“If I worked in the area, I would come here for lunch or order take out on a regular day, but I wouldn't come here on a date.”

“The service is great either way – super fast delivery, always the same really sweet delivery guy, food is always packaged well.”

“The katsu was very crispy and juicy, it's tasted just as good as my own katsu but in a different kind of way.”

  1. As far as sushi joints go Hana has come a long way. There are so many such sushi restaurants along this stretch of Bay Ridge, you can count them on both hands and then some.  I've been back several more times years later and they have improved somewhat.

I've ordered their combination dinner specials especially when dining here with the family. It's a pretty good option at $17 but really the underlying reason is that it's easier on the kitchen to prepare and get to our tables quickly.

I've had the pork, chicken katsu, negimaki, salmon dinners and they all come with the usual suspects, soup/salad, gyoza, shumai, cali roll.

The restaurant itself is warm and inviting and never packed. They do quite a bit of business though in the takeout department and that helps quite a bit.
In summary, they earned their 3.75/5.0 with their reliable neighborhood charm, food without a ton of fanfare.

  2. So this has been a go to sushi place along with Shobu Sushi down on 93rd for my wife and I..

The fish tastes fresh. Their hot foods are pretty good like the teriyaki boxes or the udon with tempura. I often go with the sushi sashimi combo so I can get a mix of sashimi and sushi plus soup and salad for extra $1. My wife's go to is definitely either one of the bento boxes (has whole bunch of different things that come in it) or she orders the specialty rolls.

I don't have anything bad to say about this place; it's clean, it's fresh, maybe the prices can be a little lower.. A box will run you $16 before tip tax or drink.. Dinner date for two expect to pay about $60-80 depending on what you order.

  3. Great sushi but a little pricier than the other sushi spots around here . The fish taste fresh . Nothing bad to say .

  4. Decent sushi spot that I would frequent if I liked sushi. They have a great lunch deal if you can get there early enough. The  food is fresh and service REALLY fast!

  5. Every since Omiya slipped in quality, I've been looking for a new go-to sushi joint in Bay Ridge, and it seems like Sushi Hana fits the bill perfectly.

They have pretty reasonably priced lunch specials. Bento boxes are under $10. You can also get multi-roll specials as well.

I went with three rolls. The first was a spicy jalapeno yellowtail off the daily specials menu. I forget the name, but it was around $14 and I uploaded a photo of it. It was really, really good. Each piece was topped with tuna and a slice of jalapeno. There was also the orange mayo sauce on the side. I wish I could remember what it was called because it was one of the best rolls I've had in a long time.

I also got the two roll lunch special – spicy white tuna and eel avocado (it came with a choice of soup or salad). Both were pretty good, and I especially liked the sauce atop the eel avocado. They held their own as rolls, but after the special roll, nothing could really compare.

I also shared two hot appetizers with my parents – the fried tofu and the fried oysters. Both were pretty solid, the tofu being a bit better. Not too fried, but still crispy and hot.

Service was great. We came late for lunch, so there were only a few tables occupied. Free WiFi!
