  1. What I've tried: various appetizers, drunk man noodles, pad thai, fried rice, thai iced tea

Tip: Go for the lunch special! Great price and great portions- entree comes with your choice of appetizer.

Story: I've been to both the UES and the union square locations of Spice.  I didn't expect much, but I actually really like it.  The drunk man noodles have amazing flavor and balanced spice.  I definitely prefer this dish to the pad thai at this restaurant. For eat-in, the union square location has a darker and more festive atmosphere.  The UES restaurant is smaller and lighter, but is also fine for dining in. However, I prefer to get takeout from here.

  2. Not sure why the ratings for this place is so low.  Spice was one of the popular Thai chains in NYC years ago for the millennials. I'm not sure what happened since then, maybe we became inundated with the variety of restaurants that are out there, we became snobby.  Spice is a decent go-to restaurant for some clean, filling food at a higher price than other local Thai restaurants.  But, at least they're consistent.  There isn't anything special about Spice that you can't find at other restaurants.  Come for some quick, hot, Thai food and you'll be surprised.

  3. Friends and I ordered delivery while at work. The 15 or so meals arrived within 1 hour and were pretty tasty.

Many of the lunch specials were served with a free appetizer. I ordered the Basil Wok dosh that had chicken, onions, peppers, and thai basil. It was very tasty! The soup, which was a type of tom yum was good, but had too much seafood. I like, but don't love squid. Can't fault them for that.

The prices are typical for NYC.

  4. A nice lunch spot

I come here quite often for lunch and I highly recommend it (this place actually deserves 3.5 stars).

The lunch special comes with an appetizer and an entree. I recommend getting the duck fritters or the yum tum soup, which ALWAYS has exactly two shrimps for the appetizer. Also, there is a huge selection of entrees that one can select from.  The seafood rice bowl is very delicious with large pieces of fish and other nautical creatures. The drunk noodles can be hit or miss (sometimes they can be a little greasy). The food comes out in HUGE portions for the price.

The bad thing about this place is the service can be a bit of a struggle sometimes. The place usually has one waiter during lunch and he/she also is the bartender. There is a woman who is always at the computer but I really do not know what her function is.

All in all this is a decent place with decent prices on the UES and you should give it a shot.

  5. DELIVERY REVIEW ONLY: This is my go-to for takeout Thai food in my area. It is so great that they are featured on seamless. I was able to get shrimp pad Thai, and the pad Thai spring rolls (as you can see I love pad Thai) for $20, not bad for a delivery takeout dinner order! I was also able to use a seamless coupon code! Delivery was also quick and the packaging is neat.

The shrimp pad Thai you can tell is made fresh. The shrimp were fresh and crisp, a nice bite to them. Only thing I would comment on is that they don't take the tails off the shrimp, not so easy to eat with just a fork.

The pad Thai spring rolls are perfectly crispy and are paired with a sriracha cream dipping sauce, YUM! I could eat that with everything!

The portions are also large and easily shareable. I have leftovers for the next day or two!

  6. Ugh, why don't i learn!?!?!?  Ordered for delivery again, took over an hour, half of my soup was in the bag because they didn't close the container properly and my food was cold.

  7. Casual lunch place with OK food.  Service is speedy which you'd expect here.  I would not recommend the veggie dumplings, as the pasta is strange green color, buy the eggplant curry was very good.

  8. Came here once for dinner. It was surprisingly empty but the food was great! I ordered pineapple fried rice and I can't stop thinking about it. The tofu was amazing. It wasn't deep fried like most places, which I hate because it's so oily and spongy. Their tofu was the perfect texture and steamed. It was the perfect portion size. Yum! I can't comment on any other dishes from here but I would order takeout. Ambiance was mediocre at best, but the food was worth it.
