  1. Came through the intersection of Church and Utica and took the first sign of street parking I could find – added bonus the meter was out of order!
When in Brooklyn- East Flatbush to be exact it's not hard to find a West Indian place, I saw another but it had a "B" in the window, pass.
This place is small, a man inside was selling reggae mixtapes (CD's) and it was pretty busy with customers. A long glass display with baked goods and then sides for your meals. The main dishes are in the back to be brought out, then the sides. The menu was typical Jamaican fare, I did not see any roti dishes.
They have three different sizes (S-M-L) for takeout only, they have about three booths for people to eat, but I didn't see anyone eating there. At the very end of the counter is a cash register and a lady who takes your order then gives you a receipt and then you wait for your food to be brought out. Pretty standard for the area. I waited about 5 mins for my food.
I had a small oxtail ($8) with white rice, I asked for less rice and more salad – I don't think that was relayed to kitchen staff – I just got a whole bunch of salad packed on top of the rice and oxtail. It was OK I have definitely had better the oxtail was not fall off the bone tender, the gravy was seasoned well, rice nice and fluffy. I also got a small beef soup, everyday has a different soup. This was really good and tasty, I love Jamaican soups they are so hardy. $3.50 for a small which was probably a 32 oz cup filled with 4-5 big pieces of beef, soft dumplings, chayote, yam and carrots! They have some $5 small meals too – fried, stewed, jerk or curry chicken! I saw them coming out and they were packed to the brim!
I think I have been here before, and will definitely come again (as long as you can find street parking)

  2. As many of you know I am no stranger to Caribbean restaurants on Flatbush Avenue. When it comes to fast casual spots I consider CJs to be the best on this strip. That's saying alot because Flatbush Ave probably has more Jamaican spots per mile than any other street in the U.S.

The quality of the food is what sets this place apart. These aren't new age takes on cairribean dishes. Here you get traditional Jamaican dishes done correctly. My entrée of choice is the oxtail with rice and peas (extra oxtail gravy on the rice)with plantains. This combo is a staple at any Jamaican spot but you would be surprised how often they get it wrong. Not at Cjs, the oxtail is always lean and tender, the rice has that perfect texture and the plantains are never taste like they've been sitting out for two days. The seasoning is always just right and the portion is more than sufficient for the price. For about $10 I get a container full of delectable oxtails and rice.

5 stars for CJ's on Flatbush They consistently offer a flawless version of my favorite Jamaican dish. Their staff is always respectful and efficient. And they are open late which earns them extra points in my book.

  3. The food is good here my boyfriend loves it he comes here all the time. The sweet macaroni salad is delicious I get it every time a come here. You must try the pepper shrimp which is spicy but good also try the pig tails they are tender my boyfriend loves them with the peas and rice. This place is always crowded and stays open late. So you are going to wait.

  4. The food is amazing and always hot. This is a great Togo place and a true Jamaican restaurant. The lines can get a bit long but for a bite on the run I'd recommend here. Don't bother sitting in to eat because the tables are always filled with customers waiting for their orders.

  5. So my Nephews have been telling me about C&J every Sunday after church and raved about how good the food is.

So finally two weeks ago I decided we are going to C&J's on Utica…… Let me tell you when my Nephew Lenny said the fried chicken was good – he was not telling a lie.

Since I am on my health Kick………….. I ordered an order of fried chicken with a side of steamed cabbage, and macaroni salad. Now the fried chicken comes with a sweet sauce that I had them put on the side – which gives it that unique kick.

Also the staff is VERY NICE!!!!!!!!!!!! Let me tell you I was so ANNOYING and they still handled me well………. and the cashier – she is also very nice!

    Happy Eating!

  6. Delicious food which can mean long lines so plan accordingly. I often order the jerk chicken meal which is pretty yummy. They also offer baked goods, soup, and porridge. There is very limited seating, it's more of a takeout eatery. You can call your order in, but it's not as if it allows you to skip the line to pay and pickup. Confused. Overall, great food and that's all that matters.
