Quartino Bottega Organica

“Quartino is a good alternative since it's literally a couple storefronts down from Bianca.”

“They are cash or Amex only so be sure to come ahead of time with either.”

“Not my typical choice but I wasn't too concern cause my focus was on the:

Chocolate Soufflé -Winner!!”

  1. I had every intention of enjoying a solo lunch at Siggy's yesterday (love summer Fridays!) but the nauseating "Grade Pending" sign in the window made me search for other options. And that's when I ran into Quartino!

I'm surprised I'd never noticed Quartino before because I've eaten at Siggy's at least 10 times…but I'm glad I finally noticed this small but cute place.

Ambiance: The restaurant was nearly empty at 2pm yesterday (Friday) but I really liked the rustic, quiet environment.

Service: Despite the empty restaurant the service was a bit spotty and I had to catch someone's attention when I was ready to order, when I needed balsamic vinegar, and when I was ready for the check. Maybe this is the Italian way though? I wasn't too bothered since I wasn't in a rush.

Food: I was debating between the salmon w/ rice, or scallops w/ avocado. Ultimately I went with the latter. It wasn't super filling but it was delicious. I would order this again in a heartbeat. The complimentary bread was very dense and a bit dry…didn't love it.

Overall: Quartino is on the expensive side but I'm willing to pay a bit more for sustainable, organic food. I'll definitely return, likely with the rest of the family.

  2. Again, an uncrowded and unhurried brunch that really pleased me.

I love to sit at the bar, when I'm solo, and read their old school New York Times paper, while I munch on their freshly baked rye bread, and bread sticks, with olive oil.

A nice little mimosa, and free wireless, where I didn't have to cajole the password for fear of enemy infiltration.  Relaxing, while the light bathes the outside passers-by.

Two pleasant Italian speaking waitresses made me feel welcome and happy.

Opted for the organic egg with mozzarella on a tasty cross between an English muffin and bagel,  which came with a small healthy salad with tasty dressing, and very small plate of smartly portioned diced and fried potatoes.

People were streaming in by the time I left, but it was never annoyingly crowded.

Nice place for health conscious citizens of the world.

  3. I was looking forward to a tasty but healthy dinner at Quartino.  Our server wasn't very attentive, but I felt that the other staff were aware and make up for it (perhaps the server was in training).  The heirloom tomato, caper, and avocado salad is delicious (heirloom tomatoes speak for themselves).  Unfortunately the entrees lacked flavor.  I ordered the special which was homemade pasta with scallops.  The scallops were tiny and few. The pasta was nice and plentiful, but there was NO flavor.  I had to add salt and cheese to make it appetizing.  My guests even added olive oil to give it flavor.  That night they were out of chocolate soufflé (the one thing I was very excited for), the chocolate fondue for two it's really small – better for one and the flourless cake was good.  Might be a better place for drinks and desserts.

  4. Decent pasta and salads. There is  better in NYC but this place was good. Smaller portions of organic pasta with local ingredients. Nice mellow vibe and cool on a hot day.  I enjoyed our salads and the pasta was tasty.

  5. Wondered in here last weekend with the SO and her visiting parents. There was no brunch line, which was the main criterion, so we were 1/1 and stuck. The girls behind the bar in this little organic eatery were nice, though our main server disappeared for quite a while just when we were most eager to check out.

The food was decent. I got the whole wheat crepe with scrambled eggs. It came with some greens and home fries–a small portion, but we need more of that in this country. But not spectacular.

The bathroom was nondescript: unmarked, with pantry-like doors, and stumped all of us one by one.

It's a cute place but something was missing for me.

  6. The service was friendly, though not particularly attentive, and I like their emphasis on fresh, whole foods, but all the food I ordered was exceedingly bland. I commented to the bartender, who told me that is how all their food is. A restaurant that specializes in bland food? Exactly what the organic movement needs! Given how pricey the food is, I expect it to have some flavor, be prepared in a way more involved than I could throw together at home, and be worth the high price tag attached to it. I do not think I will be back.

  7. I didn't have high expectations for this place since I usually deem these kinds of restaurants as a hipster organic facade. However, I was pleasantly surprised.

My friend and I split the avocado shrimp salad (think it was a special) and the pizza bianca with arugula. Both were great and very flavorful. We also split a bottle of Sauvignon blanc which was okay, but for a $35 bottle I was happy.

Would definitely return, service and food were great, and the restaurant is very charming.

  8. Finally managed to try this place out earlier this past summer for lunch after having wanted to come here for quite some time. I loved the rustic look of the restaurant and as others have mentioned in their reviews, this place is big on sustainability in the ecosystem, hence their organic fare and what I imagine to be repurposed furniture.

They had quite a few different specials going on for lunch, but I was hankering for pasta on this particular day, so I opted for their fettucine avocado dish. I've never had a pasta dish quite like this: the pasta was perfectly al dente, the creamy avocado complimented the pasta, and the whole thing just came together really well in my mouth.

Prices are a bit on the high side, so dining here would be a real treat for me. They only accept American Express cards or cash, so be wary of that. Service was good as well. Would definitely love to come back here soon.
