  1. I finally got to try this place out for brunch a few weeks ago. I was bracing myself for a super long wait time but my friend and I got there around 11:30am on a rainy-ish day so our total wait time was only 17 minutes! #Winning (It also helps to only have 2 people in your party)

We met James Avatar, Queens Comfort's personable, entertaining and funny host who dealt with the line. He asked us which TV show we wanted to be known as and of course my answer was "Gossip Girl" so he was able to keep it interesting during the short wait.

There was a special and unique menu for brunch, with plenty of specials. I opted for the King Creole, which consisted of fried tilapia, mini waffle, poached egg and hollandaise sauce. My friend Drumpf Benedict, consisting of braised pork belly, mashed potato, crunchy brioche toast and the customary poached egg and hollandaise on top. To be honest, I think I enjoyed my friend's dish a tiny bit more, but the one I ordered had a nice delicate flavor.

The King Creole – This came looking beautiful, with cream colored sauce on top of the egg and dappling of orange sauce on the side. There was green onion and diced tomatoes on top and sprinkling of something yummy atop the sauce. The fried tilapia was delicious! It was both crispy and light. The tilapia was also well seasoned. I really enjoyed the waffle underneath the tilapia. It was slightly crunchy and sweet. The flavors of the waffle and tilapia went perfectly together.

Drumpf Benedict – This was a more savory, hearty entree. I loved the taste of the pork belly – tender, juicy, wonderful! The mashed potato, bacon and egg all mingled together well with the pork belly, making this meal incredibly yummy with several layers of distinct and amazing bites.

Then we had dessert of birthday cake bread pudding… Sounds delectable right? Unfortunately, it wasn't really what my friend and I were expecting and we wish we had gone with the Captain Crunch Cake Donut. I like my bread pudding to be warm and gooey, but the dessert we got was neither. It was just a dense square cake of marbleized colors with sprinkles and a ton of whipped cream on top. It was still a little warm though and it tasted decent, though a bit too sweet.

Overall, I had a wonderful time at this restaurant and there was great service, as well as enjoyable music and atmosphere. I would definitely come back for dinner to try out other menu items and hopefully get better dessert options!

  2. I can see the allure of this place.. it hits home on childhood nostalgia. They showcase plenty of memorabilia from classics like Gremlins, E.T., Transformers, etc. and were even playing Animaniacs on the projection screen in the back.
The good: 1.) Service is super friendly and everyone was very accommodating to my 1 yr old son. 2.) BYOB for those who want boozy brunch.
The bad: 1.) The wait! I didn't wait long as it was a holiday weekend, but on normal day, I would not want to wait more than 30 mins. 2.) Donut Diva wasn't there when we went! Even though looking at the pictures of these sugary donuts make my teeth ache,  I was still looking forward to bringing some ridiculously indulgent donuts home..  3.) Cash only but you can find a Duane Reade across the street for a Chase ATM.
The in between: The food.. Yes, there's a big menu with plenty of comfort food, but they were overall average in taste for me.
    – Captain Crunch French Toast Balls – this was just OK for me, but if this was made from Cinnamon Toast Crunch this would be 10x better. Liked the small bits of bacon drenched in syrup.
    – Disco Tots – this was a skip.. It's pretty basic and something you can easily make/heat up at home, just throw some cheese on your tots. There was minimal gravy on our order. Our app actually came out after our main so we ended up leaving most of it untouched. They ended up not charging us for it considering it came out way after our entrees.
    – Cornflake Crusted Chicken & Waffle – Chicken could have used more seasoning but tasted better if you combine with a bite of waffle and syrup. It's a big piece of chicken so share if you can.
    – Breakfast Burrito – huge! About half size bigger than a chipotle sized burrito which is huge as is. This is filled with eggs, sausage, fries, cheese, and some awesome sriracha aioli. This was my favorite but then again, I really like breakfast sausage..
    – American Hardcore Benedict – The bacon was super well done yet hard to chew, not crunchy at all. I only enjoyed the biscuit from this dish.
    – "South By Southwest" Benedict – Flavor is great but dayammm is this a heavy breakfast. I'm glad we shared this as it can easily keep two people full just b/c it's so heavy.
    – "The Pig Mac" – The pork was thin but it was a pretty big piece. The meat that wasn't covered by the bun was a tad too dry for me, you need to get a bite full of bread, sauce, pickles and onions for it to be good.
    – Coffee – pretty weak, but then again you don't come here expecting good coffee.  OJ – Straight outta the carton.

