If there was an option for zero stars, that is what they deserve! My party of two waited over 25 minutes for two bowls of ramen around 8pm. Three parties who came after us were served before us, which lead me to inquire about my order. The waiter came back and tried to argue with me about the wait time. Arguing with a customer isn't going to help the situation. So, I left a $2 tip deserving of the service. As soon as I left some waiter came chasing after and tried to ask me for more tip. I told him tip is not mandatory but is given according to service. He clearly didn't understand. Instead again tried to argue, and told me not to come back. Would I want to go back to a place with such rude service and incompetent staff?!! Never. I would have taken my tips back if I could.
I am reviewing the vegetarian ramen, which I must say was fabulous. I don't eat meat so I can't really comment on anything else on the menu. However, my husband (who is a meat eater) really loved the paitan ramen. He did feel that it wasn't incredibly authentic, but really enjoyed it.
Anyway, this is a cute little ramen shop in hell's kitchen. I think it's actually quite spacious and they were able to move through people pretty quickly. It's nice and tucked away from the main hustle on 10th avenue which makes it feel a little calmer than many other places in the area. The selection is what you would expect of a ramen place, and I did appreciate that there were quite a few non-pork options (with chicken though.)
There really wasn't a ton of vegetarian options, but that's fairly normal for a ramen place. However, I was really impressed with the flavor and the quality of the noodles for a place that seems to be a lot of effort into its pork-infused soup. Anyway, I loved the introduction of avocado to the soup, which is something I don't see but I now really love. Each of the ingredients were super fresh, tasty, and really brought the meal together.
This is a cash only place so don't forget to go the bank before coming here.
Came here at 930pm on a Saturday night, there's a short wait and i think we got seated before 10pm.

Ordered a bunch of food because we were starving:
1) Uni don (seasonal) – the uni was average, you are not missing out anything if you don't try it
2) Takoyaki – Japanese fish ball with squid filling – very very very good actually, i was surprised by the quality – a must order amongst all the appetizers
3) Two Miso Paitan $12, pork was very good – the broth was a little thicker than i would want and very salty because i mixed all the miso paste into the soup – would not recommend that unless you like saltier food
Do not have a huge urge to come back – might come back another time if there is no line. even though it's one of the better places to get ramen in the city, i think they could do better!
BEST RAMEN OF MY LIFE.
I moved to New York two years ago, and one of the best parts of living in the city is Totto Ramen. I really think I could eat Totto ramen every day for the rest of my life if I had to. Right now, I will stick to only once a week.
Totto Ramen's menu is simple. There is only 3-4 variety of pretty much the same thing: Totto Chicken Paitan Ramen. You have the choice of Char Siu Pork or Chicken with their signature chicken broth, scallions and bean sprouts. You can choose to add your own toppings for an extra $1. They also have an open kitchen concept. When you sit at the bar, you get to see the chefs making ramen right in front of you, stirring huge pots of chicken broth.
I always order the Totto Spicy Ramen (extra, extra, extra spicy if I'm in the mood) with additional egg and corn. I truly believe extra toppings of egg and corn really help round out the dish! The Totto extra extra spicy ramen delivers the chilli oil on the side in a little bowl so you could add as much or little as you wanted.
I've been to dozen of ramen places in New York & DC but my favorite by far is still Totto Ramen.
The most special part of Totto ramen is their amazing broth and chili oil. I will always remember the very first moment I tasted the broth. After just one spoon full of the spicy ramen soup – something in my life changed. I never tasted anything so good – I could care less about anything else but devouring that awesome bowl of Totto ramen. The broth had an immense amount of depth to it – intensely meaty and so flavorful. That moment changed my life… more so, this was when Totto Ramen became part of my life.
I visited this place a while back and I had never experienced service like this before. EVER!
First, three of my family members got there before my boyfriend and I and they were told they could not save our seats for us at their table. So in other words, if strangers wanted to sit side by side at the same table they could. So with that in mind, my boyfriend and I rushed to the restaurant. It was my first time trying authentic ramen and I didn't know what to order and our server was not helpful at all. Instead, she was rushing me and pressuring me to just pick anything on the menu. My boyfriend was not hungry and she said he had to order something on the menu. I was very shocked by this and he decided to order a side of white rice. She looked bothered and asked, "that's it?"
Anyway, we got our food super fast and I'm not going to lie, it was delicious. However, I did not finish my ramen and they don't give you to-go boxes. What a waste.
At one point, I asked where their restroom was and they pointed to a door but didn't say a word to me. Two of the serves were just staring at me while speaking a different language and I felt super uncomfortable. I couldn't wait to get out of here. It was such a bummer because the food is great.
I told my sister to leave a tedious tip for our TERRIBLE service. I mean in my eyes our server deserved a $0 tip. Seriously the worst. I couldn't even eat comfortably.
I believe my sister left about $5 and our server had the nerve to complain. She said, "Um you guys gave a $5 tip for a $50 tab" and again, I was appalled. YOUR TIP IS DESERVED, NOT GIVEN. Sorry.
Then we walked out of the restaurant and she chased us out the door and shouted, "Excuse me?!?! You guys only left a $5 tip!!!!!" It was unbelievable. Pretty sure I was on an episode of Punked.
I really liked Totto ramen and never thought that I'd give anything less than 4 stars until today. We walked in on a Thursday around 6pm to find this establishment empty with 1 guest in the restaurant. We asked to sit at the bar and shortly after we placed an order. Pork buns, takoyaki, spicy ramen and miso ramen. Takoyaki came out shortly after ordering then came the ramens…. um?? Long story short, pork buns never made its appearance for us to endulge. Takoyaki was actually pretty delicious! Waited for the buns… and waited.. but nothing. Perhaps it was taking abit longer… then we were done with the ramen. Still waiting for the pork buns, we looked at the waitress then she came by and said 'are you done?' But before i was able to say anything, she squeezed herself in between us and started gathering the bowles. As she dropped the chopsticks from the soupy bowl, the soup splashed on to my white blouse. She looked and said 'are you ok?' then went away. No apology or acknowledgement of what just happen. Hope they know how upsetting this is to a customer. A big turn off. While I was busy wiping my blouse, they left the check and walked away. We paid and quietly walked out 🙁

I had the chicken ramen with cha siu. I personally like it better than Ippudo, Totto's competitor. The cha siu was very tender and the broth creamy, thick, and not too salty. The noodles were a little thicker than Ippudo.
I'll add to the hype and say you should go to this place. The chicken broth ramen is a little different than what I'm used to and I will be back to satisfy that ramen craving!
This relatively new location is slightly more spacious than other the original Toto Rame nearby, not as well known since it's not the "original," and therefore shorter wait for essentially the same food.
The most ordered ramen is the Chicken Paitan, which is there original straight noodles in the house made Chicken Paitan Soup. The ramen is topped with scallions, onions, nori, and a choice of chicken or pork char siu. The winning combination at Totto Ramen is the flavorful broth combined with chewy, al dante noodles.
I also tried the Char Siu Pork Bun. The bun was a little dry, but the juicy (and fatty) pork more than balanced it out. I didn't like that they smeared a ton of mayonnaise.
