  1. I came back recently and it just wasn't as good as I remember. OR maybe the last time I came here, I was starving! Same hole in the wall, but is it just me or has the brightness faded? Ordered a bunch of tacos, but wasn't too impressed. Carnitas, al pastor, tripa and chorizo. Eh, just ok. The textures were all a little off, too dry or oily. I ended up ordering the special tacos, but honestly don't know what set them apart from the larger tacos, not really worth it. I think I'm just gonna stick to my usual spot for tacos…unless a new place opens up!

  2. A 25 minute wait for 6 little tacos on a Tuesday afternoon….was not even that busy. I was only crossing fingers that I would not get a ticket for parking at the hydrant right out front. Phew, I didn't.

Thought it would've been a smooth and easy take out if I had an easy order. Two of each: Chicken, Spicy Pork, and Beef. Got home, stomach growling and everything, after all this, I take a bite into dry pieces of chicken. Okay, I still got my all time fave, the Spicy Pork, not even spicy. My last hope, oily beef. Not even that, they were rolled up in parchment paper, which it got stuck on to the tacos after being steamed in the take out container along with the grease from the beef.

For now, I'll just say it was an off day.

  3. Rico Suave has his own taco shop. It's really very good! You're gonna love it! He also owns Suave shampoo by the way.

What to get: Arabes tacos, Huaraches, and Horchata
    What else: Ricooooooo. Suaaaaaaaaaave.

I'll be brief, like a pair of boxers.

The horchata here is fantastic. They make a special kind of taco called "Arabes" which is supposed to be Middle Eastern influenced. It's sliced off a big thingy, sort of like Pastor. It tastes great. They smother it in very unusual sauce. I love it. You can also get other types of Mexi-stuff here such as Huaraches. These thick, delicious thingamijiggies have a very greasy yummy squidgy base and are like heaven. They're even better than tacos. Try one. Wash it down with some Horchata. Thank me later.

This is some of the best Mexican food in Brooklyn – on its day.

I think that's what the main issue is. I've eaten here 3 times. Once was phenomenal. Once was mediocre. And once was pretty damn good. All three times I ordered similar things (tacos, huaraches and horchata). The main inconsistency is the Horchata. One day it'll be one of the best I've ever tasted. Another day it's not really very good. But you know… if you get it on a good day. You're in luck.

And if it were a "De Gallo" kind of place, it'd be Pico's Tacos. If it were full of smokers it'd be Nico-tine's Tacos. If it sold candy, it'd be Lico-rice's Tacos. And if it were a sex shop, it'd be D*ck-O's Tacos. And probably way more popular. Alas, it just sells food. But it's damn good food.

  4. My new favorite taco place!

There's a lot of seating, but I wouldn't recommend it since it will take you forever to get your food. Just call ahead and pick it up.

The meats were flavorful and well made. Just get one of each taco and you can go from there. The regular tacos are the smaller size, and the super tacos are just bigger.

I haven't tried the rice dishes or tortas, but if they just put the meat they had on the tacos on top or rice or bread, I'm sure you can't go that wrong.

  5. Things that make this joint my favorite spot

    1. Hole in the wall; authentic
    2. Guacamole sauce is like ice cream and I drain my food with it.
    3. Cheap. I order so many things on the menu and the bill is still so cheap.

Favorite things to order on the menu

    1. Steak tostada
    2. Steak taquitos

Note: when it's busy, the wait for the food can be long. So long that you get delirious and angry. Once food hits the table, you become barbaric.

  6. This hole in the wall is great – just be careful what steak meat you get for a torta.  The torta was delicious – huge sandwich with cheese, avocado, etc but the steak meat that came with it was both breaded and chewy….weird…definitely going back but will prob stick with chicken, pork, or make sure it is carne asada.

  7. Authentic, legit Mexican restaurant. Only stopped in for a bite but wouldn't mind going back if I was ever in the area. I had an Al Pastor taco and it was quite delicious, really good flavors. The service is slow but polite, the vibe is very casual and family-oriented. Only real drawback is that we went on the hottest day of the summer and they apparently don't have AC so it was a sweatbox in there.

  8. I liked Ricos. Imagine if you took a hole-in-the-wall place and then just made it a full size restaurant. Take some old school pizzeria booths. Throw in some raggedy menus and a TV playing Univision telenovelas. And also some waitstaff that speak unintelligible English, and you've got the makings of a pretty good taco place.

The steak enchiladas in the verde sauce were pretty damn good. Be warned that unlike other verde sauces, theirs is actually spicy! The menu says that entrees come with your choice of two out of four things (rice, salad, fries and beans), but when we asked, our waitress just said it came with rice and salad, and we would have to pay extra for beans. The salad had a couple of slices of avocado though, so it had that going for it.

The tacos were also pretty good. We had the taco al pastor (doner-style meat) and the cow tongue one (which was super tender).

With two drinks (they don't serve beer), our total bill was just a little over $21, which is pretty, pretty cheap. Be forewarned that the "chocomilk" was basically just milk with Hershey's powder.

Service was a bit slow, but other than that, no complaints. I'd glady return.
