  1. Italian gem on the UWS. Hidden for sure which I love because it has so much charm to it. There are a ton of Italian places in this neighborhood but none possess the intimacy and authenticity of Spiga.

Visited with a friend and the service was very impressive. Our waiter wasn't rushed and did not push us out despite it being a packed Friday night. I appreciate that a lot. I liked that they offered quartinos because it is enough to share if you don't want to go overboard but also a good amount if you want to treat yourself

Went with the waiters suggestion on a cheese board and loved the pecorino with black pepper the most. Absolutely delicious cheeses.

I then had the fettuccine bolognese which was decadent – a good amount of creme makes up a fulfilling tomato sauce and a generous portion of pasta. My friend had the spaghetti with seafood which had a simple sauce but it was so fresh and packed with flavor. They must make their pastas fresh because they don't taste like the rest and the sauces are incredible.

We sat at our table an extra 30 minutes after our meal was over and no one rushed us out. Great experience at Spiga this weekend.

  2. Ok…not my usual scene but this place was an amazing stop. A group of 4 of us got reservations within half an hour due to the rain. The ambiance is intimate andgreat if you want to impress a date.

We started with an artichoke salad that was divine! Two of us ordered the orecchiette which I loved! You couldn't take it away from me if you tried. My sister and a friend ordered the lasagna which was equally delicious. The pasta was homemade in the restaurant and you could taste it in every bite!

The wine list was wonderful. There was enough selection for whatever your choice for the evening would be. Wish I could remember the wine we ordered because it was fantastic! The label had a gnome on it.

  3. Want great Italian food from a restaurant that accepts credit card (lookin' at you celeste)? Walk around the corner and try Spiga!

The restaurant has a nice homey feel to it and the menu is comprehensive without being overcomplicated. I recommend all of the home made pastas but if you're looking for their specialty the black linguine noodles are delish (if you prefer less seafoody dishes you might want to pass though).

  4. Cozy, Rustic atmosphere… Feels like your in someone's home in Italy. Fabulous wait staff, very attentive and knowledgable. Luigi the owner, takes pride in his restaurant and his menu. He makes you feel welcomed in his home, and the food doesn't disappoint. Homemade minestrone soup as though I was in Tuscany, large vegetables and just enough pasta. Homemade pasta, cooked perfectly al-dente with a veal  ragu and fungi. Special tonight was veal saltimbocca, very tender and spinach sautéed perfectly. The cannoli made with Grand Marnier just the right amount of orange essence. Caffe Americano  even was the perfect temperature and strength. Great wines, full bar, and a complimentary limoncello adds a nice touch. Run to Spiga and say hello to Luigi, you might even meet Mario.

  5. This was a nice surprise for me. I was walking around looking for a place to catch a meal and the menu looked good. It was definitely a hidden gem and most of the people I knew in the area had never eaten here. I would highly recommend it. The service was great and the food was very good. Perfect portions and the sauce was very good. I was surprised how friendly everyone was because being in New York you expect the no nonsense style but I felt like I was eating a little cafe in a small town. I wouldn't hesitate to eat here again. This would be a great spot to take a date also.

  6. Came here last night for dinner with my boyfriend and his family. Place was absolutely packed (heard from the bf's mother that this place does not participate on Opentable's online reservation program, and you actually have to call in to make a reservation. Just like how it used to be not too long ago). Despite being bumping elbows with our fellow patrons, we all had a good time here.

There were a bunch of different and amazing sounding appetizers, but I ended up choosing the sauteed baby artichoke salad, which was quite delicious. There aren't a lot of vegetarian pasta options here, but I was able to have a plain tomato sauce made to accompany my orecchiette, which was just as delicious as the appetizer. We all shared a bottle of wine, which was good, and the service was very prompt. I was amazed at how the servers managed to navigate through the sea of elbows in order to serve us our meals.

No dessert for us, as we were quite full. Would love to come back here one day.

  7. Cozy and intimate this is a great way to spend Friday night.
We came here for dinner before heading out to a local cafe for tea and dessert.
They sat me right away eventhough my party had not arrived and were so attentive. The food came out fast and delicious. It is a great setting to have a conversation. We basically closed the place down but they did not rush us out.

  8. RUDE, DISRESPECTFUL MANAGEMENT AND SERVICE.

We came here on a busy Friday night. They first made us wait for 20 minutes, saying that they had a table. The meal went well, however service was quite slow. When it came time to pay the bill is when the commotion, rudeness, and disrespect began.

Our waiter was a bald, mid 30's man with dark brown hair and an accent. If you ever even decide to go here, steer clear and be on guard.

The check was brought out to three females, 2 of which put in their visa cards, and I put in my AMEX card. NOTE: this restaurant only takes AMEX or cash. The waiter took our cards, and brought them all back a few minutes later, saying that they only accepted the AMEX, so I gladly toko out the visa cards and left my card there. The waiter then took the card in its folder, along with the bill back to the cashier.

5 minutes later, the SAME waiter brings out the same bill, without my credit card. I was confused and told him, i just gave him my card, and all i needed to do was sign the receipts. He said no, he never brought out the bill before, and i needed to pay with my card. …. … … really!?

I told him I gave him my card. In this time, I was very calm, sweet, and understanding that it may have been a confusion. The waiter proceeded to get very defensive and loud, yelling that i was accusing him of lying, and causing commotion. I proceeded to go through my wallet and purse, even regardless of the fact that my friends were also telling me he had my card.

He started to curse, dropping F-bombs from hereon out –  and get loud. My friend spoke with him and told him to calm down and think it through. The 2nd waiter, an elderly man, came to see what was going on. I asked to see all the folders where the checks were and my card wasn't there. The cashier and manager also were there and knew what was going on, and they all started getting loud and rude. The bald younger waiter who was swearing huffed and left the restaurant (he did this twice while this whole thing was going on), and was walking around smoking outside.

This went on for a good 25 minutes, until my friends and I sat down and waited. There was nothing we could do. I was accusing of lying, my card was missing, and I have never been spoken to by anyone in that manner.

The other waiter then came up to me with my CARD. It had been with the cashier by her the whole time. I shouldn't have paid them anything for such an awful experience.

I am extremely disgusted with this restaurant, the service, the management, and the rude hospitality.  Never going here again and only hope this never happens to anyone else that goes here.
