  1. The sushi here isn't superb. But it is not bad at all. The lunch special is actually a good deal – $25 for nigiri sushi (chef's choice of assorted sushi) and $28 for sushi and rolls (4 pieces of sushi and 2 rolls of your choice). Also, there are plenty of seatings and the service staff are friendly and attentive. The only truly good sushi place in my opinion within the walking distance from here is Hatsuhana, which makes Sushiden a good choice for a quick, reasonably priced sushi lunch in Midtown.

  2. Very business-favored Japanese sushi restaurant. The servers are exceedingly polite and the greetings and farewells are formal. Simple bar seats or tables, you see plenty of business-people wandering in to eat here.

They seated us without an issue, and we started with hot green tea & unsweetened iced black tea, both were standard fare, no issues there. A hot towel as we read the menu and debated over what to get – so many tasty options were revealed.

I settled on the chirashi ($35), which had a two-box presentation for lunch. One box had rice at the bottom, pink sugar and the tamago (egg), daikon pickled, and unagi (eel), salmon, with other sashimi (tuna, yellowtail, mackerel, uni, etc.) filling in around and on the second plate over seaweed and daikon freshly cut. Overall, fresh fish, generous cuts, though nothing mindblowing or mouthwatering or different than the normal. Good presentation, though.

Dessert – tried the green tea sorbet version of a Japanese sundae (over agar, red bean, and mochi) – excellent end to the meal.

Overall, service was top-notch, dessert was good, and sushi was as expected. Would go back as a business lunch or for a dessert, but probably would not go to the restaurant itself on a whim.

  3. My date and I found the food to be underwhelming. The service was also interesting… When we got there we were barely seated and they asked us to order drinks so we asked for a few minutes, and not even a minute later another waitress was back. Everything felt very rushed like they wanted to get us out of there. I do love that they give you hot towels before the meal and tea after!

  4. Slow service. You can literally walk in anytime. It looks really fancy from the outside but the price is definitely on the cheap side. Sushi rolls are like $15, bowls/sashimi is mostly under $30. Appetizers are below $10. My dragon roll is alright. My friend get chirashi box, which looks so much nicer with all types of food.

  5. Very comfortable place with excellent service. Their sushi was much fresher than that of other places. Suggest their sushi with chicken teriyaki combination, like it so much!! Will definitely return. One thing was that the amount they serve for appetizer was not much…

  6. I went here for a work lunch and was told to order the Negi Toro Spicy Garlic Roll (mashed toro with scallion, topped with spicy mayo sauce and garlic chips).  I also ordered an assortment of handrolls and sushi.  Overall I was very impressed.  I actually think it could've been even more garlicky.  I would totally come back here.  The service was also excellent.  Beware that unless you are a regular you may want to snag a reservation if you are coming here for lunch.  Great place to bring clients.

  7. Went here on a random impromptu date with my boyfriend. I didn't eat but I did get a glass of Merlot.
My boyfriend ate, and he is finicky with his sushi which I think is a good thing.
The restaurant is right off sixth, the entrance is a little
Blah looking but when you go inside it is nice and clean. I was pleasantly surprised and we sat at the sushi bar.
The chefs are right behind the sushi bar and everything was fresh looking, it almost made me hungry!
The servers were sweet and attentive. They didn't rush us or make me feel uncomfortable for not ordering something to eat. When my glass was empty they offered another glass of wine immediately.
The only issue is they only have one type of red wine by the glass, so their drinks selection is lacking but I'm not sure people go there for the Wine. But they did have a lot of sake options!
Will be coming back for the food next time but won't order a California roll 😉

  8. Came here as the 2 more popular places across the street had long waits. Staff were very friendly as we were greeted by all, including the chefs, upon arriving and leaving.

The menu is pretty standard for a sushi restaurant and is priced on the high side. We all ended up getting the sushi special for $25 as it seemed like the best deal. It came with a basic salad and miso soup which both came quickly and tasted OK.

The sushi came and I quickly found out that every piece had wasabi in it, why would you do that? Especially when every sushi place including this one leaves a big lump of wasabi on the side of the plate so those that like it can use it and those that hate it (like me) don't have their meal ruined and can leave it alone. It didn't even say on the menu that this was the case or else I'd have ordered some tempura or something else.

I ended up having to take of the fish, scrape off what wasabi I could and then replacing the fish and eating it but every piece still tasted of wasabi.

The meal ended with a cup of scalding hot green tea that was way too hot to even touch, never mind drink so we all left, dissatisfied.

I get that some people like wasabi but this place is alienating a lot of other people like me that don't like wasabi my smearing it on all their sushi without warning. No need.
