Tehuitzingo

“And although it's small, there were enough stools in the back that everyone got a seat at lunchtime.”

“Then I had three tacos- roasted pork (good but a little dry), red chilli pork (amazing) and the tongue taco (so efffffffin good).”

“My favorite is the lengua with plenty of green habanero sauce and an ice cold pacifico to drain it down…”

  1. Probably the best tacos and tamales in Hell's Kitchen.  Absolutely no frills, only use for takeout or delivery.  Definitely wouldn't plan to eat in here, it's just a small bodega/grocery kind of place.  But the food is seriously killer, authentic mexican.  Hard to find in NYC.

  2. I was unimpressed with this place. From other reviews Tehuitzingo seems to be really authentic, so I came for lunch and got Chiles Rellenos, and was really disappointed. The rice and beans were average, and the stuffed peppers were luke warm when served and too salty. Unfortunately I will have to find a better place for authentic Mexican food 🙁

  3. As a Californian, I find it very difficult to find authentic Mexican food in NYC. Enter Tehuitzingo. Conveniently located downstairs from my boyfriend's apartment, this is my go-to when I'm craving authentic Mexican food, and that too for a decent price. I've had the horchata from here (one of my favorites) and the pollo en salsa verde. Both were excellent and reminded me of home! The salsa verde is surprisingly spicy (it's listed as mild) but I love spicy food so no complaints there. They give a huge portion of everything for $12 so you get your money's worth here. The service is always fast and whenever I go to pick up food, it's usually pretty empty so there's plenty of space to dine in, as well. I really want to try their burrito next time!

  4. Decent Mexican food. Good sandwiches. Tacos are average, but the meat is a little dry. Portions are great. Delivery and order online options available.

  5. I really wanted to like this place. I book amrked here awhile ago and met my friend for lunch during my winter break of 2015.

2 tacos comes in an order. I should have ordered a sandwich instead, I also ordered a pork rib stewed with green chilies. I came with rice and beans which was great, I gave my al pastor tacos to my friend who finished her order of pork tacos.

I will have to find another authentic place for tacos in NYC.

  6. Tehuitzingo is a little grocery store off of 10th, but inside, you will find a little taqueria in the back.  Items such as Huevos con Jamon, breakfast burritos, soups, tacos, nachos, fajitas, flautas, enchiladas, chimichangas, sopes, quesadillas, huaraches, tostadas, burritos, various platters, and tortas are offered.  I tried 3 of their tacos: Al Pastor (roast pork with pineapple; this was slightly bland, and I wished there were some visible chunks of pineapple with the pork); Chicharron en Salsa Verde (pork skin taco; this was in a green verde sauce, but this was a bit too wet-like for me, with a very mushy-like texture); and, a Bistec (beef/steak taco; this was super flavorful and pretty tasty).  There are red and green salsa available, but I highly suggest the red salsa – this was a great complement to the tacos.  I would love to come back and try out their carnitas as well as their huaraches.  Just note that even though the store has posted holiday hours, they open about an hour past the stated time – it was a little annoying, as while the grocery section was opened, the kitchen wasn't ready in taking the orders and another hour of waiting was required!

  7. Real Time Lunch Review!

Ordered up a Torta de Suadero (Beef Belly), and Bistec A La Mexicana (due to the seduction of that BOOM pic posted by Tiffany M!).

Ordered up at 3pm.  Hefty distance from my office, yet hot food arrived in thirty minutes!

Very generous portions of beef, rice, and beans for the $12 price tag!  Torta looked and smelled amazing!  It all tasted soooo good!  The beef belly is where it is AT, y'all!  And that Bistec heated up perfectly the next day.

Best Mexican delivery in the area, hands down!

  8. I love this place. Hadn't been to this location yet. Very good. The mole tamales were outstanding. I had suadero and lengua tacos. Great as well and simple with cilantro, onions, and a little lime. There's a bit of a wait for the order but it's the closest in NY I get to Mexican food like I grew up with L.A. The only thing is that each taco order is 2. I like their taqueria where you can order individual.
