  1. I can't believe I have never submitted a review for Topaz!  This little spot in Belleville is easily one of my favorite Thai restaurants.  What makes them stand out here is the fact that the owner (who goes by Mama) adds her own flair here and there, making for some great and unique signature dishes (Thai Tacos are an absolute must for everyone to try at least once).  Besides those fusion-esque dishes, her other authentic Thai dishes on the menu are better than many of the other Thai restaurants in the area, making for a great selection of menu options.

Lastly, besides the great food, when Mama is there, she makes you feel right home, offering some of the best customer service around.

  2. If you like Thai Food, then this is the spot you have to try in the area. I came here a couple times and one time with friends on my Birthday. Its a small spot with about a dozen tables or so. The service is friendly especially when the owner is in the restaurant. She makes you feel welcomed and suggest some of her signature dishes or specials. I like the dishes that are seasonal like the soft shell crabs in Thai sauce or Sticky rice with mangoes. However, if you have to order something off the menu try the crispy duck and crispy Thai tacos. Parking is on the street or there is a small parking lot right next to the restaurant. Overall, give them a try if your are looking for an authentic Thai restaurant.

  3. I love thai food because of this place and this place only! The first I came here I fell in love with Mama's Taco, Fried Calamari, Rock Shrimp, Topaz Fried Rice, Fried Dumplings, Pad Thai and Fried Poundcake. Just to name a few!!

Have you evert eaten something that makes you want to pass out because it was so sinfully good…that was all the food I tasted especially there desserts. OMG I was so hooked I kept coming back for the desserts and taking it to go. I definitely love my sweets and this place always satisfies.

Mama and her staff are so awesome and attentive to their patrons. All dishes can be catered to your liking. I have treated alot of people to thai restaurant and they all it here.

You should get up and go now…why read more reviews just stop what you doing and go here..Also its BYOB!!!

Tip: If you have a peanut allergy just make sure you tell the waiter or waitress because some foods have peanuts in them.

  4. I don't know much about Thai cuisine but I was impressed in this small and quaint establishment.

It is very small. I counted about 10 tables but the atmosphere is really nice.

Okay, I only ordered one dish because I wanted to ease my way into this new spectrum of food. I ordered the Topaz Noodles with chicken. It has pineapple pieces in it so I knew I wanted it.

I was impressed with the taste, the portion and how quick it came out of the kitchen. I really enjoyed myself here and cannot wait to try more.

  5. After coming here a few times to dine in I have to say this is a nice this spot. The wait staff is nice, decent seating, nice owner and large good tasting portions of food. I had the Volcano chicken on one visit which was great but didn't quite live up to the name, the chili sauced fish and vegetables was great. Every bite. Was so flavorful and plenty of it. The complimentary salad as soon as you sit down is nice too. To top it off, it's BYOB so you can enjoy the great food with a drink of your choosing if none of the beverages are to your liking. There are a number of things on the menu that look good so multiple visits for taking out or eating in. I'd say eating in if you can for the presentation as well as the food being served up hot and ready to eat.

  6. I was looking for a Thai place around Secaucus that was open for dinner Sunday night and for some reason this place didn't show up! I was with 2 others and it happened to show up in a Google search. Amazing find!

There's parking around the side, but we happened to snag the front street spot. While we were waiting for a table to be cleared we read the To Go menu and peeped the Specials on the neon sign. We'd already decided on getting the Coconut Rock Shrimp appetizer before we sat down,

Once seated it took a while for anyone to say hi to us. After observing a little bit, we realized that there was one guy working the whole restaurant. Honestly, it was really impressive by the end. There were about 14 tables.

While we waited, we were commenting on the atmosphere. We loved it. It's super cozy with umbrellas hanging from the ceiling, colorful lanterns, mirrors on the wall, elephants, and string lights. I was super comfortable sitting along the back wall with the pillows for back support. Then we watched America's Funniest Home Videos that was playing on the 1 TV facing us.

When the lone guy came over he uncorked our wine and took our orders. He didn't pour the wine for whatever reason, but the man had such a great sense of humor, who cares. We ended up getting the rock shrimp app and the steamed dumplings.

Coconut Rock Shrimp: 5 of them. Tasty. We imagined that the sesame sauce would be on the side, but we think it was lightly mixed with the salad bed under the shrimp. The coconut wasn't consistent throughout the breading. There wasn't enough sauce. We ended up using the dumpling sauce.

Steamed Dumplings: there were 4 super small dumplings. They were really good. I think I got chicken ones. I never read what the description was so I was surprised by that. The sauce was good.

For our entrees we had Pad Cashew Nut Chicken, Spicy Basil Noodles with Shrimp, and Seafood Basil (Mussels, shrimp, calamari, baby scallops, bell peppers & onions in a spicy basil sauce).

Pad Cashew Nut Chicken: It was tasty, but it really wasn't spicy. The jasmine rice was kinda dry.

Spicy Basil Noodles with Shrimp: This was my dish and it was awesome. I was going to save some towards the end, but I ended up finishing it after waiting a little bit. The question was raised on whether I felt the noodle were rubbery or not. I honestly didn't even think anything of it until I was asked, and then I was kinda conscious about it. I still think it coulda just been paranoia on my part. I wish there was more shrimp, but honestly. It was so good.

Shrimp Seafood Basil: My sister got this and it was really good. There were some empty/unopened mussels, but the calamari were amazing and everything else was good.

I'd vote my dish the best.

For dessert, we had the Fried Oreos & Fried Brownies Sundae. Hollllyyy smokes. It was fantastic. Fat fat fat. Very gluttonous. Totally worth it.

Honestly, if the ambiance wasn't so cozy and nice, the waiter didn't have a great sense of humor, and we had to wait more for drinks (we didn't because of BYOB), then it'd be a 3 star restaurant because of the slow service and minor quirks with the food, but if they fix the issues this place has the potential for 5 stars.

  7. We went there after looking at the reviews on Yelp. The hosts were great! The place is small and cozy. It was crowded and let of people were in waiting. It is bit weird to see the counter on the other end of the door. So, basically you maneuver through the tables and reach the counter and wait there.

The food was OK. Not that great. I found all the stuff that we ordered to be on sweeter side. We had asked them to make it spicy but instead we got everything very very sweet. Infact the soup was also sweet.

One thing that I really liked was the Thai tacos (which for a change was not sweet). They have a parking lot next to the restaurant and there are ample of street parking available as well.

  8. I came here the Saturday before Valentines day, since the original place closed two hours earlier than normal and I am so glad I did! This place is romantic and charming, great for first dates or dinner with friends. BYOB and really decent pricing. Duck was delicious, the pad thai wasn't as strong with the peanut taste but still amazing!
Parking is a little bit of a hassle since the lot next to it shares with the whole plaza and the street parking was non-existent. This could be because of the snow we just had but we figured it out.
I can't wait to make this a regular since I work in the area =]
