  1. Had two great experiences here, so i figure the first one was not a glitch.
Both times we had really great service
First time, I asked if they had eggs Benedict, which they did not on the menu, then the chef came out and said he has never made it at the diner before but will make it for me. He then kept spooning me a never ending supply of fresh hollandais sauce on anything my heart desired. He also came out every 20 minutes to check if we enjoyed everything, the answer: "YES!!"
Second time, exactly a year later, came back and this time ordered the bacon cheeseburger for lunch. The burger was juicy and I had no complaints at all. I don't expect this to be a beyond amazing burger, but it was better by a long shot from most diners, because it was not over cooked and had flavor.
As a side note, my cousin got pizza burger, and something about the sauce gave me a new hope for pizza burgers again. All of us kept spooning her sauce on our meals, cause we all loved it
Ready for my third experience soon.

  2. I love Puritan Restaurant. It was my first time coming here Saturday morning with my bf  and I will surely come back.  The waitress was so friendly and attentive I couldn't ask for anything better.  Also, I really like the fact that they have over 50 choices of omelettes with creative and fun names.  Finally decided to get the feta cheese omelette, french toast and pancakes. Call me simple but with all the selection of omelette toppings I really just wanted feta cheese.  Regardless, that was all I wanted and I was content. Everything was delicious and we ate every single piece of our breakfast.  The bf and I agreed to come here again.

Nothing else to say other than a perfect breakfast on a Saturday morning.

  3. Great local spot, with very friendly staff and delicious classic diner food!

  4. I was visiting Big John (my father) back in the old 'hood, and he was insistent that we stop by his new favorite diner for breakfast. Having grown up in the area, Puritan Restaurant was always oddly off the radar. I've gone by so many times, but we always headed to Vegas Diner, or someplace on 13th Avenue. For some reason, it was recently decided this place would be added to the "diner repertoire," so I tried it alongside the 'rents on a recent Sunday morning.

Puritan is esteemed in the eyes of my father, and likely in those of other locals for their mind-bogglingly long breakfast menu including approximately 50 omelets, each more egregiously overpriced than the next. I took Ryan A's advice and ordered the ($14.95!) spinach, bacon and ricotta omelet, which came with home fries and toast. It was good, and the creamy cheese complemented the smoky bacon and spinach nicely, but c'mon… $15 for an omelet. "What is this, Paw-hk Avenue!?" (as Dad would say). My stepmother ordered their Greek chicken salad which actually looked like the winner (it was enormous and topped with a very generous portion of grilled chicken).

There's an adorable old lady of approximately 139 who walks around refilling coffee, which is a nice touch. We don't mind overpaying to support her salary. The wait staff in general was friendly, if a bit Bensonhurst-whacko, but that is (natch) to be expected. Otherwise, just a typical diner in most respects. With that, yes, the overwhelming omelet choices are terrific, but I'm not amused by the price point since I still think Vegas has more to recommend it.

  5. Though I live walking distance from the Puritan, it was several years before I finally went in. This is partly because they close around 2-3, and sometimes brunch is a really late start.

Now that I've been here a few times, it's safe to say that it rivals the 24 hour diner option not too far away. I'm spoiled rotten with the incredible diner options in my immediate neighborhood.

There are so many omelet options, you could come here every day for 3 months and still not eat everything.

It feels like the kind of neighborhood you heard about back in the day. It's like the last standing relic of the old days.

  6. Omelette's. Breakfast is my favorite.  I get overwhelmed within the menu. Great service.  Sometimes the true sign of a family restaurant is when your son spills his water all over the table because he's trying to drink water from 3 ft away from the table while playing angry birds on my tablet, and the women swarm to clean him and the table up, and then hey make him feel like it never happened;   true family restaurant… no filter for that on Yelp, but this place does it great.  Also, if you like 25 potential coffee refills and an offer to take a cup to go when you leave,  you will love this place.

  7. Another secret gem close to home. You wouldn't notice this little restaurant when walking on 86th Street. Honestly, why wouldn't you go to Outback Steakhouse, across the street, for brunch?

Small and clean restaurant with super friendly staff. I do warn you, if you are indecisive like me, the number of omelettes will be overwhelming. So I settled on a sandwich – the tommy and helen. It was great with pita! The mushrooms and peppers were made well and paired well with the dry chicken. Boy got the veteran omelette; filled with fresh spinach and delicious mushrooms and topped with it as well! The home fries were amazing!

  8. I really wanted to like this place…

I came in around 7AM for breakfast and ordered a bacon egg and cheese sandwich. It was awful.  The eggs were wet and runny, the cheese was oily and processed and I know for a fact that the bacon was left over from the night before and reheated.  The home fries were decent.

The menu is huge.  My server was very nice.  Maybe lunch or dinner is better?
