We came on a Saturday early afternoon and this place was packed. We didn't have a reservation, but waited maybe about 25 min for a table.
Heads up, THIS IS PRICEY. Damn 2 eggs and a piece of toast for $15? Ok ok fine. It's organic…
Split between 4 of us, we ordered the avocado toast ($18), smoked sable Benedict ($20) and the wagyu steak and eggs ($24). All very delicious, but not worth the price! (Except for maybe the wagyu, so good.. But you get like 2 bites each).
With tip and tax, $20 each. Not terrible for a meal… But we definitely posted up elsewhere and grabbed more to each (here's to 2nd lunch!).
Decor was very cute, very hipster.. And definitely a little strange (calling out to you, HUGE ant on the ceiling).
Overall…. Don't think I would come back mainly because the prices are so high (for me at least). Food is good, but maybe breakfast for me doesn't need to be so high end.
I've only been here once for drinks, but I must say that — in my opinion — Cafe Cluny has the best martinis around. Their version has garlic-infused vodka, tomato water and a bountiful number of olives. Paired with an attentive and friendly staff, what more could you ask for?
My friend had the bright idea to nurse his hangover at this West Village favorite. We were a few minutes early (it opens at 9 on Saturday) so we took a stroll down the avenue, but even 5 minutes after its opening, the place was overrun by the usual West Village suspects: families, kids, visitors, and early bird lady brunchers.
Smoked Sable Benedict (Sauce Choron, Pumpernickel, Arugula, Shaved Fennel, Casteltelvetrano Olives) was pretty good, though a very small portion for a nearly $20 dish.
I land in the just-under 4-star terrain for Cafe Cluny based on value. But if you've got 30-40 bucks to burn on breakfast and a drink, it's one of the charming options in this part of the city.
I've only had late night drink at Cafe Cluny, so can't say much about the food here but I like the ambiance and the staff is very friendly. I had a glass of Pinot Noir ($15) from Benton Lane, Willamette Valley in Oregon from 2012. Very good.
A trendy, cozy neighborhood place with great food. I loved my avocado toast, although $18 is pricey. But everything is in that range. This is the kind of place that charges $5 for iced tea and $3 for a Diet Coke. The soup was $13, the frisee salad, $17.
One standout — the fresh artichoke platter ($16). I'd go back for this any time.
Looking at reviews I was most excited to make the trek down to try this place out! It looked absolutely delicious. From the moment you walk in you get an old school diner type feel with a modern twist. Unfortunately you cannot make a reservation for brunch, nor can you put your name down until the entire party has arrived – even if they are just parking the car….so me and my 8 year old niece were left no other choice but to sit by the bar and wait, we weren't even offered a menu to look at!!!
Once the third party member arrived the wait wasn't long until we were finally seated.
The food: I ordered the club sandwich, hold the bacon, which I imagine to be much better with the bacon. It was okay, but the real selling point – the fries. They were crispy and well seasoned to perfection. The table shared the brioche French toast which came highly recommended and lived up to the hype.
The service: was okay at best. The waiter never came by for a refill of my coffee. I had to repeatedly ask someone else for more, and at the end felt rather neglected. The cups are small and I only ended up having 1.5 glasses…. Most certainly not enough for a Sunday morning.
My friend lives in the area and claims Cafe Cluny has the best burger in the city. Say no more, say no more, to Cluny we went.
We had an early dinner, so at 5:30pm on a Saturday the restaurant was pretty empty. The host asked if we had reservations, we said no, and he had to think about where to sit is. "I think we have a table in the back," he said, so to the back we went…passing numerous other empty tables. Confusion, yes, but we didn't care.
The burger is in fact amazing. After reaching for the ketchup, my friend wanted to smack my hand for doing so. He insisted I take a bite without it because it's so juicy. IS IT EVER JUICY…drip drip drip alllllll over my plate. (I still added ketchup after…habits…oh well.)
If you're wondering, the fries are good too. However, know your wines when ordering drinks, the wait staff doesn't know the difference between moscato and grappa, we learned this the hard way but nothing a new glass of corrected wine can't fix!
Also, they bring you freshly cut pieces of chocolate with your bill, makes the $22 burger price tag a little sweeter.
Cafe Cluny is a charming brunch spot, though the prices are somewhat inflated. A friend and I waited about 20 minutes during peak brunch time on a Saturday, which is not bad. I had the breakfast club, and she the avocado toast. My sandwich was delicious and I loved the fries it came with. My friend also enjoyed her toast, which included a poached egg and small salad. Yum. I ordered a pink lemonade, but when the waiter explained it to me, he didn't tell me it was a soda (which I hate) so he let me send it back. Overall a great experience!
