  1. I'm honestly shocked at the low overall score this place has–I went this past weekend and thought it was great!

I will say that I went for a late dinner on a Sunday evening, so maybe the service was better than it usually is, but our server was attentive and had great recommendations.

The food was standard fare for a trendy Brooklyn spot, but the COCKTAILS, specifically the "cool leatherette," were amazing. Truly my favorite cocktail I've ever ordered in Brooklyn. The design of the building itself is also great–HUGE interior with skylights/great decor. I'm sure it's gorgeous in there during the day.

  2. I was visiting a relative in the area and we came here for Easter brunch. The highlight of this place is definitely the environment in which you get to eat. Everything is clean, and new, and there's an enormous skylight that lets you look into the sky. The service is fine, and the food was OK. We all sampled each other's plates and I liked the egg sandwich the best. My grits with shrimp was underwhelming to be honest. My wife got the Sister's Tart, which had potential to be better, but it was a little overdone. All that being said, I know I made the food seem only mediocre, but really, the decor make up for it and have an extremely inviting experience. I wish more restaurantors took as much patience with the look of their establishment as the owners of Sisters do.

  3. I came here on a Saturday night with friends and was wow'd at how gorgeous the interior is. It was a little confusing though, because it seemed like some people were having an intimate dinner, whereas in the back, it was a straight up bar. We made ourselves comfortable at an empty table in the very back (sorry if that wasn't okay!) and enjoyed the cocktails we ordered. I absolutely loved mine, although I don't remember what it was called. Somewhat pricey (definitely not a dive bar), but I felt like it was good value.

I'd love to be back, especially with my sister (sorry that's not even trying).

  4. This place used to be a hardware store. Now it's a bougey Brooklyn bar/restaurant. Let's see how the two stack up:

    DECOR
Big win for the restaurant. The hardware store was dark and cramped. The restaurant is Art. High ceilings (seriously, where did those come from? Did the hardware store have an attic?), gorgeous inlaid wood and tile work, plants everywhere, skylights…based on decor alone, I would live here if I could.

SERVICE Hardware store by a landslide. If you came in and wandered around for a while, they'd eventually notice you and ask what you needed. Then they'd help you find it. At the restaurant, you can sit at a table for forty minutes starving your face off without any of the waitstaff coming over to check on you. Even if all they're doing is wandering around aimlessly because it's super early in the brunch shift and the restaurant is still mostly empty, begging the question of why the F it's taking them 40 minutes to make your eggs in the first place.

    HAVING WHAT YOU WANT
The hardware store had a lot of stuff! If you needed to fix something in your home, they had the thing you needed to fix it. They sold paint and plumbing and lighting and electrical stuff and, of course, hardware. I think they even had toilet seat covers.

The restaurant also has a lot of stuff. At least according to their menu. But they don't have decaf coffee, and they don't have the tea you want (even though it's on the menu), and none of this would be a big deal if you didn't also have to wait 40 minutes for an egg while the waitstaff walked around twiddling their thumbs.

    DELICIOUS FOOD
The hardware store did not have any delicious food. Unfortunately, the food at the restaurant is also only sub-delicious. My chilaquiles were basically nachos: good, but nothing special. They were also stacked high on a tiny little plate, making it difficult to mash the chips around and get everything nice and soggy without flinging pieces of tomato everywhere. So basically, it was dry tortilla chips with some other food on them. Totally could have lived with this if they hadn't taken forty minutes to arrive, but by the time they got there I was super hangry and this dish just wasn't trying hard enough to appease me.

    NOT BEING FULL OF DOUCHEBAGS
    Ummmmm hardware store.

So yeah. Even though it's really pretty and maybe I just caught them on a bad day, I kind of wish this place was still a hardware store.

  5. I think this place opened up recently and seems to have a spate of mediocre reviews. Such is the case when a business is working out the kinks, but sister, the kinks are already worked out at Sisters.

Arrived here last night for dinner. From the outside, I was worried the space would be cramped and dank. There didn't seem to be too many front windows. Boy was I wrong. The entire ceiling above you as you enter is one huge skylight. Amazing. Beautiful.

I had an IPA on tap and started with the brussels. They came out in like a minute, which means they probably had just been sitting out for awhile, which isn't the greatest feeling, but they were pretty tasty. They had some sort of sweet and sour sauce on them.

I also had the burger with bacon and cheese. It was a solid burger. My server was kind, but as I looked around, all of the staff was men! Where are the sisters? Possibly the owners? Anyway, enjoy this classic by Irving Berlin.

    Sisters, sisters/
There were never such devoted sisters,/
Never had to have a chaperone, no sir,/
I'm there to keep my eye on her/

  6. Window ceiling, part brick, part marble walls with wooden details at the bar–creating a bright,  sun-lit, clean look in this beautiful space. I sat at the bar and ordered the Sister's tart. Flaky puff pastry, mushrooms, and a mornay sauce (light, cheesy, savory) complemented with a plate of arugula drizzled in balsamic vinegar? Idk, it was delicious. Mimosas were yum with what seemed to be freshly made orange juice at the bar. Come here for a cute space and a light and tasty brunch. I'd like to return for dinner because I spied a veggie burger. Yay

  7. We visited Sisters for lunch on a snowy weekday and found it to be a very enjoyable experience.

Service is very very slow here–so plan accordingly. We weren't in a rush and the place was fairly empty but still took us around 90 minutes to eat, drink, order, and pay so probably not the best place for a quick bite.

This aside, we loved everything about this place! It's absolutely gorgeous and unlike any bar/restaurant I've been to. They put a ton of detail into the design and it shows. We orders some brunch drinks (mimosas and Bloody Mary) and they were freshly made and delicious. The lunch menu food wise was pretty small but there was definitely something for every type of diner. We opted for the kale Caesar salad, grilled cheese, and veggie burger. Prices were generally $10-$15 so very reasonable. The food took a great while but appeared to be made fresh from scratch and was tasty.

This place looks to turn into more of a music venue in the evenings–they have a larger room in the rear to accommodate these sort of events–so I imagine the vibe is quite different then. I would like to come back simply to enjoy the atmosphere they've created here!

  8. Twas one of those nights. A subtle fall chill in the air, while sweet summer was waiting to leave us New Yorkers in the cold. My newlywed friend, who suggested we meet at Sisters, was also leaving NYC for good, so I needed something sweet and strong to help numb my emotions.

Sat at the bar and started with the margarita, which was a fine drink, but not nearly as complex as my second drink, the super fine, super creative and super dark "Cool Leatherette". Every sip was a tiny explosion of flavor: ginger, balsamic vinegar, and rye. Ah-ma-zing! I've been thinking about it since I've had it. Really plotting my next secret rendezvous with it. The Idris Elba of cocktails looks like dark chocolate milk to some (I took many pictures of it on my phone from different angles and showed them to at least three people), but to me it was and still is the sexiest (in looks and taste) drink I've had thus far.

The duck rillettes, the only thing we ate here, were also good.

The bartenders were friendly, especially after I ordered the "Cool leatherette."
