  1. 5/5 amazing salmon egg pita! I ordered the normal salmon pita and added an egg for a larger piece of fish, but you can also get the smaller one for $6. My bf got the chicken shawarma plate and he really enjoyed it. The chicken was super juicy and tender.

I really wish they had this concept in west coast. The salmon egg pita idea is amazing and it was the best pita sandwich I've ever head.

  2. For a place that bribes customers to write a review in exchange for a free cookie, it's not  too bad of a place to eat! (They also make sure you give them 5 stars before giving you your treat…) This is a cute little place in the Union Square area I stopped by while I was walking uptown to the area. I ordered the falafel pan and was pretty satisfied with my meal. For a small person like me, I would have been full and happy with the pita but the pan looked too good to pass up! Everything on the pan was so flavorful and complemented each other.

Side note: if any of you are wondering why it's called Taboonette, their sister store is Taboon in Hell's Kitchen. I believe the workers mentioned that most of their baked goods are delivered from Taboon.

  3. Cute little spot with great tasting options you can take to go or grab a seat at one of the three communal tables & a few counter seats to enjoy. The decor on the wall with stacks of firewood looks cool.

The falafel pita could have been a bit crunchier, but tasted fresh and flavorful. I had a bite of the chicken shawarma which was pretty standard. But the bite I had of the lamb shawarma was great! It was succulent and tender and a little fatty which gave it a great flavor.  It looks like all the pitas come with a side of kettle chips (not sure if they're made in house). Even the fries were double fried to give it a perfectly crispy texture. Next time I'll try the seasoned fries and maybe a hummus bowl. I can't believe they also serve breakfast food all day too! Quite a selection for a little hole in the wall.

I'll definitely come back next time I'm in the area.

  4. After hearing great things about Taboon, I decided to give its sister restaurant a try for lunch with a couple of friends. After reading through a few reviews, I decided to go with the salmon plate with yellow rice.

The plating of the dish was really great as it was served in a mini skillet. The piece of fish was cooked well and had a great rub that provided a nice flavor. They served it with a spicy salsa that really packed a punch, but was cooled off a bit by the yogurt and rice–both of which were tasty as well.

Overall, this place has some excellent food and provides a quality bite without much wait time. Prices are a bit higher than most quick lunch food places, but it is definitely worth it.

  5. LOVED IT! I went for lunch on a week day. It was pretty busy and there were no places to sit, but Union Square is so close. It was nice to eat there!

The food was so delicious. Just thinking about it makes me want to go back badly. I had the kale warm salad (veganlicious)! I highly recommend to try it. My friend had the chicken and she loved it also. Everything was so fresh and tasty. The staff was also super nice, even if they were really busy.

  6. The avid foodie in me is never truly satisfied, always feeling there's something better out there (kinda like girls out shopping ohhhh I went there, I did) so rarely there comes along a place that knocks me off my feet, you know it got to be the best, Right…?
Having eaten a tons of Mediterranean joints, which btw the city is overflowing with, I wasn't really expecting much its way like ehhh yet another shawarma or falafel so what, But I could not have been any wrong.

Got myself the Chicken Shawarma Rice Plate, Best Decision for the day. One of the most succulent and flavour full chicken pieces, I never knew chicken breast can be that tender and juicy. The yellow rice reminds you of the sweet sweet Biryani Rice made to perfection with just enough spice to give color and aroma. And that side Salad Ohh god I could eat it by tons. WOW this place good or what.
This ones a Keeper for sure yow…

  7. Not bad.. Not impressed..
The menu looked good but I thought the food was just okay in general.. The falafels are mediocre.. I'm sort of underwhelmed since the place had great ratings..
I'm not sure if I would come back to try other things.. Perhaps when I got hungry while shopping nearby.. It wasn't bad.. there was nothing worth writing too much about..

  8. Ate here for lunch today. Really great quality lunch in Union square. There are always tons of Mediterranean/ halal options in New York so this place may not stand out to you at first. I had the falafel plate with hummus and brown rice. The falafel were crispy and warm and moist. The portion was generous too. A little expensive for lunch but honestly worth it for portion size and quality
