  1. This place is a nice out of the way Japanese Restaurant with mostly neighorhood clients and since it's my neighborhood I have visited often.
Lunching here is my family's favorite on weekend. The food is fresh, price is reasonable and the selection is good. The service is quick and the staff is friendly.

We usually get Take Out and take advantage of the free California Roll with Take Out orders over $20. Free Spicy Tuna Roll with an order of over $30.
We also dine here often for dinner and we are very happy with the dinner slections.
If you are in my neighborhood and need a quiet place with good food stop by.

  2. Good Local Sushi Restaurant and the Big Salad That Came With It!

    Food: 3.5 Stars

The best way I can explain it is this: It is a local sushi place so don't expect the world.

The sushi is good here, but nothing blew me away. Everything about the plating, taste, portions was standard or above average.  The sushi looked fresh so that is a place. The tuna roll was standard, good portion of tuna to the rice.

I must say that the salad the sushi dinner came with was much larger than I had expected. It is the standard salad you receive at most Japanese restaurants, but approximately twice the size (portion wise). It was average, again nothing that really pops out other than the portion size.

The Tempura ice cream was good, nothing spectacular, but the green tea ice cream was good and the tempura batter wasn't too thick or thin.

The katsu dishes look interesting and the bento boxes are worth the price.

Above average at its best (makes me sound like a broken record).

    Service: 3.25 Stars
On the whole the service was good, but since we were the only patrons in the restaurant we were ignored once for the majority of our meal. The staff spent a lot of time taking care of large amount of take-out and delivery orders. It was a little difficult to grab their attention to order dessert and ask for the check.
Other than the occasional MIA service at times, the staff was polite friendly and most importantly the food came out fairly quickly.

    Ambiance: 3.25 Stars
Since the restaurant was deserted when we ate here (ate at 5:30pm) it's harder to get a good feel of the restaurant. The overall layout is basic, nothing over the top. If the restaurant was more crowded I get the feeling I would get a normal feeling for the restaurant like I did with the food. Nothing flamboyant, nothing amazing, but nothing bad. Once again, above average at its best.

    Overall: 3.25 Stars
The restaurant seems to rely heavily on takeout from the neighborhood which means the overall quality of the food is good.
There is nothing amazing about Wakamatsu, but they provide a good service, a nice dinner box, sushi platter, and a nice dessert.
The price range is about right for Queens and well below the prices of Manhattan.
If you looking for a no thrills sushi place in Queens, Wakamatsu is a restaurant to give a try.

  3. Our go-to local Sushi place. Good prices and the sushi is always fresh. Its a bit empty inside at times, but this is more due to a strong delivery-take out business then anything wrong with the food.

  4. This is one of the best sushi restaurants in Maspeth.  You can order three rolls for $10 and they don't skimp on it.  The rolls are a very decent rice, not too heavy on the rice and a good amount of meat.  This was very satisfying after going to a bunch of sushi places that skimped on the good parts.  Service is friendly and it's usually not crowded.
