  1. they have a decent pre fixe menu with lots to offer at great prices.  appetizer, salad, entree, coffee/tea, dessert for under $20.  can't beat that.  salad was good but vinegarette was too vinegary.  mussels were tasty in a nice tomato sauce.  had the capellini del mondo w/shrimp and calamari.  shrimp was a little overcooked but calamari was good.  they had foccacia type bread which was yummy.  and for dessert, tried the tiramisu and was pleasantly surprised.

  2. I have been here several times & my experience just never gets better. It is basic Italian food, nothing to brag about. The restaurant definitely needs some updating, as everything is out of style, including the menu. I've had the pesto bowtie pasta and of course, regular dishes like fried calamari and baked clams, but nothing WOWed me. Some dishes even lacked flavor. The parking lot is small and there is a party room above the restaurant, which is just as outdated. Staff is pretty good, but until someone makes me go there, due to a special occasion, I will never willingly go on my own.

  3. Del Mondo has been on Staten Island for a while now.  They always have a crowd.  From the great dinner prices to the drink prices, they are spot on.  To begin they bring out a basket filled with two types of bread.  One is a loaf that's crispy and flavorful.  Another are these squares with sauce on them.  Then they give you a bowl of roasted garlic in oil to dip it in.  It's delicious.  Their eggplant rollatini is so flavorful, you'll be craving more!  Their Caesar salad has a creamy dressing that's tasty.  Then I like to get the chicken with fried eggplant and prosciutto.  It comes with potatoes and a vegetable medley.  They give a large portion and it tastes good.  For dessert I like the tiramisu.  It has more of a whipped cream flavor which I prefer.

  4. I would give it 3 1/2 stars if I could.

I came here earlier today with the wife after attending a function.  As I said in my tip, we ordered off the fixed price menu and got a lot of food for a reasonable price.

After taking our drink order we were given a basket of bread/focaccia.  It was accompanied by a plate of roasted garlic in olive oil.  The garlic was roasted perfectly, you could spread it on the bread like butter.

For our appetizers we had the Eggplant Rollatini and the Zuppa di Mussels.  I must have enjoyed my mussels because I had to use the bread  with the garlic to sop up the sauce. The eggplant rollatini was good, perfect appetizer size of two pieces.

Next up came the entrees, the wife got the Veal Cardinale (veal medallions with roasted peppers and mozzarella cheese in veal stock).  I choose the filet stuffed with crabmeat.  Both entrees were served with vegetables and roasted potatoes.  As usual, the wife got the better entrée though mine was good, I just needed a little fresh lemon juice.

We completed the meal with dessert and cappuccinos.  The cappuccinos are a decent size I like to say like a small birdbath :).  We had the tiramisu (my favorite) and the pistachio ice cream.  I have to say the tiramisu was in a small individual serving cup and was really good, not too sweet as some others I have had.

I wouldn't overlook this place if you are in the area.  The food is good quality and the service is very good.  There is definitely nothing wrong with sitting in a good Italian restaurant and having Dean Martin/Frank Sinatra playing in the background.
