Came here for a late weekday nightcap, after hanging out in the West Village. I felt that this might be more of a restaurant than a wine bar with food, but it worked out pretty well. I don't know much about wines, except that there's red and white, and wines that are older (usually) are better? Who knows. In all of my wine idiocy, the waitstaff was very helpful in picking out something good, after both of us gave our preferences of a flavor profile. The place itself is pretty tiny, dimly lit at night, and pretty good digs for a date. My only qualm that it can be a little cramped, and the tables are very close to each other, but my thought is just to speak a little softer, and sit a little closer. Ohhhh, yeah.
Service was excellent, as previously mentioned, and incredibly helpful. Prices are on par for a West Village wine bar, with wines and beers coming in about $9-10 per glass. Didn't get a chance to try the food, but I managed to glance at what the waitstaff was bringing to other tables, and it all looked pretty darn good. The charcuterie and cheeses sounded pretty good, and from the looks of everything, it seemed like they know what they're doing here with the meats and cheeses. From the website, it seems that the rest of the menu consists mostly of small bites, snacks, and sandwiches, but there are some ingredients that are more unique than your typical sandwich shop, so definitely worth a try for a casual snack or low-key meal.
Apparently, there are free wine tastings on Mondays, which aren't a bad idea at all, if you're looking to learn a little about wine, and get sloshed along the way, ha. Might be a little aggressive on a Monday night, but hey, gotta live it up a little. Overall, I found Vin Sur Vingt to be a bit more intimate and the overall waitstaff more personable than at Amelie, which used to be my go-to wine bar in the area. After coming here, however, that may have changed. I'll be back to give a try for a weekday or weekend date night.
Vin sur Vingt could humble even the worst wine snob. These people know their vino and ordering is just a beautiful experience.
Came on a first date, and after sitting there awkwardly staring at the menu, both of us trying to impress each other but clearly confused out of our minds, one of the sommeliers saved us. She let us sample a few reds that were exactly what I'd described I wanted. And a good chunk of change later, I was a happy drunk.
We didn't try the food though the charcuterie and cheese plates sounded amazing. I'll definitely be back for those.
In sum, Vin sur Vingt is what the west village is all about. And in a sea full of wine bars, it truly stands out for its expertise. Thank you for existing!
This location is smaller and cozier than Flatiron, but better resembles a french wine bar. They have a vast selection of wines and food for a nice, casual dinner. It can get a little loud at night, but you can still hear your friends talk. Be prepared to sit in close proximity to other tables!
We came after eating at Scarpetta to have some post-dinner drinks. We were so full but the smells of freshly made bread, chocolate cake, and garlicky escargot filled the entire restaurant. It was amazing. Next time we'll just have dinner here!
Free wine tastings on Wednesdays but call ahead to confirm. I think they change it up some nights. I love this little spot for the knowledgeable and friendly staff. They tend to move at a relaxed pace so you'll want to go here when you can stick around for a bit. The bites are pretty good too, I've only had a few but they make do with their small menu.
This is a great place. It has a fantastic selection of wines in a super super cozy situation with awesome taste in music, ahem, for us folks on the back 40 and living and loving the wine life. Oh yes! It's heaven. No stupid tv's, real candles on the tables, the bartender who really is one, not some air-head. The place is very close to the Village Vanguard, and I can't wait to go back and try the food. Definitely a great place
Good wine bar. Didn't try the wine because we were waiting for the rain to stop to go to another bar.
It has few options for other things that are not wine and the beer is ultra expensive. The beer of the day which was the cheapest was $9! The other ones $12!
The wines are french only so again if you don't know french wines you don't have other options. At least you do have other options of places to go 😉
IN SHORT: A sliver-sized space in the West Village with a few round tables for two and a couple more seats at the bar. All the staff is French – take their recommendations.
THE STORY: Despite its tiny quarters, the wine list at Vin Sur Vingt is thorough and exceptional, with over 50 varieties by the glass from Alsace, Burgundy, Champagne, and the like. The all-French wine list also changes frequently, enticing anyone to come back and perhaps even finish a bottle of one of their more special selections.
Small bites like quiche and tartines with brie, salmon, or duck are also available on the menu, though the wine bar's fromage selection may prove just as extraordinary as their wine list. For a lovely beginning or end to a quiet date night, Vin Sur Vingt offers a wine and cheese pairing with 3 cheeses and 3 wines for $29. This, if you ask me, is better than any dessert the Village has to offer.
*Happy Hour Review* this place is the perfect little west village wine bar. There's small tables and an intimate bar, people sit close to chat with one another, and servers are attentive and knowledgeable about the wine & bubbly.
Their happy hour kind of sucks/doesn't exist. We ordered glasses of champagne for $15 each at 6PM on a Monday. They had a half price bottle of rosè special, but we weren't feeling that.
The women next to us seemed to be enjoying their meat & cheese platter- so I definitely come back here and try that, but overall this place is just a super cute neighborhood gem with a deliciously curated wine and bubbly list. I can't wait to go back again soon!
