“I've tried a bunch of dishes here including the fish tacos, avocado fries (a little too salty sometimes), shrimp and garlic, and a variety of enchiladas.”

“My boyfriend got the steak and shrimp salad and that, as well, was really tasty.”

“LOVE the free chips/salsa but definitely recommend getting the guacamole as well.”

  1. Came here on a weeknight and was saddened at the fact that the chicken and shrimp salad that I ordered came with only four pieces of shrimp, five pieces of sliced grilled chicken, and was thrown on a bed of lettuce with a couple pieces of sliced tomato and avocado. Now, I'm not a salad connoisseur, but I wished it was at least tossed! I literally ate the chicken and shrimp and left most of the lettuce. I will say that the shrimp was grilled to perfection, and I did try the steak which was perfectly prepared. That's the only reason why this place gets three stars.

  2. We had just come from Staten Island and making our drive up home. Hubby and I were not sure if we should have dinner in the city or close to home. So we decided we should go to Brooklyn instead. My husband wanted to know if I was up to having Mexican and I said of course.

So we come to my husband's old stomping grounds…

So here we are… Santa Fe is cute and funky in a really cool way. There was music playing and Santa Fe did not just stick to
one particular music style, they had some funky stuff from the 70's and current music. Our waiter -Rodolfo, handed us a $55 menu. In it you get either
    *a 1/2 pitcher (I think) OR 2 Margaritas
    *2 entrees
    * 1 appetizer.
For $55, you really can't go wrong. In addition, my Shrimp in Ajillo was slamming!!! And my husband's steak was great. The whole ambience was fantastic. Our guy Rodolfo was extremely attentive and super friendly as well as the rest of the guys there.
We will definitely be back because the whole atmosphere was great. Thank you so much Rodolfo.

  3. I went to Santa Fe one night around 11 pm. To my surprise they were still serving food. We were seated towards the back which was away from the other tables that were a bit louder. We had 3 children with us.

The waiter approached quickly for our orders. We mostly ordered appetizers. Coconut shrimp, avocado fries, side of vegetables. For the kids chicken fingers (chopped up boneless, fried chicken pieces) and fries.  The food came out relatively quick and it was hot. The coconut shrimp were good and I enjoyed the cilantro sauce that they wet served with. The shrimp were large but only came with 4. The side of vegetables helped to fill me up ($3). They were cooked in a butter sauce that was pretty flavorful.

My tropical margarita was just ok.  It tasted full of alcohol but with little juice (mango). It was strong. I would have appreciated more of a balance.

Overall a decent experience. The table was rocking a bit which I found annoying. The loud people next to us kind of dimmed the experience but they were enjoying themselves. I would try this place again.

  4. I've been here a few times now.

Santa Fe is good but I'm not sure if I would want to come back.  The shrimp looked delicious but it was a bit too charred and almost tasted like it had wasabi on it.  My taste buds were confused.   The space is nice and service was very good.  The prices were a tab bit expensive but I was impressed with the presentation of the dishes.  Very pretty that I just wanted to take pictures of everything.  I'm not really sure how to classify this restaurant.  Maybe modern Mexican food?

  5. When the most frequent reason you enter an establishment is because your mother wants to go there, it's not a good sign of the place, but an excellent indication of what a great son you are.

Santa Fe isn't awful, but it's far from wonderful.

The place has several things going on for it. Location! Corner spot, right on seventh. Not that hard to get to either if traveling by train. It's also a pretty nice atmosphere. Good looking venue. I like their decor. Prices are pretty good. The rest though falls flat.

Speaking of flat, their drinks do not impress me. None of their specialty drinks did anything for me. Last time I was in there, they didn't even have their happy hour going on. I went on Cinco De Mayo, and was doing a crawl of a bunch of the Mexican restaurants. Not only didn't they offer any deals that day, like most places, they canceled their happy hour.

The food is bland. The enchiladas barley had any taste. Their free chips are free for a reason. The guac is nothing to rave about. All in all, I was quite disappointed by the food. I felt I could have gotten the same quality of food at a low end fast food Mexican joint.

With all the amazing options for Mexican around. You could do better.

  6. This restaurant might not be the fanciest, but it's definitely worth a visit. The atmosphere is casual and inviting. Try to grab a comfy booth in the back for a more intimate meal. The bar is large and the bathrooms are clean.

Staff: lovely, inviting, sweet. Everyone was great and made the meal enjoyable.

Food: the prices are right and portions are perfect. The fish tacos are good when they are on special. I loved the chicken mole enchiladas- shredded chicken and cheese rolled in thin tortillas and slathered in an earthy and chocolatey sauce; you can't go wrong here.

I wasn't a fan of the complimentary tortilla chips and salsa- the chips were oily and the salsa was too sweet for my taste. Either way, I see I'll be back.

  7. I would have given them 4 stars if they had unlimited iced tea, I never heard of a restaurant charging per glass for iced tea good thing I only had 2 at $3 a glass. Besides that I do enjoy this place it was one of my go to restaurants when I lived in Park Slope. The mole was delicious.  Their salsa is yummy and the service was good.

  8. A solid 3.5 stars.

The food isn't anything mind-blowing, but it is a good place to have a catch-up with friends over a few drinks.

    FOOD:
They have pretty big portions here! I'd definitely say that you get your money's worth (not that anything here is too expensive). There were three of us at the table, and we didn't get to finish anything.
    – Chips & Salsa: this came complimentary. Again, it was a generous serving. The chips were crispy and the salsa wasn't too chunky, just how I like it.
    – Calamari: pretty good portion for an appetizer. It could've been crispier, in my opinion. The sauce had a slight kick to it.
    – Chimichanga: Not mine, but I will say that it came with two to an order, topped with guac and  with a side of rice and beans.
    – Supreme Nachos: nachos for dinner, yes. They're basically deconstructed tacos anyway, right? These nachos really area supreme. I could barely see where the chips actually were because there were so many toppings. Downside? Soggy chips.
    – Steak & Shrimp Salad: one of us had to be healthy…ish
    – Flan: didn't try it, but it did look as flan should?
    – Coconut Cake: actually pretty good. It wasn't too sweet, and the cake was nice and airy.

And OF COURSE, we had maragaritas with our meal. I tried the tropical (mango and guava flavors) and the frozen peach margaritas. There's a good amount of alcohol in there, without compromising the taste! However, my friend did try the blueberry one and it was a little too acidic for her liking. After a couple rounds, we got a free round on them! How could we say no?

    SERVICE:
Pretty great service. Our waters were full, the server was attentive and our food came out pretty quickly. Some free alcohol always helps as well. One of my friends is a regular here, and her family is now friends with the staff. I like a place that treats their returning customers well.
