Talde

“We also ordered the pretzel pork and chive dumplings and the #6 Bao from the dim sum menu.”

“Most of the dishes we tried were pretty spicy (especially the kare kare) so if you're not a fan of spicy food, do proceed with caution.”

“We had Grilled Lobster Robata, Tuna Tartar Spring Roll and Hot and Sour Soup Dumpling Dim Sum, Korean Fried Chicken, and the Blue Crab Fried Rice side.”

  1. I almost feel like I should go back and knock half a star off all the other ratings I've done for this level restaurant in this area because my experience here just nudged the bar up.

I went here on a Sunday night for dinner and was able to walk in without any wait.  For food, we ordered the dumplings, the kale salad, the fried oyster & bacon pad thai, and the branzino. For drinks we tried a Jersey mule.

Everything we ate was amazing.  My favorite part about the dumplings was the horseradish spicy sesame oil dipping mustard.  The dumplings were delicious too.  The kale salad was perfectly dressed and perfect. Loved the pad thai – the fried oysters & bacon really made it interesting.  By far, the best dish, was the branzino.  AMAZING.  I've had a lot of branzinos at a lot of restaurants, restaurants that were also a lot more expensive, and this was hands down the best I've ever had.  No exaggeration.  There were so many flavors! I tasted a mild curry, whole mustards seeds, fresh mint, fennel, and garlic.  Everything worked perfectly together. I'll remember that branzino fondly.

The cocktails did not disappoint.  No complaints there.  I think this might be the best restaurant in Jersey City and I'll be going here regularly from now on.  This is a place I'd bring people who I want to impress.

  2. The food here was so amazing!!! I was fortunate enough to come with a larger group so we ordered almost everything on the menu and honestly there was nothing I didn't like.

My favorite was the #6 Bao. I could have eaten about 10 of them they were so amazing. The pad Thai is also really good. Fried oysters in pad Thai?! Such a great combination. The pretzel dumplings are amazing as are the wings. I really cannot say anything bad about the food.

The space is huge and good for groups. They put us (a group of 10 adults) in a booth which was really tight at the beginning but they ended up putting a table at the end so we had more space. There is a community table as well. Loved it here and will definitely be back for more!

  3. When I tell people I live in JC, people always mention this place. I have tried to go for dinner twice before and opted to not wait the 1-2 hr wait time. I've been to Miss Wong's (speakeasy cocktail lounge in the basement) before so I have had the opportunity to try their cocktails so I've been eager to try Talde out. Miss Wong's is not to be missed as it has excellent cocktails albeit at NYC prices ($12+).

Love the decor and environment of Talde as it was cozy and hip but comfortable. The bar is massive and takes up almost half the restaurant. Plenty of places to sit and stand around the bar. The other half of the restaurant are tables/booths and a large community table. Felt very spacious. Menu is divided by appetizers, noodles, main dishes, side dishes and the waitstaff make a big deal about how it's "sharing style" and dishes will come out as ready. I don't think appetizers or dish sizes were any different than other places in the area.Waitstaff was attentive though we did start w/one waiter and end with another.

We split the yuzu guac (no ham) for appetizer. Delicious sticky crispy rice w/excellent spice and guac on top. They only give you 4 bites  but a very good start to the meal. Highly recommended. We split the oyster/bacon pad thai and salmon. Salmon came w/3 big pieces with black bean brown butter, edamame, and clementines. Very good flavor including a touch of sweet in the sauce and well cooked salmon pieces. They gave a generous portion of edamame which I loved. The oyster/bacon pad thai was not your traditional pad thai as it had more flavor and spice than typical. However, it was a bit over spiced and noodle heavy so the proteins sort of felt lost. Prices are a bit higher than other places in the neighborhood ($15-30) as an FYI.

Overall, I felt it was a good meal and loved the unique takes on standard Asian fair, def will be making a return trip!

  4. I came here for a friends birthday on a Saturday night. The decor is beautiful. It has a rustic/modern vibe. We ordered several different items off the menu for the group to share. In the appetizers section we ordered the #6 Bao which was a spicy chicken and was tasty. Another appetizer was Yuzu Guacamole which was similar to sushi veg roll and pretty average. Entrees we ordered the broccoli and steak which was okay at best. The side of crab fried rice was definitely the best thing on the menu  and what I would recommend getting. Overall I was not impressed and this place reminded me of a high end version of PF Changs.

  5. The first Talde I went to was in Brooklyn.  All there plates are like tapas.  If it says entree's, it is still the size of tapas.  I was told that the entrees are for like 2 people.  When we got the entrees, it was definitely not even enough for one person.  The food is not up to par with the middle class looking place they got going on.  The place definitely has more potential.  They need an improve their menu because it is not catching my eye or making me want to come back for more.  I would not come back again, but if I do it would only be for drinks.

  6. Eh.

Been wanting to come to this place for a while. Every time I would pass it I would always say wow this place looks cool need to go. Finally went one day after work, midweek. Happy hour was on beer I believe and well drinks. Got a well rum and coke. It was good. Enough liquor to soda. Then my friend and I decided to get a pitcher of sangria which I remember being a bit costly for only having 3 cups of sangria in it. It was a decent batch. It was not sweet but you could barely taste the wine. But you will feel it haha. One glass in a half was just enough to get someone feeling happier than when they walked in. Haha !

Food selection was depressing. Nothing jumped out at me and said "try me try me!" I am glad I gave this place a shot though. Very nice decorations and the bar was very clean. Service was lacking a bit.

  7. For starters, their Sunday brunch is a feast for kings. Plate after plate seemed never-ending, rarely have I witnessed the likes of "Asian fusion" done aptly so. A pretty penny, but a worthy investment for a large group.

The location is also ridiculously close to the Grove Street PATH station, which gives you another excuse to ditch Brooklyn and give the Garden State some love!

  8. Came here for dinner last night.  Initially we were told that there would be ~30 min wait which was to be expected for a late Saturday night, but luckily we were seated after waiting no less than 10 minutes.

First on the menu was some really interesting drinks, which for me was the best part of the restaurant.  I had the Plum Basil Margarita and the BF got the Lychee martini.. which i strongly suggested since I was curious to try it and heard from another customer that it was really good.  While the drinks are pricey ($10-12), and on the smaller side, they had great flavor.

As far as food goes, I would say this is the hype of the restaurant let me down a little bit.  The waiter suggested that most of the options on the menu are intended to be shared, so each couple collaborated and ordered 2 dishes.  I picked the Filipino BBQ Pork and BF ordered the Fried Oyster and Bacon Pad Thai.  The waiter suggested that we order a side because the Pork came A la carte. So as a table we ordered the veggie fried rice.

Between the two dishes, the pad thai was definitely the winner.  While the pork wasn't bad, it wasn't anything special either.  And having to order a side for an already higher priced dish wasn't very appealing to me.

Service overall was great though. Waiters checked in throughout the meal to check how things were going without being too pushy, extra touches like folding your napkin when you get up from the table to use the restroom. In the end, glad I got to try it out, but probably would not come back here again.
