  1. My friend invited me to this restaurant during my recent visit to NY. Like a lot of  locations in the upper east side, this is conveniently located near public transport but finding non-garage parking is tricky. The restaurant is cozy and the decor is modern with middle-eastern influences. Typical of a lot of Manhattan restaurants, tables are small but seating is comfortable. Service was fast and friendly, and the food was excellent – really good flavors and generous portions.

  2. This is a very good restaurant. I've only had Persian food once before.Although I've had Turkish and Afghan food numerous times.I started with a cocktail which I rarely do in a restaurant(too cheap).I had a martini with pomegranate juice and I liked it.They serve bread with a yogurt and I think a cilantro based sauce. There is a useful spice on the table which I think is Sumac. For appetizers we split the Green Stuffed Pepper(lamb and rice)  which is excellent and highly recommended. We also had Sambuesh , good fried dumplings. As a main course I had Ghourmeh Sabzi, a beef stew with a pronounced dried lemon flavor and very green color.I loved it.The waiter who was very nice seemed to think it  might be too green and dried lemony. But I feared not because A)I've seen dried lemons in Kaluystan and other places and B)Melissa Clark from the New York Times keeps raving about them.My dining companion had a good Lamb shank .i washed it down with Sierra Nevada and water and finished with Turkish Coffee. For dessert we had Baklava and some form of doughnut, all good !

I had dinner here on a weekday night.Service is efficient and congenial as well as fairly prompt.Although I should note we hit early because we were going to a show.Prices are reasonable. The place is a little cramped and plain but that was of no importance.

  3. Average rating for average food. The Saffron ice cream was perhaps the worst thing we purchased here. It tasted much more like Kulfi Indian ice cream.

The doogh was just as bad too. Way too watery and EXTREMELY salty to the point we couldn't swallow it down anymore.

The koobideh was decent, but the spices weren't as particularly strong as I've had at other places.

The restaurant itself is extremely cramped, but hey, it's New York. Can't complain. Menu prices also followed the New York lifestyle as well.

  4. I came here with a group of colleagues for lunch Wednesday, and had an enjoyable experience.

Ordering shares of the gormeh sazi, mirza ghasemi, salad olvie, and kashk bademjoon to start, I barely had room for the polo, fesenjoon, and kabab that was to follow. The appetizers were all full of flavor, and the naan that accompanied them tasty at that. While the meat in the fesenjoon was tender, the sauce itself was a bit too sweet for my taste; however, the kabab was delicious.

For dessert we ordered baklava and Persian tea, which was a sweet way to end the meal.

Furthermore, both the service and the ambiance were nice.

All in all, Ravagh is as good as it gets.

  5. Solid, well-portioned, flavorful Persian food. I've had a lot of Persian food having lived in LA for 4 years. This is among the better that I've tasted. We had a really early dinner so were the only ones there. This restaurant actually has two long seating rooms, which I liked because it felt more intimated. We sat at the table right by the open sliding doors. Very New York.

In any case, we just shared a beef stew dish and a chicken shish kebab. Both were wonderful. The beef stew had lentils, and came with a healthy serving of rice. The chicken shish kebab was large, and the chicken was moist and tender, pre-sliced. Instead of rice for this dish, I got the grilled veggies. Absolutely the right choice. The zucchini, peppers, tomato, and onions were perfectly grilled. Bravo.

All the meals came with home-made flatbread and two dipping sauces. I was starving, so this was perfect.

Overall a successful meal with good prices for what you get – which is high quality.

  6. This place is always packed. Probably because the food is fresh and authentic. The service is not as good as the food. The waiters always seem distracted and I've been there when it's crowded and not so crowded.

The chicken kebabs are really good. I've also gotten the salmon and we have tried steak too. Their Mediterranean chopped salad with chicken is also one of my favorites. They give you so much chicken! Really good bang for your buck.

  7. As an Iranian I can definitely recommend this place. Great food. Their kebab Soltani is a great mix of shish kebab and minced meat kebab. Rice is also great and service is decent if you don't go there when it is very busy. In fact, my first visit to this branch of Ravagh was quite disappointing: we had to wait for over an hour for our food to arrive purely because there was a big group of people sitting next to us. So avoid this place during busy hours but definitely visit for good quality food.

  8. Since Nowruz is coming soon, I decided to eat at a Persian/Iranian restaurant with my buddy. The Red Lentil Soup is delicious with subtle flavors of spices. The Kebob dishes are served with white Basmati rice, grilled onion & tomato. I ordered the Vegetarian Kebob and substituted the white rice for the Zereshk Polo: barberries, currants & saffron mixed with Basmati rice. I really like the rice, it has a lemony taste which makes it appetizing.

The Albaloo Polo: sweet & sour cherries mixed with Basmati rice is sweet. The cherries are plump and moist.
