  1. This ice cream is so expensive. This ice cream is so yummy though! It's creamy with hoighty toighty flavors. I had the basic B obviously…my husband got the shade. The specialty cones are delicious. To be fair I think one of the best desserts I've ever had is boxed funfetti cake so I'm obviously partial to this cone creation. I missed the squish marshmallows that other posted about and now undoubtedly need to go back for those alone. Would bring friends here for something unique to try.

  2. Obviously I follow foodbabyny on the gram. Who doesn't. As he posts every other day for this place, I had to come check it out.

After going to dim sum at palace 88 which is 2 blocks away from this place, we decided to trek out of the most china-like area of chinatown deep into the hipster lower east side/jewish area.

I tried to taste as many as possible but as there was already a long line, I felt guilty. It was packed on a Sunday afternoon : good business

Of the flavors I have tasted/ordered:

-Milk Money – very milky and creamy. I like that it doesn't have the after taste of milk
-Happy Panda – the spice is strong with this one! doesn't taste like sorbet..very strong horchata spice
-9am – my favorite. vietnamese coffee flavor that did not taste too sweet or heavy
-Shade – really chocolate-y and rich

Overall pros: good flavor, the creamiest of ice creams

Cons: pricey, the guy behind the counter who served me looked super annoyed/dismissive, some of the flavors can be extremely strong/heavy/spicey. I had 2 scoops and felt like I couldn't breathe after bc the ice cream was that dense

Definitely worth a visit if in the area. The other servers were super nice(i guess i just got unlucky)

  3. Second time here and I'll admit it, I'm in love.  If I lived closer, I would probably just move in.

I need to get my hands on one of those crazy ice cream sandwich + ice cream on a cone creations they're always featuring on Instagram…How does one request one of those without a slight tinge of shame?

  4. I've wanted to come here for a while since I heard of it from Yelp. It's too out of the way for me to casually go, but I was finally in the neighborhood once and stopped by around 9:30, after dinner. There was a line, but it didn't take long. It gave me just enough time to decide which flavors I wanted to sample. I sampled Milk Money, American Beauty, and Tea Dance. I'm sure they're all good once I taste more, but Tea Dance was my favorite so I ended up with that one in a pink coconut almond macaroon cone.

Tea Dance reminded me of milk tea in ice cream form with Nilla wafers (or maybe I'm crazy). You could really taste the tea, and the combination of lemon with it was really nice. I really just got the pink cone because it was pink, but it did actually taste like coconut and it went well with the ice cream. I wish this was closer because I really loved the ice cream. I will definitely be back to try other flavors!

  5. Had the 9AM and the Food Baby on the Blue Corn cone ($8.50).

One of the best scoops of ice cream in the lower east side. LES has got plenty of heavy hitters in the ice cream game but Ice & Vice is really killing it!

The Food Baby was edging on being a cluster**** of a bunch of sweet flavors + sprinkles + cake pieces but it really worked and paired well with a more relaxed/traditional flavor like the 9AM. More accurately, the Food baby is a Concorde Grape flavor mixed with donut soil, raspberry coulis, and rainbow sprinkles.

The 9AM is a vietnamese coffee ice cream–a flavor I don't usually order–with donut truffle. I'm not really sure what donut truffle is, but I'm definitely a fan. Get this.

  6. While the regular scoops in a cup don't have the same Insta-ready whimsy as other frozen treats debuting this last year, ICE & VICE completely makes up for it with their killer flavor concoctions.  Our group of 3 sampled almost all of them- and each was a taste-bud pleasing winner that made for a perfect after dinner treat on a summer's eve.  My personal favorite being "Shade" – a dark chocolate-centric concoction.

It's a small shop with limited seating – so be prepared to snag a bench outside and watch the world go by – or to stroll the LES as you lick!

They definitely get props for handling the long lines at lightning speed.  I'll be anxious to go back to try some of their more creative cookie concoctions, as well as their specialty flavored cones!

  7. Love all the creative flavors they have here (they don't really have regular flavors). The tea dance is yum & I recently tried the bath salts flavor with the blue corn cone. Now I guess I can say I've tried bath salts and sound like a badass.
But jokes aside (drugs are bad kids), the bath salts flavor was good, but I'm not sure if it would be for everyone. I liked the ice cream part a lot but didn't really dig the pine stracciatella pieces. The cone worked well with my flavor but seemed just a tad bit stale. Maybe that's just the texture of the corn though. I'll give them the benefit of the doubt because I like them.

They have free water which is always nice. The inside is small, but clean and cute. I apologize to those who may have seen me & my friends there the other day and wanted to sit because we basically took up half of the seats. And also one of my friends has a tendency to talk real loud and I felt like the entire place could hear every word he was saying (awkward).
So in short, it's not really a good place for groups or conversation… Go for the ice cream and leave!

  8. Dear YDiary,

I wasn't sure it'd ever happen, but I think I had my first real orgy.

I went to Ice & Vice for the first time yesterday. About three people sat at tables. One man sat in a corner near the windows and seemed to be enjoying himself.

From behind the counter, two men greeted us. I felt a bit shy to ask — maybe they noticed — so one man offered, "Let me know if you want to sample anything." Thank god D stepped in and asked for a sample of everything! I tried to be as natural as possible and said "can I try that too" every time she asked for something else. What can I say? It was very hot outside.

D got with Chai Waffle and Milk $$$. I got to take a bite of Chai Waffle before she went off with them. My tongue said he was spicy and thick and crunchy.

Okay, then I met Nutella Pie and Basic B. Hello! I am not a sugar prude after all. Basic B described herself as "Mexican Vanilla, Black Lava Sea Salt". She seemed really confident about that. Nutella Pie was a little reserved — the chocolate part was apparent, but it took some digging to find out that she had a pretzel crust. She was also wearing stale potato chips, which didn't taste very good on her. Maybe that's an acquired taste that an amateur like me can't understand…yet.

I know you won't judge me when I say that I attacked Nutella Pie — sweet unthawed virgin frigidity — with a plastic spoon. She didn't seem to mind.

Basic B reminded me a bit of Goldilocks — didn't melt too fast or too slow, ya know? Because an ice cream that melts too fast is too drippy to eat-eat. And an ice cream that melts too slowly comes off as crystalline-old and uncaring, like it's still dealing with trauma from being abandoned in the back of the freezer. Nutella Pie and Basic B probably had normal commercial kitchen upbringings where delight was probably the norm.

I'm planning to visit again this weekend. Hope to meet other exciting flavors. More details later. Wish me luck, YDiary!
