  1. My go to place for soup dumplings and other Chinese food. There's never a wait and the food is  pretty good! I always get pork soup dumplings, Shanghai style pan fried noodles, and scallion pancakes. I like going to this place for the pan fried noodles because they have red vinegar to put on top if you ask. Next door, Shanghai cafe doesn't have the red vinegar so I always felt like I was missing something. Another plus to this place is that they accept credit cards! Most places in Chinatown tend to be cash only.

  2. Some dishes are delicious and some are just disgusting. Their soup dumpling is really so so and I wasn't really expecting something out of this world. That wonton with spicy sauce is really good thou.

I guess they do take reservation on a Saturday night around 7PM however you better order a lot because their waiters are so rude and zero patient. If you don't know what you want, make sure you do or you are going to be rushed when ordering. As for the service, I won't expect much from this place. All they want is for you to order, eat and get out. If you stay around chatting or do stupid stuff like asking for a new plate or for napkins or even asking for water, you are being an annoyance for the waiter.

Anyway, we will start with the good food. Wonton as mention before will be good. That pork casserole will do too as well as their noodle is not bad. As for the bad stuff, their chef sucks. That fried shrimp is about the worst I had. Take my advise and do stay away from anything fried or chef special.

  3. This C-Town restaurant is nothing fancy but it's clean and a bit more modern than the competition.  Their Soup Dumplings are excellent.   The tasty soup broth inside is best as soon as they're brought to your table but be careful, it's hot liquid inside. Pleased with the double cooked pork for lunch last week.  Would go back to try other lunch specials which are all reasonably priced.  They have a large Asian clientele, the hallmark sign of a good Chinese restaurant.

  4. Soup dumplings sans soup!  Kinda dry! Rice cakes with chicken was good, nothing to write home about. The jelly fish and tendon appies were good, kinda just a little boring. Service was okay. Not on my list to come back, unfortunately.

  5. Yum yum in my tum tum. I've been here a few times now and it has become my regular place for my friends and I to dine in chinatown. You can tell that they really try with their decor (they put up decorations for various holidays) and for a restaurant in chinatown, their service is not half bad. Oh yeah, the food is not half bad itself as well. I've tried a few things from their menu and here are my recommendations:

Sheng Jian Bao (Fried Pork Dumplings): Order it. You won't regret it. It's slightly crispy on the outside but still very juicy in the inside. I always get multiple orders of this when I come.
Soup Dumplings: Not the best in the neighborhood but not bad. They also give 8 soup dumplings in comparison to 6 like the other places
Pork Rice Cake: Another one of my favorites. The rice cakes were flavored and the vegetables clinged onto the rice cakes for a yummy combination.
Beef Tendon: Order this as an appetizer if you like spicy food. It has a nice "Ma la" spicy twang to it while you eat.
Sesame rice ball: I was told that they make it in house and it shows. The outside was chewy and doesn't stick to your teeth and the black sesame oozed out from the balls.

Would I come back here again? Of course! There are so many options for Shanghainese food in chinatown and somehow shanghai heping has become my to-go place. It's probably the combination of yummy food and good service.

  6. Great spot for food in Chinatown. It was not really as greasy as some other places and the service was fast and polite. The restaurant is clean and has an "A" rating. Might be our new spot….

  7. Come for the soup dumplings, stay for the lo mein. It's true what they say: the soup dumplings here are as delicious, if not more so, than the ones you'll wait an hour for at Joe's Shanghai. Piping hot and super fresh, they're just right. What they don't tell you is that everything else at this spiffy Chinatown haunt is just as good, especially the noodle dishes. Their beef lo mein is perhaps the best I've ever had, in fact. Thick, seemingly hand made noodles, salty sauce, thick slices of beef and lots of veggies, it's heaven in a plastic takeout container. I like to add some of the black vinegar that comes with the dumplings for a little acidic kick, but it's definitely not necessary.

They don't do delivery, but if you order for pick up they'll have your food ready within minutes.

  8. Very underwhelmed by the whole experience. The selection was good. I ordered the soup dumplings, fried dumplings and dong po rou.  True to its name they were made in a Shanghai style.

The service wasn't rushed which is good. However I didn't feel like it was that great either.

Overall it was not bad but I think I might have hyped it up in my head based on the other reviews.
