoyed our Italian dinner.  I haven't been here for a few years.

They still have the beans on baguettes for the table after you order which I like.

They use my favorite bread and they have rearranged their tables more logically creating more space than before without adding square footage.

The Italian food here is nice and simple and prepared fresh.

  6. Absolutely fantastic! I went on a double with Steven , and his boss and her husband. From the moment we walked in (we got there 5-10 mins early) we were taken care of to a T–which didn't cease until we were out the door. They let us try various wines, testing our knowledge haha and then we all split salads to start. Steven and I had the cucumber thing–SO yummy! His boss had the salmon, Steven and her husband had the linguine with clams (their most popular dish) and I have the black fettuccine with mussels, which I do not know why that isn't the most popular dish; it was absolutely superb. Steven and I split the Po sundae to finish the evening, where Barbara and Lowell split the roasted peaches with ice cream–all were incredibly delicious.

We will most definitely be returning ASAP!!!!

  7. I started with the sea bass ravioli and got the white bean ravioli for my entree. They were both really good. I also love the white bean bruschetta they served at the start of the meal.

  8. Cute hole in the wall Italian restaurant.  It's long and narrow, without the most modern décor, but it's somewhat intimate.  I came here for RW Summer 2015 Dinner and got the Organic Peaches (app), Fresh Fettuccini (entrée), and Panna Cotta (dessert).  The Organic Peaches were very unique, with a mix of sweet and salty flavors.  The cheese was pungent in a great way.  The Fettuccini was a tad disappointing, as the meat was overpowering and felt heavy.  It was a huge portion, however, it just didn't taste like anything extraordinary.  I did try some of the Sea Bass Ravioli, which you can opt as an entrée, and it was delicious.  Go for that instead.  Pair with a red wine to wash it all down.  Desserts are always good – Panna Cotta was no exception.  Not suitable for large groups – the sounds from the table of 6 next to us filled the entire restaurant.  Our waiter was very attentive and friendly. Overall nice spot.
