“They are a byob and they conveniently have a beer and wine store inside their restaurant!”

“it is BYOB since rutherford is a dry town but some smartie thought up the idea of putting an actual liquor store in the restaurant – pretty awesome.”

“Thursdays, The General's Chicken lunch special, get extra bread to sop up the sauce.”

  1. My boyfriend and I decided to check this place out after receiving a stellar recommendation, but we're severely disappointed. The service was terrible and the food was subpar; flavors did not mesh well, and even the simplest of dishes turned out to be a disaster.

  2. The restaurant is super cozy and cute. Its BYOB and whats even better is that they have a mini wine shop right in the store- how convenient. The service was really sweet and friendly. I love the warm bread that comes out in the beginning- one of the dipping sauces with the peppers is sooooo good. I got the general tsos – I liked it, but I didn't love it… Its a different flavor than other places. I know some people do love it, I guess it just depends on the your palate. My friend got the beef tips – she said they were good but a bit greasy. Overall, its a cute place with some good food!

  3. Pretty disappointing.  Was looking forward to going to Village Gourmet for awhile because it looked so cute from the outside.  My husband and I stopped in for dinner on a Friday night, they were pretty busy because they were holding a rehearsal dinner.  They were able to sit us after a brief wait and the inside was really cute.  They have a small wine store situated in the middle of the restaurant.  Village Gourmet is byob, but if you forget to bring something with you, it's nice that they have something there for purchase.  Now, that being said the service was really lacking, which I am willing to forgive because an event was being hosted and the waitress mentioned they were short staffed.  However, the food was such a disappointment.  I had the sauteed chicken breast under the Chef's Suggestions and it was definitely not what I expected.  Prosciutto on top of chicken was not prosciutto, I think it make have been a thinly sliced piece of ham and the side were a bit dry and in desperate need of seasoning.  My husband had the village thin crust pizza, which he only managed to have a few bites of before discarding. It was a real bummer since this place looked so cute

  4. Went to this place last night July 21st for dinner because a lot of places are closed in this area on Mondays.

The reason why I took 3 stars off was because of server seem a little distracted. We got there went into the wine room that they had there to select our wine. We had to wait a while because no one came in and eventually we got the bottle and say down

Next problem we were sitting for about 15min before we got water, the next tae was seated out server gave them water and was at their table for a few minutes. Then a guy stopped by the table with bread, we are waiting eventually she comes to our table. First thing she says "WE ARE OUT OF A FEW THINGS". Gives the list of what they won't have at this time and walks away, we wait again by this time the table next to us gets their food. She takes our order and leaves a few minutes later we get a salad everything was fine at this point food was delicious

However as we are about to get the check and the order we ask for my friends left over to go. We wait again for her eventually she comes and gives the to go container and goes to the table next to us packs their good and gives them a bag. And this point I'm very annoyed with her, so we call her back and asked if she can pack the food. She's does it right at the table and walk away

We leave very unhappy with her service as an employee at the establishment. It's not like it was so busy there were 2 servers 5 tables and someone at the bar area when we were leaving.

It's also unprofessional in an establishment like that to pack someone's food right at the table.

The foods delicious just hope you get a better server

  5. I've been here twice now and each time I had great service.  The staff is very friendly and attentive the entire time.  I usually start with the General Tao's chicken as an appetizer which is good and then follow it up with a chicken penne dish.  I must say the portion is quite fair and very good.

I'm a big fan of BYOB and this restaurant offers it.  If you forget to bring wine that's not a problem as they sell wine in the restaurant for great prices.  The selection is quite impressive.  If in the neighborhood I would stop in and treat yourself to a good meal..you'll be happy you did

  6. Cool place. Dining in a wine cellar.

Its a strange setup. There is a liquor store, right in the middle, of the dining hall.
But it works. The décor kinda feels like you are dining in a wine cellar. So , somehow it works.

Food wise, I had their fusilli with primavera and grilled shrimp. They did a great job on the shrimp. It was freshly grilled. The shrimp was large, fresh and that fresh grilled shrimp flavor is great. The fusilli was cooked right and the sauce has just the right bite to it. Portions are generous.

Service is prompt and attentive. We selected a bottle from the liquor store, and it was a byob. Prices are very very fair on the wine.

  7. Byob with no cork fee… awesome!  We brought a bottle of wine and champagne.. bought a few orange juices and we were on our way to a great day! The service was friendly and the menu extensive. It was difficult ordering since it was all over the map. A mixture of breads and rolls came out at the start and they were soft and fresh. YUM. I ended up getting swordfish dumplings for an app and they were pretty bad… barely any filling in them and we're overly fshy tasting and smelling… which is a bummer since the actual dumpling outside was very tasty. They should probably find a new filling 🙂 the meatball sub I had for my entrée was absolutely delicious! Very tasty treat and I thoroughly enjoyed it. The environment is homey and the food (other than the dumplings) was bangin'. Deff would come back with more friends and more booze next time I visit my friends that live in the area.

  8. I LOVE the atmosphere here. It feels like you're in a rustic tavern in Italy. The place winds around and smack in the middle of the restaurant you will find a tiny wine shop. The menu is vast. I tried the sauteed chicken with prosciutto, sun dried tomatoes, mozzarella and demi-glaze. It was a tad too salty, but still delicious. I tasted the penne vodka which was great, but more tomato based than pink cream. The chicken Marsala was okay – I've had better. The service is stellar!

Apparently they have a take-out special mon-fri @ 5pm-7pm in which they give you a good amount of food for a really great price. ($7) I was told…

I came here again for an office lunch and WOW the bread and oils were on the money! The bread was literally perfect – melted in your mouth. Also I ordered the Southwestern Sandwich and it was really tasty. I recommended trying anything with Cajun Chicken because the flavor rocks. Very yummy place.
