  1. Really good Italian in NYC.

Shared the thin crust pizza for appetizers pepperoni and arugula and Margherita both sumptuous. Hen of the woods mushrooms were super tasty.

Main course of veal Milanese with tomato and arugula which was huge with side of shoestring fries.

The red wine was also fantastic!

  2. We wanted to do a nice dinner before seeing a show, and picked this place because it was conveniently located and had a seemingly great menu.

The ambiance downstairs was really cool. But, we were seated at a small table in the upstairs gallery. It was ridiculously hot. One pair next to us asked to be relocated, because the air didn't make it into the nook where we were seated. The staff were all very nice & our waiter was awesome- they offered to relocate us, but we would've had to wait for another table to clear so we declined.

The bread came out before our waters. The bread and oil were tasty, and we really enjoyed the antipasto plate (the mushrooms were bland, though). They also didn't give us new utensils between appetizers and dinner.

The food was good- but nothing special. The balsamic glazed tuna had a mismatched heavy seasoning. The grilled veal chop had a good flavor, but we got a fatty cut and the accompanying potatoes weren't very flavorful.

When we'd glanced at the menu originally we were excited about the pizzas, but to accommodate theatre goers (which we appreciated), the restaurant doesn't make pizzas between 5:45-7:45.

We would consider returning, sitting at the bar and sharing wine, pizza and antipasto. We wouldn't return for another formal dinner.

  3. I usually pass this place when I'm on May way to work. Fortunately I was in need of a drink and food and never been in the restaurant. It was a long day at work and i didn't look to great.

When I came in the hostess gave an option of where I would like to sit… If I'm eating alone I usually stay at the bar but there was so many ppl there that I sat at the pasta bar…my waiter was a very nice gentleman named Jose, very kind with a hint of flirtation… Which I enjoyed cause I wasn't feeling too pretty… I had questions of certain things on the menu which he was very knowledgable.

My vodka gimlet and dinner were absolutely delicious and the employees are great… I would come here as much as possible to take a break from reality…

  4. The Salmon was good, the cannoli was better and the service was not as good or attentive as expected, but all in all I'd still go back.

  5. A very nice place. I thought we might not get in without a reservation because it was so crowded. The host greeted us and shook our hands. He admired my earrings – smooth. They were skulls. A coat check person immediately came over and took our jackets and umbrellas and gave us a check stub.
Then we are seated at a very nice booth table from where you can see all that is going on in the main dining area. They pull the table out for us so we can comfortably get into our seats.
We ordered caprese salads, supreme pizza ( prosciutto ham, bacon, pepperoni, peppers) and prawns with Fava beans. All very tasty. The pizza is sooooo thin without being a cracker.
Dessert: a chocolate gelato thing and a cannoli. You get two cannoli to an order, but she (June P. ) said I could get only one. This place is pretty good. Try it.

  6. I've had Trattoria Dell'Arte bookmarked purely for their chicken pepperoni parm as I love chicken parm and LOVE pepperoni.

First off, the service here is impeccable. From walking in to the host's table, you're instantly greeted as if you're a regular. "How are you ?!" along with a handshake to each individual, followed by asking for your name as well. Definitely a memorable first impression and personable right off the bat. Then things get better because you're able to select where and which table you'd like – no table is a bad one as they're spaciously divided, but I would recommend a comfy booth.

As I only came with my boyfriend, I already knew we were sharing the chicken pepperoni parm as I did prior research on Yelp and saw how massive the portion is. However, I couldn't help but look at the menu anyways – there were so many other dishes that I wanted to order, so I actually asked the waiter if they were able to make a half portion of the chicken pepperoni parm instead. Sadly, they do not, but it was worth the try!

We snacked on the free focaccia bread as we waited for our entree. As a lover of focaccia bread, this did not disappoint. It had olive oil brushed on top, along with onions and peppers stuffed throughout – definitely not your typical focaccia bread! Then the chicken pepperoni parm arrived! The size was as impressive as it appears on Yelp and without a doubt feeds two. Perfectly fried with the right amount of marianna sauce, the chicken parm didn't feel greasy as all. With pepperoni, you automatically expect a pool of oil, so I was pleasantly surprised that the chicken parm wasn't swimming in a pile of grease. The pepperoni was scattered throughout the chicken and really added a layer of texture and saltiness that the chicken needed especially since all we kept eating chicken.

Forget Carmine's and bring your party here when you're craving a big Italian feast. Every dish here is massive, so I definitely recommend coming here with at least 4 people and sharing everything family style. The atmosphere, food, and service screams intimate and a good time.

  7. I really wanted to love Trattoria Dell'Arte, but unfortunately, the service was so slow and inattentive that it became impossible to fully enjoy my meal. The restaurant was bustling on the Saturday evening I was there, but luckily, my party had made reservations beforehand. To the left of the maître d', that night's selection of antipasti was on display. I recommend taking a look at the antipasto bar before you're seated – there are plenty of options, some of which are seasonal; Trattoria's website claims that the bar boasts 32 different vegetables.

The "vegetable antipasto table" section of the menu offers a choice of three for $22, or six for $32. The serving size is big enough that three is probably sufficient for one person, but six would allow two people to sample multiple dishes. It wasn't easy to decide, since many of them were enticing, but in the end, I went with the asparagus, roasted cauliflower steaks, and Sicilian eggplant caponata.

There wasn't anything particularly special about the asparagus that prompted me to order it; the spring vegetable was in season, so I was taking advantage of its featured appearance on the bar. The preparation was simple – it was sautéed, tender, and flavorful.

Likewise, I don't have any complaints about the Sicilian eggplant caponata, "a sweet & sour eggplant dish." Although, it would have been great paired with the focaccia-style bread brought to the table at the beginning of our meal, but something about the bread seemed off. It was as if it was previously stored in the freezer.

The roasted cauliflower steaks, crusted with golden raisins, almonds, and parmesan cheese, were good, but weren't substantial enough to justify calling them "steaks." In addition, the parmesan dominated the dish, preventing the cauliflower from standing out at all. Again, they weren't bad, but I wasn't super impressed with them either.

For dessert, I had the tiramisu, which was just average. Now, about the service…while we were seated quickly, it took fifteen minutes for the waitress to approach us for our order (including initial drinks, like glasses of water). Then, we waited almost an hour to receive our food. Grabbing the waitress's attention was a challenge, and sometimes we had to ask her a few times for the same thing.

On the whole, we liked our dinner, despite the inattentiveness. If evaluating these components separately, I would give the food a four and the service a two. Trattoria Dell'Arte was a little disappointing, but I'm willing to give this place a second shot.

  8. I've been coming here for years and have always loved the place. Waitstaff is always great, and all seem to have pretty cool life stories if you get the chance to talk to them.

I'd recommend the chicken parm, or the margarita pizza. Only complaint would be it's not the best value.
