  1. I used to come here all the time when I worked in Jamaica, Queens and the lunch specials were $4.  I was in the nabe and saw the lunch specials were $5 which is still in my budget range. LOL. I ordered the stew chicken, peas and rice. I was disappointed it didnt come with a small side of salad or few plantains but you cant ask for much when you're only paying $5.  The food was good and tasty and I definitely had enough to eat for later.  They remodeled or change the place around because the seating area looks bigger, I will definitely return when I can.

  2. $5.00 Spanish Lunch Specials?! – I'M A FAN!

Their advertisement outside the restaurant is not a bluff. I ordered take-out, the Roasted Chicken with rice and beans. It was amazing and it was a lot of food! By the time I finished, i was having food coma at my desk! The chicken was so tender and juicy yet so flavorful with their special spices. Rice and beans were cooked to perfection – love the taste when it is still burning hot!

Although the restaurant itself does not look attractive but the food was worth every penny! For take-out, just order at the front. The staff behind the counter will serve you. Quick service, they get you in and out in about five minutes.

  3. They have $3 and $5 specials?? Haven't had Dominican food lately so I wanted to try a lil since I was in the area anyway. Inside looked clean and actually pretty spacious. It was after the lunch crowd so it was somewhat empty inside.
$3 and $5 take out specials… Roast pork, Stewed chicken or 1/4 Baked chicken with rice and beans. We got one with roast pork and it's a pretty good serving. Not exactly enough for the 2 of us since L is a big guy, but we also got one chicharron and 2 empanadas, one chicken and one cheese. The chicharron was meaty, still fatty, but I was surprised at how much meat it had. It was definitely better than the ones we've had in Jackson Heights/East Elmhurst. The pork had a very clean flavor.
The roast pork comes with a little crispy skin. The yellow rice is seasoned nicely, really flavorful. Beans are tasty as well. It was $11 for everything, would definitely come back and try the chicken.

  4. 3.5 stars – $5.00 lunch specials and everything tastes homemade.

I usually order take out and love the various menu options.  I never dined here but the restaurant appears medium sized, no frills and moderately clean.  Staff is nice enough and take requests especially when I need my tostones & garlic sauce fix.  Arroz con pollo  for $5 with hot sauce and I'm ready to continue my work day

  5. Cheap, delicious, Dominican food for a fantastic price!  I stopped in here after jury duty and before heading to JFK to grab something to go.

They have $5 lunch specials that is more than enough for two people or two meals.  I got the baked chicken, rice and beans and could barely eat half of it.  Chicken is so tender, it falls right off the bone. Everything was flavorful and delicious.

It's a short walk from the Sutphin BLVD – JFK stop on the E train. Maybe about 7 minutes.

    Ca$h only.

  6. Punta Cana is a nice little super casual Dominican place that serves an awesome portion of food for a great price. The hygiene may be slightly questionable, but I deliberately choose to ignore that in exchange for the tasty hot meal. The lunch deal is great, $5 for a meat, rice, and beans. +$1 for fried plantains.
Absolutely nothing to go out of your way for, but if you live/work in the area, the hot meal is really satisfying. I always get the Pollo gisado, yellow rice, beans, and maduros. The chicken is literally fall off-the-bone tender, and overall everything is pretty delicious.

If you stay to eat, I believe the prices are generally cheaper than if you take it to go. But if you factor in the tip, it probably averages the same. Also, different servers pack your food differently. One woman haphazardly throws food in, while another carefully structures a space-saving pile of food to get even more for your money. It goes without saying I love the latter woman.

I'm also amused that this Dominican place gives you Chinese hot sauce packets.

    Verdict: Great lunch spot.
