  1. Remember a 3 on Yelp mean's A-Ok, and that's exactly how I felt about this place. It probably deserves a 3.5 because it is definitely above average.

First off, the service was impeccable. They accommodated our group of 9 with ease and kept checking on us from time to time without hovering. Our server was also very fun and playful which we appreciated that since we were in a playful mood.

I love beef burgers but was in the mood for a veggie burger since they make the in house. I added cheese and avocado and it was good.  I had to eat it with a knife and fork because it kept falling apart, but that was ok. The fries with garlic sauce were probably my fave. I had a sip of my friend's Mai Tai which was fabulous. I had regular lemonade which was tart. I like tart.

  2. Stopped by here for a round of drinks while waiting for our table for dinner to be ready at the Meatball Shop. The atmosphere is cozy and romantic. We took two seats at the end of the bar that was lined entirely with tea candles.

I had the Peach Smash: muddled ginger with white peach purée, shaken with makers mark and fresh lemon juice. He ordered an old fashioned, classic.

Delicious and would be back to try the other drinks on the menu as well as the food.

  3. I strolled into Trix on a lazy Sunday after coming to Williamsburg to spend an afternoon walking aimlessly and people watching. I didn't have a particular restaurant in mind, nor was I craving anything specific. I ended up dining here solely because it looked adorable and I got tired of walking around and looking at menus in storefront windows. This is unlike me. I don't randomly stumble into restaurants in unfamiliar neighborhoods. I research beforehand. I look at reviewer photos. I dissect menus. And, I scan all recent reviews for opinions regarding ambiance and service, looking for tips on what to try and what to avoid. Do you think I'm anal?

Well, I'm not! My experience at Trix gave proof to that fact and left me feeling that my OCD ways are both completely necessary and valid. The service I received here was just terrible. After ordering cocktails, I stared at my drink, sitting on the bar for 10 minutes before my inattentive waiter finally brought it over to me. After ordering, I felt forgotten. We were never checked on. I was never asked how any of my items were. When I wanted another drink, I had to flag my waiter down. And then he started making his way to the bar to put in my drink order before even asking my boyfriend what he'd like, even though his drink was clearly empty. Our food took 45 minutes to arrive. 45 minutes! And that was for appetizers! And, I think it's worth mentioning that we ordered raw oysters. RAW! What takes 45 minutes? Just shuck the damn things, and haul 'em out!

But, I will concede that the food was lovely. The oysters arrived well prepared, with no remnants of grit or bits of shell to speak of. They were accompanied by a lovely mignonette that we enjoyed thoroughly. We also ordered the polenta cakes with mushroom ragout which were decadent and rich, and very nicely presented. Our main courses were standard fare that were executed well. I had the moules frites accompanied by a tasty aioli that hit the spot. My boyfriend ordered smoked trout over grits, which was adorned with a fried egg. While he might have preferred a slightly runnier yolk, I acknowledge that perhaps we're splitting hairs and the dish, overall, was a hit.

The service was horrendous, and the two cocktails that we ordered initially were terrible. We moved on to a beer for him, and a glass of wine for me after learning our lesson. But, the food was delightful. I likely wouldn't return here, and I wouldn't advise anyone to go out of their way to dine here. But, if you live in the area and don't have anywhere to be in a hurry, you might want to roll the dice and give it a try. Just don't say I didn't warn you.

  4. Meh.  Came in for a drink while in the area (basically killing time between meals haha).  I was underwhelmed.  The drinks were expensive and while yummy, nothing super special to me.  I didn't really care for the atmosphere, it felt weird and gaudy to me?  I see other people seem to like it, so maybe I'll have to stop back in sometime and get a bite and a second go.

  5. Speed in for a drink and some oysters with some friends while waiting for some other friends. The selection of beers was pretty good and their signature cocktails all liked intriguing. The one person in our group to get a cocktail had all of us give it a sip. I didn't catch the name but it had cinnamon sprinkled around the rim of the glass. It was very well made.

The bartender we had took good care of us as well. He made the crap it off that cocktail and served our beers quickly.

In terms of the oysters, they were pretty standard. I think you have to really try to screw up oysters, though.

  6. We came here for brunch after finding out our original spot had a two hour wait. It's a decent spot, with a nautical themed bar and a cool selfie mirror in the bathroom. We got a round of drinks to start; Peach Schnapps and Bloody Mary's. I decided on a veggie burger after the options I wanted were chosen by my friends. (I have a brunch rule, don't order what someone else does). My friends got the Croque Monsieur, Merguez and Frite, Eggs Norweigan, and the Avocado BLT. The food was decent, pretty good actually. The reason why I give them 3 stars is because I feel like they could've been better, especially because the prices are a bit up there. We don't repeat brunch spots, this was a good find!

  7. Love this place– Great vibes, great bartenders. Not too much on the pricey side and the drink portions are GREAT! It's very look key, relaxing type of feeling. They have a beautiful bar design–I have yet to come across one that looks this unique and amazing!

Drinks are a must have here if you're craving a good time!

  8. Fish and grits were spot fucking on! The Belgian waffle was quite plain however. As you can see, I am scanning the menu item by item, because this is my local brunch place, and I am going to keep on coming back.
