Komegashi Japanese Restaurant

“Gyoza was delightful (just salty enough), the Newport Roll's tempura shrimp was crispy and the Sashimi dinner was plentiful.”

“I tend to come here during lunch hours as I used to work in Exchange Pl and usually prefer this place over Honshu mainly because of ramen.”

“The miso soup that came with this dish was also quite delicious and I'm definitely someone that either loves or hates the Miso soup.”

  1. Komegashi is a great place to get Japanese comfort food.

Try the beef curry udon – think thin tender slices of beef marinated in the most hearty and spicy curry broth accompanied by the most bouncy udon noodles. Slurp! So good.

We also ordered the Big Ball sushi roll –  which is spicy tuna and tempura flakes wrapped in sushi rice with yellowtail and avocado on top. It was the perfect combination of salty and creamy with a little bit of texture thrown in.

Probably one of the better meals I've had in a while – and the simplest.

    Komegashi never disappoints.

  2. I had their salmon teriyaki today, haven't eaten here for a while so will try their sushi next run.  The salmon was slightly over cooked so that was a bit of a bumer.  Service was good and attentive, server came back many times to refill our tea.  My friend got their spicy noodle lunch special, looked really spicy.  She enjoyed it but the noodles looked to be the type they use for dolly noodles so not too impressed.  Maybe next time see what the udon noodles look like.

  3. This is my go to sushi spot in the neighborhood. It's easily accessible if you're in the Paulus Hook section of town.

All the dishes here are fresh and well done. Happy hour is 5-7pm every day. Sweet deal! Make sure to get the Ika (basically fried squid tentacles).

Tonight I felt my salmon skin hand roll was a bit too strong tasting and that's because they were serving wild salmon tonight. I may be the only weirdo in the world that likes farm raised more.

Definitely stop in if you haven't yet and if you're visiting this is a great place to grab lunch or dinner.

  4. Solid sushi joint. Freshest in JC in my opinion. So if you're willing to walk a little further, I'd definitely suggest Komegashi vs. Honshu.

  5. I think this is probably the closest to authentic Japanese restaurant around in JC as you can get. In my opinion their best offering are their ramen lineup that I thought was quite decent without having to go to Mitsuwa or Fort Lee. Definitely thought this location is better than the one in Newport. I tend to come here during lunch hours as I used to work in Exchange Pl and usually prefer this place over Honshu mainly because of ramen.

This time however I decided to get one of their lunch bento boxes and I was quite pleased with the amount of food I got. Salad did take up quite a big portion of the box but I thought they did really well with the tempura frying. It was a quite filling lunch to be honest priced at $8.95. So overall I thought 4 stars is a pretty rating for them. I never had to wait when i was here for lunch however can't speak for dinner. I think definitely a good lunch spot if you work around the area you probably either heard about it or been here already 🙂

  6. Delicious ramen (and other goods) in a quiet setting along Montgomery.

You're greeted with a dish of edamame as soon as you're seated. The menu has Japanese standards (teriyaki, katsu), with a formidable sushi selection and about a half-dozen ramens to choose from. The tonkotsu ramen was a huge bowl of silky, pork-y broth filled with tender ramen noodles, roasted pork, fish slices, and a soft-boiled egg. Immensely satisfying, especially on a grey drizzly day.

Head out for an early dinner to take advantage of their happy hour: cheap gyoza make a great start to any meal.

  7. Service was good.  Had the sweet and spicy roll.  It was okay.  Ordered the beef udon soup.  That was okay.  Nothing great, nothing bad either.  A little pricey for what you get.

  8. On a cold day in April, my coworker and I decided to walk over to Komegashi to have some Japanese food.. Since there isn't many option here in JC.. Komegashi is a pretty legit place to have Japanese food.. That's why I gave 4 stars..

    Reviews on lunch special
-the ramen lunch special is pretty good.. around 12 dollars for a salad, a bowl of noodles and a side.. I can't really finish the side after the bowl of ramen.. with that.. it's obvious that I ordered one of those ramens.. I ordered miso ramen.. i am really happy with my choice because the weather outside is extremely cold.. except.. it is still on an expensive side.. I can have better in Manhattan.. sorry I am spoilt..
-the bento box has amazing deals.. sushi.. not much options.. my coworker ordered the special sushi instead and he said is not bad..

I will still return to Komegashi.. it's one of the japanese place here in JC..
