SriPraPhai Thai Restaurant

“I did notice that unlike their Woodside location the take out desserts are located further back which is probably getting less visibility.”

“Any curry that you get, I highly recommend getting a bowl of coconut rice to accompany it so that way it can help cool down the awesome spice.”

“SriPraPhai is a casual family-style Thai restaurant that I could definitely get used to on Long Island.”

  1. I've been going to the Woodside location for awhile and was so glad when this opened here since it's easier to get to. My Thai friend approves of this place because of it's authenticity. Don't come here looking for pad Thai (even though they have it). They've got stuff you won't find anywhere else, like khao soi. I'm a little disappointed they've Americanized some of their items. The pad Thai used to be made with dried shrimp and the sauce wasn't as sweet. Don't get me wrong, the food is still delicious, but they've tweaked some things to appeal to American palates.

Definitely get the watercress salad. The watercress is so crispy and crunchy and soaks in all the flavors of the aromatic sauce. It's also great to go since they separate the sauce from the crunchy stuff. We also love the soft shell crab here. It always comes out perfect and I'm not even a big fan of soft shell crab. It goes well with the green mango salad.

Be warned: if you're intolerant to spicy (like I am) their mild is equivalent to a medium spice. It's not for the faint of heart. Also, I appreciate that they take care of people with peanut/nut allergies. My husband and son have allergies and they've always been careful with the ingredients.

  2. With Bonnie G. and daughter AJ in tow we decided to give SriPraPhai another chance to redeem itself…(see prev review). So, last saturday night around 9pm we arrived to a modest crowd. We decided ahead of time to try new items and of course ask for 911 spicy to see if we could get the cooks to rise to the burning hot sensations we so craved.

Well, tonight was our night! We discussed with our server what we wanted in the way of heat and she said OK…she would so inform the kitchen…(done before to no avail!)
    We ordered:
Spicy Raw Shrimp with lime and cilantro and chili flakes – 9/10…usually the hottest dish we have had there and not up to heat this time…but delicious and delicate.
Red Curry w/chicken – 10/10..Ordered 911 and was pretty hot! Luv the sauce which I eat with a spoon for the taste and burn!
Spicy Pork w/veggies in Hot Sauce  – 9/10..Delicious  sauce with lots of heat made the dish.
    Sauteed Bean Thread w/pork – 7/10…Good but not thrilling…
We also had 3 appys which went down so fast!! The Drunken Noodles were good,Steamed Dumplings ok and the Beef Satay ok as well But, the essence of the meal was the fact that we got the heat we requested…the food was always fine but our need for heat has finally been met!

  3. I've gone here three times and so far I've always liked it. Good service although every time I've gone, I feel like they're so busy that they forget to fill our water cups. Everything pretty much tastes really good but I think that the portion size is a bit small. I find myself always wanting more food and not feeling completely full at the end of my meal (or maybe I just eat a lot). The ginger chicken with rice is my favorite dish. It's so yummy. Additionally, you can't go wrong with the flat noodles and chicken. I would recommend anyone to try it out. It's my favorite thai restaurant in the mineola area.

  4. I grew up going to the original locale in Woodside and loved going there for, well everything! But I'm quite disappointed with this place because I've sat in for dinner 2x and ordered takeout about 4-5x. The food and service here seem to be so inconsistent, I don't know whether to like you or hate you. We try to order different things, but the most common dishes we get are glass noodle salad, drunken noodles, green curry, and chinese watercress. Sometimes they are made just right, and other times they are overly salted. And what drink do we get when we go to thai restaurants? Thai iced tea! No matter how many times this is ordered, it is always super sweet. I have to get a glass of water and just mix it myself to tone down the diabeetus drink. The prices are about the same at both locations. They are decent and won't break your bank. I do recommend going with a large group so you can order a variety of dishes to try out. If they fixed the inconsistent quality of their food, I'd be more willing to order more from them.

  5. Im learning that most Thai places are NOTHING alike. I guess it really is hard to perfect a Thai meal.

First the decor and space is very boring. Its a big room, with awkward tables and greeen walls. Not a place I would recommend coming to for a date or anything becuase its also loud.

We had the curry puffs which were OK, They were more crunchy than soft,so they may have been in the fryer to long. I ordered the sweet and sour style duck and my boyfriend ordered the basil chicken. Food was mediocre. We asked for medium spice in the dish and it was more like flaming spice. My duck had more skin on it than meat (good thing it was only $11, $13 whatever it was and not the typical $20+ at most Thai places). The sauce was very oily as well.

You definitely pay for what you get, cheap prices, cheap meal.

  6. So I finally bit the bullet and tried this outpost of the Thai behemoth out on the Island and I was pleasantly surprised.  The menu is almost identical to the flagship restaurant in Woodside and prices are about the same.  I think portions are slightly larger.

Parking lot is small but there should be ample street parking if necessary.  This one also takes credit card which is nice.  Great to have authentic Thai out in this area.

  7. In search of Thai restaurants for lunch in the garden city/ Mineola area, my Yelp research led me here. As a Thai food enthusiast my palette is very refined and I admit to being overly picky. This trip was a bit underwhelming for me.

This is a beautiful location on Hillside Ave. If they offered outdoor seating that would make this place really pop. The decor for me having frequented other fine Thai establishments was unimpressive. I took my mother to lunch her while she is visiting NY.  I studied the $15.95 lunch special menu which features 1 appetizer (choice of spring roll, dumplings and salads), a Soup (Tom Ka, Shrimp Tom Ka, and Tom Yum Kai (coconut based) soup, 1 Entree, and lastly 1 beverage.  The Dumplings were very good and probably the only item I really enjoyed. They were seasoned with fresh ginger and filled with chicken and pork. For entrees we ordered red curry chicken and shrimp pad thai. Unimpressive.  I wished my curry was more rich in texture and featured more vegetables to have more substance. The chicken was dry. I will say that the positive note was the fantastic service and serving size of the meal.

The spice factor here is very real. Can't handle the heat ? Order medium.

  8. Finally, one of my favorite Thai Restaurant is in LI.  I have visited the one in Queens many times and this was my first time visiting the LI location.  The food was great as always and very enjoyable.  The price is the same and you can order a wide range of dishes.  I would go early because there is always a wait.  If you never tried SriPraPhai please do so.