Overall, I would come back, especially for the donuts I missed out on but I don't want to wait longer than 30 minutes though I'm not sure that's possible..

  3. I've been trying to go here for a while now, but the lines are always so ridiculous for brunch.

My friends invited me here for lunch on a Friday and we were seated right away.
We brought our own bottle of champagne and asked for a pitcher of OJ and we made our own mimosas.

The menu scared me. Everything, and I mean EVERYTHING, was deep fried or covered in bacon and red meat. I know, I know- "Queens COMFORT", but still- you can have one grilled option, no? Just one?

Anyway, I was in between a breakfast sandwich or the veggie burger and asked the server for help and he was a wee bit too sarcastic for me. I laughed along but it was a little douchey…

I went for the veggie burger with a side salad and it was delicious!!! Literally only giving it four stars because of the food, otherwise it would have been a three. I'm definitely going back for the veggie burger.

  4. I have been wanting to check out Queens Comfort for some time now, and I finally got a chance for brunch on a Sunday morning. We arrived at the restaurant around 11:30 and placed our name on a list, manned by Avatar. Avatar, was my favorite part of the restaurant. To get on the list, you stand in a line and Avatar asks you a question which you have to provide an answer to, while he cracks jokes left and right. Your answer, is how he will seat you at the restaurant.

After several laughs and waiting only 15 minutes, we were seated at the bar. The restaurant itself has the most amazing atmosphere. Filled with old school toys and Mr. Nanny playing in the background, the restaurant just beams with character.  If only the food matched. I shared the chicken and waffle and the breakfast burrito. The chicken tasted plastic-y and I didn't even eat it. The waffle was sweet, but again nothing special. The breakfast burrito, the better of our two orders, still lacked any sort of flavor.

I loved this restaurant for Avatar and the decor, but the food was so bland and cheap tasting that unfortunately I don't think I would return. Sigh – so disheartening, I wanted to love this place but the food quality is just so subpar.

    Cash Only, BYOB.

  5. Aside from the long wait, the food was good and staff is hip and friendly, especially Avatar who takes your name on the list outside and tries to spice things up while you wait. There is no privacy in the restaurant as everyone is on top of each other, but the waiters are on top of their stuff. They came quick to take our orders and the food came out quick. We ordered the chicken and waffles, atomic balls, disco tots and the pig mac. All were good. My husband and I were super full after our meals with leftovers. One advice, come early or make reservations so you won't have to wait super long. Nice experience overall.

  6. Loved it here! If you're taking a big party for Sunday Brunch, make sure to come super early! They'll seat you at the front of the restaurant and on a nice tall table.

I had the Chicken and Waffles and I loved it! The crust came apart from the chicken but it was so crunchy that I couldn't complain. All of the appetizers are also hits (if it's some kind of bomb, it'll definitely be great!)

  7. Hadn't been here in a while, so came here with my girlfriend for lunch. She said the vegan burger here was the best vegan burger she's ever had.  As a non-vegan, I don't really have a reference point, but it was pretty delicious.

My burger (the one with fried jalapeños) was quite good — ordered it medium and it was juicy and flavorful.  The fries were just eh — crinkle-cut (so, likely frozen) and not a lot of flavor. Needed to put a lot of salt and ketchup (and I usually never eat ketchup).

Service was great.  Will definitely come back.

  8. Came here on a Saturday around 1pm.

Service: The gentleman at the door was super friendly and although he told us the wait would be around 20-30 mins  We were sited in under 10 minutes. Our waitress was polite and attentive.

Ambiance: Busy, loud and loving it. Place is not large and the decoration is chaotic in a cool way. The DJ plays 90s and 00s music with some edm here and there. He was really good. The crowd is mostly 20s and early 30s.

Food: I got the Down by Law and omg so good. The biscuit is so buttery. I really recommend you get a dish that comes with a biscuit. I also tasted my friends dishes, Hobbits Salty Pork Benedict and the South by Southwest and they were both quite good as well.
They get a minus one star because my friend wanted the crab cake but they did not have it.
As others mentioned the place is BYOB and there is a liquor store less than two blocks away.

This is not the type of place you come to have a romantic date or have a deep conversation. With that said, the energy super fun and positive. I wish it would turn into a party brunch. I would love to return for dinner.
