  1. Been here a couple times already. It's really small here and very cramped. Today was the first time I got the ramen to go and I was a little sad.

Both my friend and I did not get any meat in our ramen, and no, we did not get the vegetarian order.

The ramen is good but I personally prefer totto ramen over this place.

  2. My wife and I stopped into this hole-in-the wall ramen shop on 9th Ave. as we were walking back to our car after a long day in NYC.  We were hungry but not sure what we wanted to eat. Then we saw this spot that we had passed before.  We were glad we stopped in.

The place only has 10-12 seats around a U-shaped counter but the prices are extremely fair and the portions quite large.  For $11.95 I had a pork-based broth with tons of noodles, shitake mushrooms, assorted veggies, bok choy, (which I added for $1 extra) and, most importantly, an excellent piece of pork belly that was moist and popping with salty taste. I believe it was the house special because it had the name of the place attached to it.

My wife chose more of a curry based spicy ramen with ground chicken and it was very good as well.

There are many different soup combinations to choose from. You can also add individual items, such as the bok choy, at your discretion so chances are there will be a match for you here.

This is not in name one of the more famous ramen shops in NYC such as Totto. But it is more than adequate for a quick bite with no frills.

Because of the limited seating, you may have a short wait but it will be worth it.

  3. I'm surprised I've never been here before as I'm always looking for a good bowl of ramen. It's a spot with delicious ramen, quick service, and relatively cheap prices. There's no delivery so we ate in. There are roughly around 10 seats, so when we arrived there was a wait, but we only waited for 5 minutes due to the fast service. I ordered the Kara Terakawa, which is the spicy version of the original–the added chili oil which is so good! The pork was literally a slab of pork with the fat on it, and while I didn't eat the fat, I appreciated it being there to add more flavor for the broth. My food came out really quick (7 minutes or so) and the bill came out to be $14, including tax and tip. Overall a wonderful experience and would love to come again!

  4. I was stationed in Japan for three years in the Navy, and since I have been back, I have had a really hard time finding food that tastes authentically Japanese (granted, I live in Maine, but I eat Japanese food almost any chance I get, especially on my occasional trips to NYC).

The ramen is very good, in my opinion, although admittedly I didn't eat a ton of ramen when I was living in Japan. However, their gyoza and their chicken curry sides were SO perfect, meaning when I tasted these foods I was instantly revisiting Japan in my mind. It wasn't that the food was the most amazing food I'd ever eaten, although it was delicious, it was that it was just so exactly the right flavors. Not sure how else to describe it, but let's just say I'll be coming here again. I don't mind bumping elbows with the person next to me, I don't mind paying in cash, and I don't mind waiting a few minutes to get a seat when I know the food I'm about to eat is this good. YAHM

  5. Just a block away from Columbus Circle lies Terakawa Ramen. They only have about 10 to 12 seats at most, but this little ramen spot boasts one of the best ramen anywhere in the city and at affordable prices. They have the classic pork bone broth ramen, the spicy miso, and a vegetable ramen.

I ordered the Mayu Ramen, which is the pork bone broth base flavored with black garlic oil. This was one of the richest broths I've ever had! And I'm putting it right up there with the famed pork broth at Ippudo. The toppings that the Mayu came with were nothing special, just two slices of pork, some bamboo shoots and half an egg. I ordered an extra full egg, and later after I ordered kae-dama because one serving of noodles is just never enough! The noodles were cooked just right, not overdone but also not too hard.

So, if you don't want to make reservations 2 weeks in advance at Ippudo Westside, go give Terakawa Ramen a try. 🙂

  6. Terakawa ramen is delicious. It's a great post theater spot to warm yourself up on a cold day. I had the regular Terakawa ramen, gyoza and fried rice.  I loved the combination of mushroom, juicy pork, bamboo shoots and pickled ginger. They were very delicious. The noodles were cooked to just the right consistency too, Just be warned that the place is tiny so not a good idea to bring a large party of more than three people. Also cash only. But the price for ramen is just as it should be. I can't wait to go back and try different flavors.

  7. I'm sad. I really liked the ramen here. However, I got the worst food poisoning I've ever gotten from here a few days ago. Going to avoid this place from now on. The restaurant itself was so hot too, I don't know how they keep their food fresh. Be careful if you choose to eat here.

  8. OMG this place is so cute and intimate! The ramen is really good. The space is really tight it only fits around 11 people, hence the intimacy. The food is totally worth it though. Also it's cash only so be prepared!!
