Had the tasting menu – seems to have a lot of indian/asian influence/combo.  had sashimi for tasting, ground meat samosas, asian slaw, shrimp, short rib buns, lobster and dessert included an ovaltine kulfi  and my favorite the coconut jelly with fruits.  yes it was a tasting menu so everything except the salad was pretty much bitesize. I was not blown away. and some dishes were over salted but overall – creatively paired – acceptable, The ambiance is more exciting than the food- dark indian wooden decor- feels like we are transported to india or sri lanka but the food unfortunately does not match the luster.

This is my go-to place for a fancy date night or celebratory meal.  It is beautifully decorated (and strikingly enormous) and the service is always perfectly attentive without being irritating.  It's amazing the waiters and waitresses can maintain such a pleasant demeanor even in their sort of ridiculous costumes.

    Anyway, the real star here isn't the decor or the service, but the AMAZING food.  Every single dish we have ordered has been on. point.  The bold, deep flavors, combined in really interesting ways has made us super happy with everything we've ordered.  This includes: the salmon tartare, the coconut rice, the spicy coconut milk chicken soup, the duck… I could go on.  The cocktails are also fantastic and tasty without being overly sweet.

    It is pretty pricy, but the serving sizes are generous compared to other restaurants of this caliber.   I recommend ordering a bunch of small things and maybe 1 main and just sharing it all.

  3. I'm starting to see a trend with all Jean Georges restaurants: pretty decorations, great ambiance, friendly service, pricy menu items, and decent food. Spice Kitchen is the one in the empire that offers trendy Southeast Asian cuisine.

    I tried the garlic egg noodles with shrimp ($19). The dish was surprisingly pretty spicy! The noodles were so well flavored without being overly saucy, which I love! For the portion and price, this is definitely more pricy than your standard Southeast Asian food, but I guess you're paying for the ambiance when you're here!

    I wouldn't necessarily come here for a casual dinner but  with a big group, dinner can be lots of fun! The tables are large, and the dishes are meant to be shared family style. While our waiter recommended that the 7 of us share 5 entrees and 5 appetizers, I think that is definitely too much food! One entree per person is plenty enough.

  4. Everything that I said in my previous post about the ambience of this place still rings true. It's a true NYC experience – waitstaff is dressed up, it's a massive restaurant with an interesting menu and lots of great people watching. However, both the service and food have gone downhill. Last time we were there, it was a two hour experience, and not because we were lingering over our food. We split a vegetable tasting menu, as we have many times in the past, but the amount of food they give you and the variety and quality just isn't as good.

    Once we finally got someone to take our order, food wouldn't come out at all or dishes would come all at once, so you had to prioritize what to eat before things got cold or potentially soggy. Most things were small portions and fried, and nothing was incredibly filling, it felt more like munchy bites. We've been to tasting menus and so I get that it should be small portions of some of their dishes, but these felt like mediocre afterthought side dishes. The tasting included a fried mushroom ball of sorts, avocado spring rolls, butternut squash soup with an extremely sweet and heavy cream on top and toasted seeds and another fried vegetable or two. They ended up bringing out a comped sesame salad (good dressing, but otherwise very lacking in creativity), due to their poor service.

    I ordered tea and got it 3/4 of the way through the meal, after asking for it many times. We left underwhelmed, not too satisfied and felt like we paid too much for what we actually got. We likely won't be back soon.

  5. Spice Market made me a very contented Mommy on this past Mother's Day 🙂 OMG like I'm not sure if my words or picture will do this amazing restaurant any justice… because its just that good! Between the impeccable décor, the attentive service, the delicious food and drinks — like I honestly don't know where to start.

    We initially had reservations for 3:00pm and called to change twice due to the crazy traffic trying to get into the city. They gave us no issues with changing the reservations to 3:30pm then finally to 4:00pm and I appreciate how understanding they were especially considering it was a holiday. We were seated as soon as we arrived and had no wait at all. Upon walking in I was blown away by the décor and the massive size of the restaurant. Everything is beautiful in there and it almost transports you to another place–I really for a moment felt like I was on vacation.

    So many items on the menu caught my eye and so I decided to give 4 different appetizers a try. We got the Spicy Thai fried chicken wings, Spiced chicken samosas, Vietnamese spring rolls, and the grilled chicken satays. All yummy in their own way but if I had to choose a favorite it would be the Samosas–hands down. The spicy Thai wings had a kick but they also had a sour/tangy taste that not everyone can appreciate.  The grilled chicken satays don't compare to Philippe's or even Red Stix but they're special in their own way and in their defense made completely different.

    For drinks we decided to do a pitcher and to my recollection there are approximately 4 drinks that they offer in pitchers. We chose to do the Passion Fruit Sangria and I wasn't disappointed. Everyone loved it and it was just really refreshing and unlike any other Sangria I've ever had. My dad ordered a spiced rum with ginger ale and the server offered the house made ginger as opposed to the regular one and it was great!

    The entrées are $$$ but all worth it. Spice Market is the type of restaurant that gives you the perfect portion. Unfortunately for us, that doesn't leave any of the yummy food left over for a doggy bag to enjoy it again the next day. A la carte but I don't regret any of it. From the snapper to the cod, the lobster to the spicy noodles with the shrimp. Every entree was amazing in its own way.

    Since we decided to spend our Mother's Day at Spice Market, they gifted us with a complimentary dessert. I'm not big on cake but somehow I devoured this Cassava cake. Not only was it great to eat but it was a sight to be seen. Just beautiful plating and I didn't leave a morsel on the plate.

    This place is 5 stars. Expensive but Exquisite. I mean it is the meat packing district– can't expect anything less! This is a must try and a must come again.

  6. Absolutely stunning decor and RIDICULOUSLY good food! Been here a few times and have loved every bite. Special mentions:

    – chicken samosa
    – ovaltine kulfi (OMG)
    – red curry duck
    – crispy hamachi sushi

    It's all good here, you can't go wrong. Definitely pricey, but the sizes are pretty solid and it's best if you share all the plates. Great drinks too. Love this place!

  7. This is one if my favorite restaurants in NewYork and I very commonly take my friends who are visiting here because of the young crowd and the fact that EVERY dish tastes good
