Tang Maru

“Freshly fried fish for EACH person, high quality kimchi, and my favorite spicy squid.”

“We have tried the oxtail soup, kalbi soup, bulgogi soup, gamja tang/potato soup, seafood pancake, dumplings, and octopus Bibimbops.”

“The tofu is very soft and runny, and coupled with the oysters in the stew, the taste is very briny.”

  1. Hands down one of my all time favorite korean restaurant!

What's cool the restaurant display two giant cauldron of the ever-simmering of velvety, white, lip-smacking broth. This is the back bone of their dishes.

We went back here at least three times and all at different times, food and service were consistent and extra delicious.

My all time favorites from this place:

Beef tendon salad, if you have problem with textures them this might not be your cup of tea.

Beef tongue, tendon, oxtail and brisket stew, Superb! Especially when it's god-awful cold outside.

Seafood pancake-oh man! It's just simply amazing.

Soon doo bu-it was crazy good!!!!

    Will be back soon!

  2. This place is SO good! I think every thing I've ever ordered has been a hit.

    – Dogani Tang
    – Sullung Tang
    – Gamja Tang
    – Bulgogi Sooyook
    – Dolsot Bibimbap

The banchan is always so clean and their broths are not laden with MSG either. Service can be a bit of a hit or miss because they're always so busy.

Oh, and I once left my phone behind at the table and the manager ran out to return it to me. Yay for honest workers!

  3. Really good tang place, good cold noodle soup and good potato pork neck bone soup. their daikon kimchi is good too.

  4. I was in the mood for some good Korean stew and saw how this place had a flurry of high ratings.  It definitely raised my curiosity, so I ventured out here on a weekend to check it out.

I ordered the soon doo boo/kal bi combo.  For the price you pay, you definitely get a really good deal.  The meal was tender and perfectly cooked.  It also was flavorful without feeling very greasy.  The same can be said for their soon doo boo/spicy tofu stew, which was outstanding.  It was not overly salty and didn't overwhelm me in any way.  The tofu they used was also extremely fresh and tender.

The service was top notch, friendly and helpful.

They also provided a very generous serving of fish as an appetizer and while their banchan was simple, it was also tasty.  The kimchee was very fresh and a nice compliment to a great meal.  I also liked how spacious this place is.

Even though it's a bit of a schlep to get here, it's worth the effort since you simply won't find something this good in K-town in Manhattan.

They also have parking, which is a huge plus!

  5. I think I can give this place a 4.5 stars and would say this is one of the best Korean restaurants in Palpark/FtLee/Leonia/Englewood area.  They are located in the same building as a korean spa, so there is a constant flow on this restaurant.

I have ordered bulgogi in hotpot and also bibimbab in a pot.  They were pretty tasty.  Side dishes including kimchi are pretty good, too.  Would recommend this place if you would like to have some good korean food.

Since you can use the parking lot for the spa, it is easy to park, too.

  6. The seolleong tang is really good here and I like how you can order a set with either kalbi, seafood pancake, or dumplings. I got the seafood pancake set but I should of got the dumplings. The seafood pancake was too oily for me. The soup portion is a good size and will fill you up.

  7. Great place for authentic Korean stew. I had the pork bone soup with pork, potatoes, and vegetable (gambi tang?). I got a giant bowl of stew with 3 large pieces of pork on bone in it, along with a side of rice. The broth was delicious. Highly recommended!

  8. I'm embarrassed to mention that as soon as we sat down, odors from the bathroom seem to waft thru the restaurant. It's a weird mildewy sewage bathroom smell and we were seated really far from the bathrooms which were behind a partition. After a few minutes the smell disappeared and we ordered bibimbop which came in a huge stone piping sizzling bowl. It was a feast for the eyes. It was pretty good, not spectacular, a bit bland even with the hot sauce paste they give you.

A few minutes later a bleach cleaning smell drifted thru. Not sure what was happening like if they had a vent problem or what. I'm not sure if I'm returning cause these smells can surely ruin any meal no matter how delicious.  Hope the owners read this cause I was too embarrassed to say anything to their face.
