  1. Jumping on the wagon here, to give some dap to the Healthy Corner juice bar inside Smiler's.

This place is clean, affordable (for NYC standards), and the people are friendly. I especially love their acai bowls, which is probably the best version I've found in the city so far. Just for the record, NYC is really freaking lacking in good acai bowls. Anyway, the acai bowls here deserve some love!  I've tried the coconut bowl, garden bowl, peanut butter bowl, berry bowl and hawaiian bowl, all of which are great. The juices and smoothies are fresh and great too, and they're happy to make substitutions unlike a lot of other juice bars.

    Neighborhood gem for sure!

  2. Three orders: 1 peppered turkey sandwich – 3 stars; 1 banana-strawberry smoothie – 4 stars; 1 bag of chips – 1 star.

The bag of chips has dust and dirt on it – the chips themselves are fine though.  However, I was about to buy a quart of milk when the attendant stopped me and told me it was spoiled. Nice that he stopped me, but not cool that there's spoiled milk for sale.

I'll be back for the acai bowl.. I don't know where the sell them though, maybe its a breakfast thing.

  3. Really fresh and healthy acai bowls, made fast and to go and portion was big! Loved the granola and honey bee pollen on top. They also deliver and give you a stamp every time you get something and after 9 you get one free.

  4. Got an acai bowl (Berry Acai bowl). It was ok – too watery for my tastes. They use a blender to blend up the acai with soy, blueberries, etc. whereas I prefer when it's thicker and tastes more like a sorbet. Price is solid at $8 but the bowl itself isn't large. Good for lunch if you're not that hungry. The folks were nice and store was clean – it has a neighborhood feel and I liked that aspect.

  5. This is a review of their juice bar.  I LOVE it here.  Unlike other juice places (like the carts) where you question the cleanliness of their produce, this place is SUPER CLEAN. You can see the produce that they're using, and everything is clean and fresh.

Not only that, but you can literally get juices for almost half the price of a Juice Generation juice.  Their juice and smoothie menu has a lot of variety, and they allow you to make some substitutions.

I generally get their green juice (and substitute ginger for lemon). It's delicious.

They also have a punch card, which will give you a free juice after 10 juices.

If you live/work/walk by this area, check the juice bar out!

  6. The "healthy corner" is hella healthy. I was recovering from a bit of a hangover and I was trying to detoxify my body, so I sent my boyfriend to Smiler's to pick up a moonwalk smoothie and a Hawaiian acai bowl. He came back with two extra smoothies. The drink was alright, a very large portion size when compared to other juice bar spots but by the end of it I was feeling pretty nauseous, too much ginger or something. My boyfriend and his roommate were feeling a bit ill from theirs as well. Maybe they're TOO healthy?

As for the acai bowl, price-wise it is a STEAL when compared to similar places the health crowd goes to i.e. Juice Generation (which I've also reviewed). I really liked the way the bowl tasted. There was a healthy serving of granola as well as having untraditional toppings like pineapple, kiwi, and pollen. The negative part of this bowl was the consistency. It was UNBELIEVABLY watery. Closer to being a beverage than it was to being a nice creamy bowl of acai. Once I had fished all of my fruit out I wound up drinking it straight from the container since using a spoon was getting me nowhere.

I think I'd pick Smiler's over Juice Generation, but I'm still searching for "THE" juice bar. Nothing has wow'd me yet.

  7. Smilers is the quick to-go spot for sandwich wraps in Hell's Kitchen.  Amazing wraps!  If you are unsure of what to order, you can't go wrong with #11 – roast beef/ham/turkey, hot wrap with balsamic vinaigrette. It comes with avocado and side of chips for $8.  Ordered over 10 times and not once disappointed.

  8. Five stars for Smiler's! Headed here on a Saturday morning to get my acai bowl fix. The staff were very friendly and flexible with substitutions in the recipe (got some soy/nut allergies), and the acai bowl tasted DELICIOUS. While $7-8 per bowl may seem kind of expensive, you do get a lot of ingredients in each bowl and the texture is literally PERFECT. I recommend the garden acai bowl (spinach, kale, bananas, acai, skim milk, granola, hemp seed)!
