  1. A gem of a find in Bay Ridge. It's a nice space with wonderful attentive service. Loved how the table settings had the decorative sauces and sides presented in wonderful servicing dishes. The food is spot on and delicious. Authentic and flavorful. My go to items would be anything in the Tandor. The tandori chicken was tender with wonderful spices. The saag paneer (spinach and cheese) was spot on. You can tell the ingredients are fresh as the spinach pieces were still very noticeable and leafy. Great veggie dishes as well with the carrots and cauliflower dish with wonderful spices in the sauce. Plenty of complimentary side dishes provided with spicey pickles, cabbage, and a indian cracker. The naan bread was outstanding with a soft chewy interior and and nice exterior cooked up in the tandoor. It's a great place and very authentic. I'll definitely be back.

  2. 5 Stars for the service!
    3.5 Stars for the food.

The service was absolutely impeccable here. The waiters were always around to check up on you and I believe we got 2 or 3 complimentary additions to our meal (not sure what they were, some red ball that reminded me of a falafel, the starting unlevened bread with sauces and some sort of pudding-like dessert.)

    The food
I wanted something SPICY so I asked the waiter what is a spicy shrimp dish and he told me to get the Shrimp Vindaloo, so I did. It wasn't as spicy as I had hoped for but the tastes were delicious. Theres something about Indian food that is so intricate and delicious. I would recommend this. It came with potatoes mixed in with the shrimp.
My friend ordered the Lamb Sabzi dish that he said was very delicious.

We also split a mango lassi to drink, but it was too sweet for our liking.

    All in all good experience!

  3. Love this place! The atmosphere is great; I love going here with my boyfriend. Upscale ambiance with a $30 bill is always good.

I love the chicken tikka masala! I usually get that.

I've also had the onion pakora – good but just good. It was a bit tasteless. The banana pakora on the other hand, I would definitely recommend! It's sweet and delicious.

I had the chicken soup and to be honest, it was average. I didn't really like the texture. But it was pretty flavorful.

The best thing about this place is the consistency with quality and portions. The food here doesn't come in the typical little bowls, but in larger oval bowls. I always have leftovers, which is a plus.

The service is good but they fill up water glasses too much & it can get annoying. However, this is common in most Indian restaurants. Also, they give you a small complimentary dessert before you leave.

Love this place, definitely will be back.

  4. Taj Mahal is a pretty good Indian restaurant in the Bay Ridge area.  They are also at an advantage since they are one of maybe 2 Indian restaurants.  Service was fair, food was good, and the decor seemed pretty fitting as well.

We ordered the garlic naan, lamb saag, shrimp biryani, and a mango lassi.  Mango lassi was overly sweet.  I would've preferred something slightly less sweet.  When the dishes were placed in front of us, I thought they were being stingy on the portions, but it's actually all VERY filling.  That Shrimp Biryani is an absolute must-order, and it lasted so well for the 3 meals I heated it up for after taking it home (so yes, looks small to the eyes, but very filling).  I'm not a particular fan of lamb, so I wasn't too fond of the lamb saag (my boyfriend really liked it though), but we both loved the garlic naan.

    Dish report card:
    Garlic Naan, A
Lamb Saag, B for me, A for my BF
    Shrimp Biryani, A+++
    Mango Lassi, B

Service was quite attentive, we were mostly left alone unless we needed to ask for something.  Didn't have an issue with slow service as some others have mentioned.

  5. Decent Indian food. All the items we ordered was fresh. Tried the curry shrimp and the garlic nan. Both were yummy.

Service was decent. Overall a solid place

  6. This place is my go-to Indian restaurant. The food is always good and it's cheap! I went with my boyfriend not long ago. We got the mixed vegetable hors d'oeuvres. These are all delicious but my favs are the samosa and the banana one (not sure of the exact name). I ordered lamb tikka and my boyfriend ordered chicken tikka. Both were great. They come with jasmine rice, which is also good. Also, the wine here is super cheap. One glass of wine was 4 dollars! Shocking, I know. Our check at the end of the meal was about 50 dollars. Overall, the food is great and you can't beat the prices!

  7. Came here with a friend for lunch.  Outside the restaurant and awning makes it look like a dingy, old restaurant but once you go inside it looks better.  Not spectacular but better than i expected.

We had the mushroom bahji for appetizer.  I had their chicken tikki masala while my friend had their mixed biryani.  The mushroom bahji was flavorful.  The poori was puffy and a little oily but went went with the mushroom.  The chicken tikki masala came in 2 parts.  The rice was in a bowl with a metal cover while the chicken and the sauce was in another plate.  The curry was spicy but not too spicy.  The chicken pieces were flavorful and full of flavor.  My friend's mixed biryani looked huge.  It kind of reminds me of fried rice.  Plentiful of lamb and chicken.  After tasting my dish, the mixed biryani is a little dry because it didn't have any sauce but it was still well made.

Overall, the food is pretty spectacular and the service was good and attentive.  Prices at this place is reasonable and fair.  Can't wait to come back for my next visit.

  8. What was the best part about my visit? The Mango Lassi and the parallel mirrors that produce a seemingly infinite reflection in the restroom.

I ordered the Tandoori Dinner which included soup, one samosa, two pakoras, papadum, cabbage, lentils, lamb curry, one lamb kebab, 1/4 Tandoori chicken, rice, naan, rose water custard pudding, and tea or coffee for $28. It was a filling meal.

The food was okay, not the best Indian food I've had. The servers were nice, but it felt like we were being rushed. They asked if we were done multiple times while we were eating.

    It was a decent experience.
