  1. RIP Valentino's.

After the water main burst under 5th Ave earlier this winter, this entire side of the street had been shut down. In Valentino's place, this overpriced and underwhelming place came in. Disappointing to say the least.

PRICES: I'm a regular consumer of a no frills regular old deli sandwich, and the excuse for a deli sandwich that I got (see below) cost almost $9. That's highway robbery! The exact same sandwich cost $6.50 when this place was Valentino's.

FOOD: the ridiculous price MIGHT be excusable if it was a killer sandwich. But it wasn't. In fact, it was one of the worst sandwiches that I've had. The roll was dry and clearly not remotely fresh. There was barely any turkey on it, and even the lettuce tasted like it'd been sitting there for a few days.

This place sacrifices quality and competitive prices for flashy tv screen menus and stainless steel finishes.

    No thanks.

  2. We visit this place mostly after a Dr. visit up the street. It is moderately priced and fresh and clean as a whistle. They have tons of draft beers, salads, soup, sandwiches, wraps, burgers, custom pasta dishes and stir fries.

The sandwiches are huge and satisfying and custom made to order., as are the salads, burgers and pasta dishes. There is a dining area on the balcony and several tables on the main floor.

  3. I went in there for the union square chicken wrap.  I told the guy no cheese.  He repeated to me, no cheese? And said okay so he clearly heard me.  Why was it that a few minutes later, he ended up putting cheese on my wrap??  Oh, it's probably because he was too busy joking around with the other guys behind the counter.  Their customer service in general is not great. The woman at the cashier wasn't very friendly and barely greeted me but more so gestured to me to ring up my items.  What a crappy exchange!  They are getting two stars instead of one because I have had worse service elsewhere and the wrap was good BUT with all of the other gazillion good options in NYC, why spend your money here dealing with people that don't really want to be there *especially* when they are dealing with your food??  If you ask me, take your money elsewhere!

  4. Good deli! Food is fresh – great salads and lots of choices.

I've been here a couple of times and the sushi is one of my favorite selections. It's surprisingly good.

A little bit expensive but it's beyond convenient.

If you can tie one on during lunch, they have beers on tap!

  5. The nondescript deli that once occupied this space has given way to this sleek, brightly lit lunchtime monstrosity. They are offering nearly everything anyone would ever want to eat for lunch: sandwiches, salads, soups, sushi, hibachi, noodles, pastas…they've even got locally brewed craft beer on tap.*

With so many options and stations to be manned, there are accordingly staff people EVERYWHERE. Each food station has at least two people, there are three or four inefficient cashiers that — if you can excuse the stereotype — one Korean woman could out-pace easily. And most days they even have two people greeting folks at the door. Perhaps the huge staff is why everything is about $1-2 more expensive than it should be. I, for one, would sacrifice the half-hearted hello I received at the door to save that dollar, but I don't think that's how business works.

In any case, I tend to hit Uway up for the same reason I went to their predecessor: salad. As far as I can tell, having sampled a bit of most things, this is the best option here. The ingredients are fresh and the choices plentiful, the guys working there are efficient, and they even use some sort of medieval torture device to chop up your salad before mixing it up.

Even if the salads weren't tasty (they are, and they better be, since you're designing them yourself), it's worth a trip just to watch them go to town with that thing.
