  1. Food quality used to be great at this place years years (perhaps decade) ago. Now, food quality seems to be in decline and the food variation is getting old and repetitive. If Tai Pan wants to get better then I suggest it should come up with new food items or else its customer base will go downhill.

In spite of its food quality, I still come here from time to time for its Portuguese egg tarts. For some reason, it seems I am unable to find Portuguese egg tarts anywhere else in Flushing. That's why I still come here occasionally…

  2. This bakery has been here forever.  I love their egg salad and ham sandwiches. This is a must get every time I come here. Their egg custard tarts are very good too.  They offer tons of pastry, breads, and cake options along with milk teas and coffee.  Once you walk in head towards the back to get a tray and tong. The baked buns are all self service while the pastries are called off once a girl behind the counter grabs your tray.  They also offer a free newspaper with our purchase but I'm not sure if it's because we spent over a certain amount or it's always free.  Plenty of seating but is usually taken by people leisurely eating a bun and sipping their coffers.  Good thing I take mine to go!

  3. I'm here right now as I'm WAITING for my cake in which I reserved at 12pm, and they're making me wait half an hour already. I am absolutely frustrated, if I say that I'm going to pick it up at 12PM, I EXPECT it to be on TIME. But no, now I'm MAD late ALL because they couldn't commit to the time. Therefore, this will be my first and LAST time ordering a cake here. Tried to tell the ladies but they say it's no big deal. Oh okay!

  4. Lots of desserts and buns to choose from! It's quite crazy and overwhelming.

The cakes are definitely better than some of the other bakeries. We had ordered a mango cake slice and a chestnut cake slice. Both were really good for their own reasons. If you want something different, definitely go for the chestnut one!

Will be back to try other flavours!

  5. If you can't deal with overpriced baos, then don't come here. If you can, then give this Tai Pan a try.

I came years ago and left pretty upset after given a huge attitude, but my experience today was completely different. The lady who helped me was so friendly and had a huge grin on her face. That's also given that the turnover rate at these places is probably pretty high.

Anyway, came here because I had an $8 giftcard from a good friend's wedding invitation (thanks Tilz K. ;D) and was craving for baos and a milk tea. Like I said, the price is high here. The average price for a bao is around $1.30-$1.50+. An iced milk tea is $2.75. I got 4 baos, one cold milk tea at $2.75. and one hot milk tea at $1.10 and my total came out to $9.40. But what I didn't expect was for the bread to actually be so good? I definitely did not come on an off day because the bread I had was dense and soft and moist. The iced milk tea also tasted much better than the one I had in Chinatown a few weeks ago.

  6. Whenever I visit NY I visit this bakery to bring some breads back home.

My favorite selections are the egg tarts, they offer a dozen mini ones in a plastic container or larger ones in the display case. The large ones come in 4 flavors, vanilla (plain), green tea, papaya, and coffee. If you get the egg tarts be sure to warm in then an oven (350 F) for 5 minutes to get a super flaky crust and warm filling.

They also offer crepe cakes by the slice that come in two flavors, green tea and durian. Pretty decent and a good alternative if you don't want to travel to Lady M or similar places.

When you enter you grab a tray and then grab what you want from the counter, then take your tray and a worker will stack it on the counter. From there one of the workers will take you tray, ask if you want anything from the display case, then cash you out.

Overall a solid bakery that offers a slightly larger selection than nearby bakeries.

  7. I've been to the other location of this Chinese bakery in Chinatown but not this Flushing one. This one is bigger with more seating and also has a larger selection of food. Compared to the larger Fay Da chain, it is still more cramped and dated looking inside, but it is excellent food wise. There are loads of cake offerings, buns, rolls, twists, puff pastries, moon cakes and much more. Also, several flavors of egg tarts, and more meat offerings than the average Chinese bakery (pork chop bun, hamburgers, hot dog buns, etc.) There is even a hot dish section on the right with noodles, soups and fried rice! Prices are so cheap too – most of the baked goods are around $1.25 to $1.50 each.

  8. This place is always crowded-workers are rude and disorganized. Their prices cost slightly more than the other bakeries yet the taste and quality isn't better. I've tried most of their drinks and pastries and their all mediocre or gross. They messed up my drink a few times bc they had a newbie making it. The pastries isn't all that fresh either. Their pork chop bun was absolutely disgusting! I just had their fish filet sandwich yesterday..it was good but I got food poisoning from it.
