  1. I had low expectations since I'm a fan of meat but surprisingly, I didn't miss it at all during this meal. I came with 4 good friends so we were able to try many things. My favorites were the wontons, jap chae, and pineapple fried rice. The mei fun noodle soup was a bit bland for our taste but is definitely a healthy option.

  2. Jujube is a vegan and Asian restaurant. They have Chinese, Thai, and Japanese inspired dishes with and without fake meat protein options.

I came here very hungry for lunch on a Monday afternoon.
I ordered spring rolls and the pineapple fried rice. I was so hungry. I bit into the spring roll and the temperature of the roll was not hot. The second bite was all frozen. Both spring rolls were frozen…. !!!! I couldn't finish it, but I nimbled on the ends that were cooked.

Then came the fried rice, and my lunch was saved. Man, it was delicious. Just enough saltiness and soy sauce balanced with the avocado crunch on top and warm pineapples for sweetness. It was really nice and I'd come here again for that!

Maybe the whole frozen-food thing was a one time occurrence, so I'll try it again one day. When I do, I'll update my review.

  3. Can't believe it took me this long to try this place.. The appetizers were okay. We got the tofu skin wraps and the samosas. Will try something else next time. Our entrees though, were soooooo good. We got the yaki udon noodles and the general tso's soy protein.. The yaki udon noodles were perfection, although next time I may ask them to go light on the sauce.. And the general tso's soy protein was so crispy and delicious that i have discovered a new appreciation for vegan food!

  4. Came here for my friend's farewell dinner and she was the only vegetarian. But I had such a great experience here!! First off I gotta say, our server was awesome! He was super attentive and friendly, nothing but smiles. SO super plus. The interior was also really nice, it was cozy and comfy.

As for the food, this is what I got to try:
Wraps Tofu Skin- Everything about this was great. The sauce really completed it!
Hot and Sour Soup- This was one of the best hot and sour soups I've had before, super yummy.
BBQ Ribs Vegan- My friend ordered this dish and she insisted I try some..and wow it was goood. The sauce was really good, the "ribs" tasted exactly like the Chinese roast pork…I would totally order this dish the next time I come here.
Sauteed Shredded Bean Curd- I loved this dish because it was sauteed like perfectly…everything about this dish was great.
Yaki Udon- This was actually what I ordered for myself…and it was my least favorite. i mean don't get me wrong it was still decent, but the sauce was just a little..not what I expected. Like the sauce seemed a bit too bitterish.

Overall I would definitely come again!

  5. I am by no means a vegan, nor consider myself an "expert" when it comes to vegan cuisine. I'm too much of a carnivore. Hell, I can probably count on my fingers the number of times I've been to a vegan restaurant. But what I can appreciate are great tastes and big flavors, and Jujube Tree has plenty of both.

I just moved to the neighborhood and am a new Astorian (is that the proper term?) looking to broaden my palate with the endless array of food options in the area. Came here with a friend the other night. Given that the only green foods I've eaten as of late have been green peanut M&M and that my risk of getting scurvy was at an all time high, I figured this place would be a smart choice.

The interior is fairly prototypical – clean, medium-sized space, dark wooden tables with options for bench seating, and brick walls with limited decor. No frills. The menu is pretty extensive for a vegan place (at least that's what my friend told me), and we settled on going family-style with the curry samosas, kale avocado salad, and the bibimbop. The curry samosas were bonkers, better than any I've had at any of the Indian or Thai joints in Queens. Very light, with a thin pastry, and full of flavor. The kale avocado salad was equally as tasty — fresh veggies, perfectly dressed, and the marinated mushrooms put the dish over the top. Okay, the bibimbop… while the seitan wasn't exactly the perfect substitute for fatty, meaty bulgogi, it was still decent; and all the other flavors were on point. The dish was beautifully presented and the accompanying rice and veggies were fantastic. And the gochujang (red sauce), was the perfect spicy complement to round out the dish.

The service was fine. Our waiter was friendly, and the food came out fairly quickly. Between the two of us the final bill came out to $45 including tax and tip. A little on the pricier side in my opinion for veggies, but again I'm not sure what's considered expensive when it comes to vegan food.

All in all, a great experience. I can see why this place has become so popular, especially in the non-GMO, organic, hormone-free, gluten-fee, grass-fed, free-range landscape that is New York City. Even with all the restrictions that come with a vegan menu, Jujube Tree finds a way to serve delicious, hits-the-spot food that almost makes me forget I'm not eating meat. Almost.

  6. Best vegan place around Astoria.. Came here twice so far and both entrees I got were amazing.. The beef pepper seitan had tremendous amount of taste and the Chinese broccoli tasted so good with the black pepper sauce. The second time I came I got the general tso's soy protein because everyone around me was getting it and let me tell you this dish is a must when you come here.

  7. I love love loveeeee this place! The yummiest and freshest Asian cuisine I've found in the area. Everything is vegetarian and you'd be surprised at how diverse and different their dishes are. Usually with all vegan restaurants, I get bored of the same mundane repetitive combinations. But this place knows what they're doing! I've dined in and had delivery- both times, I was very happy with my meal 🙂

  8. We probably tried 5 apps that night. Everything was pretty delish — from the scallion pancakes with mango salsa topping (we ended up ordering 2), veggie dumplings, spring roll, summer roll, and fried wonton. I would probably skip out on the fried wonton on my next visit here. Service was great, no complaints.

Summary: A solid 3.8 rating, nothing left me lingering for more vegan dishes, but if i was hungry and looking for vegetarian cooking in Astoria I would probably stop by, again.
